-----------------------------------

I noticed the WB is using the ER-style of promotion for this week, with the "last 5 minutes you can't miss" thing. That pretty much guarantees a letdown. :p

milkman71 11-19-03 10:29 AM

Last weeks was just an excuse to put the characters in old time clothing....very weak premise. I wish I would have just watched the last 5 minutes of the show.

milkman71 11-19-03 10:34 AM

Oops! sorry I meant 2 weeks ago I guess.

Red Dog 11-19-03 10:40 AM

Good - doesn't sound like a freak-of-the-week episode.

Yep, that definitely gets old. It's nice to see that they will be progressing the storyline some more.

kiddk1 11-19-03 07:52 PM

Awesome shot of Clark stopping the car!

Exzavier00 11-19-03 08:01 PM

how much you want to bet next episode lana will be fully healed.
Not even on crutches.

xDareDevilx 11-19-03 08:03 PM

YES! By far the best smallville episode i've ever seen (been watching since sometime last season). This felt so much like a season finale cliffhanger episode and it's only halfway through the season. I'm so glad they are finally progressing the story along and taking chances!
SPOILERS

Lex now knows of clark's powers (of course they could easily have him forget once he comes out of therapy). Lana has finally given up on Clark and realized she has to steer clear! Hopefully they don't disregard what she said at the end...this will hopefully make Clark realize maybe he can tell lana (see I dont know how this aspect will play out which is saying something for this show!)! Wow, i loved this episode

And Lex's acting was great, especially when he confronted his dad and his reaction to seeing clark's powers! And a good shot of clark getting hit by the car.!

didn't see previews for next episode...cause of thanksgiving obviously...can't wait til the following week!

How much you want to bet you are completely wrong? Dare to take the bet?

xDareDevilx 11-19-03 08:37 PM

good choice of "hurt" by cash. That song gets me every time. Very emotional!

Timber 11-19-03 08:54 PM

Ugh! 50 minutes in I was thinking finally a kick ass episode of Smallville this season. Then the part about the short term memory and the whole Lana not being around Clark thing just ruined it for me. The thing that this episode shows me is that more Lex and less Clark, Lana, and the Kents is a good thing.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one expecting to see Lana walking around like nothing happend next week.

Jonny2k1 11-19-03 09:05 PM

This the episode I have been waiting for all season. Hopefully the writers will continue this trend next show. If they "treat" Lex and make him forget everything he saw, I swear I will stop watching this show.

Red Dog 11-19-03 09:09 PM

Very good episode.

I guess I'm in the minority on this one.

I am losing faith in this show at an alarming rate. I have used my crystal ball and can tell you what happens on the next Smallville:

1. One, or possibly two, people will find out about Clark's secret.

2. Those two people will either be crazy, become crazy, die, or fall into a coma.

3. Lana will almost get killed, for the 1,234nd time since she turned 16. There will be no long-term physical or emotional damage done.

4. Lana and Clark will realize there is yet another obstacle to them being together. Pained looks of frustration will be exchanged.

5. Pete will not be shown. It is possible he is either crazy, will become crazy, dead, or in coma.

Using Cash's cover of NIN at the end was laugh-out-loud horrible. Lana being stomped by the crazy horse was bad. Julia Roberts' husband from Sleeping with the Enemy was bad.

On the plus side, MR did an OK job as Crazy Lex. Lionel was good as usual. No Lana for the first 30 minutes is something they should feature more often. And I was happy not to see a Freak of the Week.

Please don't post that I should stop watching this show, or that "it's just a TV show, it doesn't have to make sense". Smallville makes me feel more like a disappointed parent than an angry fan.

Venusian 11-19-03 09:12 PM

wow, something actually happened and the story line moved on.

i missed the few seconds after a commercial. I saw lex point hte gun at clark, cut the commercials...the next thign i saw, clark was pushing the car. anyone care to fill me in, thanks.

I think many fans will take issue with that as well if that is the case. What better way to handle this than to have Lex come out of therapy with that memory firmly intact but he cannot tell a soul about it lest he fear he be put back in the psycho ward?

Astro 11-19-03 09:20 PM

So, why bring Edge back with a totally unbelievable set of circumstances if they're just going to kill him right away? Either it makes Lex seem insane or it actually makes us, the viewer, insane for believing it since it turned out to be true. I would have preferred they keep the character away until they could have actually gotten Rutger Hauer back.

Anyway, I'm confused about the Lex being crazy thing anyway. On the one hand we're told that he's been having halucinations due to being drugged. But then there's also the staged death of his bodyguard, the surgery of Edge for Lex to witness (why is Edge having major plastic surgery in Smallville?). And Lex has also had prior episodes of dimensia (including just a few months earlier on the island he was stranded on)?

What's going on here?

you named everything that has happened all season (maybe that's your point huh?...i'm being optimistic and saying you are wrong about most of it).

What is your beef with "hurt" being used, and lana being stomped by the horse? Just curious...you didn't really explain.

Hokeyboy 11-19-03 09:37 PM

Am I the only one who thinks Pete has gradually turned into the Token Black Guy from Not Another Teen Movie? He's the only main character without a story arc, and he only shows up for 5 minutes an episode to provide some exposition.

No wait... he's Lando from the Clerks cartoon.

Shame, really.

Pete is now literally Token, the kid on South Park.

Lana being stomped by the horse was ridiculous. It just goes to show how often they've tried to kill her, they're so desperate for new dangerous situations they're resorting to having her attacked by animals. And they've shown her riding her horse about 100 times in the past, but when she finally gets hurt by one, it's getting stomped in a stable?

And using Hurt seemed silly to me, because it's such a heartfelt version of a sad song, and it was juxtaposed with a fairly ludicrous situation. I hurt myself / Today? Indeed.

Best part of the ep was Lex's reaction to finally seeing Clark use his powers. He just sort of smiled. I thought it was kind of neat.

Worst part of the ep was Lana saying she needed to steer clear of Clark because of how dangerous it was to be associated w/ him. Then they go and tell us that the effects of Lex's therapy will be complete short-term memory loss - give me a damn break.

-rolleyes- I knew some whiny, crybaby cynics would come and and find something to complain about. Go find something else to watch if you don't like Smallville.

Ridiculous criticisms.

Great episode.

I thought it was a great ep, too, until the last ten minutes when they did the same old shit. It was still a great ep overall and one of the best this season, but the ending just kind of nerved me.
