J.R. Ewing - fought in a war??

I was watching Dallas on Soap-Net last night - Bobby was confronting J.R. about the death of Julie Gray, and J.R. says, I never killed anyone in my life! Not even in the war!

Just how old is J.R. in the late 1970's? Which war did he fight in? Korean War, I gather. I remember watching Dallas: The Early Years which was set in the 1950's, and J.R. was a teenager during this time, so it must have been the Korean war. I can see him in the war - in his Major Nelson persona.

Does anyone know the birth dates of the characters of Dallas? How many years difference is there between J.R. & Bobby?

JR was born in 1939. After he graduated from the University of Texas, Jock pushed him to do a stint in the Army and he was shipped off to South Vietnam in 1960.

Bobby was born in 1952, making a 13 year difference in age.
