Alias "Succession" 10/5/03

Succession
60 mins.

Syd's search for her past leads to a jailed Sark (David Anders), but their Q&A is cut short when he becomes the ransom for a pair of abducted CIA scientists, whose kidnappers may be tied to the murder of his father. Meanwhile, Jack contacts an old friend of sorts for info on Sloane's new world-peace project; and Vaughn makes a decision about his future as an operative.

am I the only one who doesn't find Melissa George attractive in the tv spot.

Patman 10-05-03 09:02 PM

Okay, I'll go ahead and make the obvious joke:

Nice to see Sydney given head in a porn theater.

Static Cling 10-05-03 09:17 PM

Deleted some spoiler tags, because they're not spoilers anymore. But tee hee @ Patman, because it wasn't obvious to me. :)

- YAY for no more Lindsay/Lindsey. Although I wonder if he placed Mrs. Vaughn in his place as a kind of middle-finger to Syd. Oh, he probably did. Yay for less emotional outbursts from Syd this episode, too.

- So now we know that The Covenant had something to do with Syd's disappearance. And we also know that Will is in Witness Protection, which probably means a lot less Will for the near future. Although we don't know why... if it's related to the whole Syd/FakeFrancie fight, or something that happened after.

- Jack's "fortune cookie" line had me laughing out loud. That character's so great. Although he's still whipped by SpyMommy. But he uses Trillian (I think), so that's another plus for him.

Ok... who can dump me a copy of Alias to tape?

A storm came through and knocked off power about 5 times during the last 20 minutes of alias. :grunt:

I'll paypal ya your costs! (of course, I guess I could wait until season 3 comes on DVD ;))

"Hello."

Kick her ass now Syd. Just kick it now.

 It's so convenient for Vaughn's wife to work for the NSA. Now Syd can have a new mortal enemy besides Sloan since the wife will be looking into her background.

I hate waiting an entire week for a new episode. Syd was much better tonight, the less emotional/dramatic out-bursts the better, imo.

Happy to see Sark back. He rules.

kevin75 10-05-03 10:08 PM

this week was much better than last. i didn't find melissa george that hot in just the few shots we saw of her this week. jennifer garner is much better. :) how long do ya'll think it will be before we see weiss try to put the moves on syd?

Patman 10-05-03 10:10 PM

NSC, NSC, not NSA! :)

Sark looked like he lots about 20 pounds over 2 years (or 3 months).

Rogue588 10-05-03 10:24 PM

I didn't like this episode one bit.

Sure, I liked seeing Sark again. I also liked Jack's confrontation with Sloane.

But...Will in witness protection? -ohbfrank-

Vaughn's wife? :yack: [people find her attractive..?]

Vaughn's spiel to Syd about moving on -rolleyes- You're still a ***** Mr. Vaughn.

I don't mind not having all the answers about the two year gap, and i'm even willing to suspend disbelief for this show...but I have issues with Jack being in prison for so long and then instantly being reintegrated into the CIA..

Oh, and regarding Syd's emotional outbursts -- I would trade ANY one of her past outbursts for tonite's totally laughable outburst at Mr. Torturer..

Patman 10-05-03 11:10 PM

Have you not seen Melissa George in Dark City? :)

MrX 10-05-03 11:14 PM

meh

The Jack and Sloane part was the only good thing about the episode I thought.

Hokeyboy 10-05-03 11:39 PM

Melissa George sure does have a purty mouth.

I thought she looked just lovely. I don't get where all this hostility comes from...

Jlbkwrm 10-05-03 11:59 PM

I'm disappointed to see Vaughn back so quickly, since I think he's boring and irritating, but I loved getting to see Jack just completely ignore him.

Will in witness protection works for me; I'd rather have him around, but it's a decent reason why he wouldn't show up right away to see Sydney.

This season is feeling more and more remiscent of season one. We have yet another situation where Jack and Sydney have to have secret meetings to discuss things the agency they work for can't know about, and where they're both doing their agency work for their own ulterior motives.

freedexter 10-05-03 11:59 PM

Melissa George is ok. I'm still bitter over the cancelation of "Thieves", but then again, I really liked that show.

Future episode speculation and gossip:

Spoiler:
Syd and Vaguhn's wife will eventually get along and work together.

Lena Olin won't be returning at all this season because of scheduling.

Anyhow, it was a good episode. Decapitated head kind of turned me off (second one this weekend. ew.), but at least there were no gory scenes, like another finger amputation. I'm finding myself more easily queasy lately.

What's up with all the Vaughn hate? Doesn't anyone believe that he was justified in moving on after two years, after they found remains that DNA-matched to Syd? Based off of the info that he had, I don't think could have been expected to do anything else. But then again, SpyDaddy (and now Sloane, apparently) found some stuff about her disappearance, so maybe he wasn't looking in the right places?

I don't mind not having all the answers about the two year gap, and i'm even willing to suspend disbelief for this show...but I have issues with Jack being in prison for so long and then instantly being reintegrated into the CIA.
This I'll agree with. In prison one week, giving mission briefings the next? I guess he did some reading in his spare time.

Chalk me up in the "Syd is way hotter than Mrs. Vaughn" column.

Oh, and I thought the scene in the desert was pretty cool. Something about Sark (welcome back, soldier!) and CIA-dude both hitting the deck when everyone started firing was pretty cool looking, for whatever reason. Although WHY THE HECK DID YOU GUYS STOP MOVING TOWARDS YOUR SIDES? If I were Mr. CIA, I think I would've bolted towards my buddies.

fujishig 10-06-03 12:42 AM

I was wondering where I saw Melissa George before... never did watch Thieves, and I don't remember her from Dark City or from Friends... but she was the lead valkyrie in last week's premiere episode of Charmed (my wife's season pass, not mine, promise!) Weird.

Sark was great. Especially because he had the line where he said it didn't matter anyway, since he'd be free in a little while. I was worried that they'd have neutered his character and made him a good guy.

Too bad Lena Olin apparently isn't going to be on any of the episodes. I was a little disappointed with the internet chat. Though I believe they're still filming this season's episodes... is she for sure not going to be in any of them?

hahn 10-06-03 02:45 AM

I had a discussion about Alias with a friend yesterday. I'm a bit confused though. He swears that in one of the 2 previous episodes, they revealed that Sydney is missing an organ, and thus, the reason for the scar. The conclusion being that if she's missing an organ, that could've been used it to plant sufficient amounts of DNA for the CIA to find. I don't remember that AT ALL. Does anyone else recall that piece of info??

Static Cling 10-06-03 05:36 AM

They would've had to reveal the "missing organ" thing in either this episode or the last, and I don't recall them doing it in either.

[B] if true, then a big :( for me.

Rypro 525 10-06-03 09:06 AM

Just a reminder, Melissa George is the one who gets naked briefly in dark city about 15-20 min in to the flick.

when did they say that Will was witness protection

Syd rattled it off nonchalantly when talking about moving.

das

Jeremy517 10-06-03 09:40 AM

Did anyone come up with a reason that Will would be in the witness protection program? Nothing we've seen would give him reason to be.
