Wasn't too wild about this ep. The comings-and-goings over at the CIA are getting beyond ridiculous. I guess you can misuse intel, get put in prison, quit, etc. and still be welcomed back with open arms.
Syd's "Hi" line at the end was straight out of a Buffy episode.
I had no idea Mrs. Vaughn was the prostitue from Dark City. I'll have to giver her a closer look next week.
As for Vaughn, I don't think anyone would say he shouldn't have "moved on". But married within 2 years? Most people spend at least two years dating or engaged, and he mourned, met a new girl, proposed, and got married in 24 months. Then he tells Syd he's glad he did it.
"Remember that security system in Nepal?" Give me a break, what a jerk.

Maybe it's just expectations, but I liked this episode much better than the first. The fortune cookie comment was key-- it showed that the writers know "Peace" is a bit of a letdown, too. I like Dixon as the director. I liked Vaughn's spiel. I liked Sark's all-too-brief return. Even the cliche night club scenes were interesting.
I do wish we saw more of Will. And while I'm glad Lindsey is gone, the 'instant love triangle' is a bit strained.
It looked like Soderbergh directed the Mexican hostage-tradeoff-- very Traffic-like.
The more I think about it, the time lapse was done for 2 reasons only:
1) To put more mystery around Sloane
2) Even more importantly, to break up Sydney and Vaughn. Maybe JJ knew that he had to pair them up in season 2 (couldn't tease forever), but maybe he also knew that once the tease has ended, shows tend to lose a lot of steam. So, instant time lapse coma, Vaughn moves on, and voila!
I predict Sydney gets involved with the guy in the therapy group who played Mikey in Season 1 of the Sopranos.

I liked it. My favorite part was the Jack-Sloane dialogue. They're both so smug aren't they? Sark's return was also welcome although I'm really missing Lena Olin's presence. She was such a great character. This mystery surrounding the covenant is appealing to me. I knew right away the blondie was Vaughn's wifey. Hehe. Way to spill your guts there Syd. I'm kinda torn between the two actually.

I liked this ep. quite a bit more than last week's.
Syd telling off Lindsay/Lindsey really made me a fan of her character; I was not digging the pouty faced "I-lost-everything-in-two-years-poor-pitiful-me" Syd at all.
My guess for this season is that we will either get some darn good stories or they will try something incredibly dumb and gimmicky like reveal that the Syd we have been watching all season long is actually a clone and the real Syd is travelling the world dressed in black leather under the impression that she is an assassin named Elektra Natchios.
Well...maybe not all, but you know what I mean.

I don't get it. The Rambaldi storyline can't simply be over. What happened to that weapon that incinerated everyone in that church to a fine black dust?? I thought that was part of the Rambaldi device?

I don't think Rambaldi is over yet. Between Jacks message of "These things are rarely over" and the Rambaldi logo still in the opening credits, I suspect we will come back to it. I did have to agree with Jack's statement about the message the device put out being a HUGE let-down. I'm glad that the show addressed the fact that it was a let-down, as it gives me hope that they will do more with it.

Not to mention Vaughn and Syd only dated (for I don't know how long), it's not like they were engaged or married.

Perhaps in two year's time, his life might have been in danger.

) coming back was OK, but already leading mission briefings? A bit quick... but not surprising...

You're spot on on that one!

BUT, all that being said, I kind of felt for Vaughn after his speech yesterday, made him more sympathetic. I can see how he was looking for someone else so soon... although again, that makes it look even MORE llike a rebound romance...

Kind of makes me think Vaughn's the kind of guy who always has to have One True Love in his life. He was with Alice, and then he was with Sydney, and now he's with Melissa George.
I'm still waiting for the scene where it's explicitly stated that Vaughn and Jack butted heads over the possibility of Syd being alive. I think it had to have happened, and it seems like they're setting up the possibility in the story (Vaughn being the one who handled the scattering of the ashes, instead of Jack, the ongoing Vaugh/Jack tension.)
On a shallower note, I really like Sydney's new place. It's a nice, airy set. I hope we get to see more of it.

I thought it was funny that the CIA meeting was pretty much all made up of ex-SD6 people: Dixon, Marsall, Sydney, and Syd's dad. They really assimilated that group pretty well.
Sark has always given me the hot and I just looked up the actor on IMDB and discovered he was born in 1981 (ten years after me). Whoa! I feel like a dirty old woman now.

I agree with Jlbkwrm on the Vaughn issue. I was ready to sympathize with him until that speech. Granted, I'd be willing to bet money that the marriage is over by the end of the season but that's a different matter. You know Jack talked to Vaughn about Syd being alive - the comments SpyDaddy made about Vaughn in the premiere seem out of place otherwise.
Me wonder what SpyMommy and SpyDaddy had going on during those two years. From the IM conversation I think it was more than just looking for Syd.
