Survivor 7: 10/02/03

Ok, here we go:

Spoiler:
Wow. Morgan is the worst Survivor tribe ever. I seriously think they have a chance to go without a win into the merger. That is if the rules don't get tweeked to help them out (e.g. player swap).

Quick recap:

Rewards
Two, three player teams try to sink the other team's two boats. Morgan doesn't even come close to winning. Drake gets bedding, the second map piece, and loots Morgans large water pot.

Immunity
Teams hold the lightest team-mate dangling from a rope above the water, with the strongest team members at the end of the rope. Every 5 minutes, a team member is pulled from the rope until there is only Rupert for Drake, and Osten for Morgan remaining. In a two hour battle of strength and endurance, Rupert (the MAN!) outlasts Osten.

Tribal Council
Lil is the 3rd Survivor voted off the island, due in part to her losing the last fishing hook, perceived unimportance, and, of course, "strategy."

Fun episode.

Its odd... I get so much enjoyment watching Morgan lose challenge after challenge. Its too bad the show seemed to focus so much on Morgan this week though. Did they even show Drake enjoying the blankets and pillows? I guess they weren't too cold to begin with.

Osten doesn't appear to have pneumonia yet. I think maybe his tribe letting him know he was the strongest there for the challenge made him feel better.

Too bad skinny Ryan is gone.. Morgan could have blamed him for losing both of their challenges today.

Rupert has proven that he rocks once again. Next week's Drake developments look interesting....

vote was a screw job. the other chick was obviously left because the guys needed something to look at. other then that she is worthless to the team. doesn't know how to build a fire and hasn't done anything on camera to help the tribe. with her on the team there really is nothing they will be able to win at unless drake gives up the win so they could vote off jon or the other worthless guy on the tribe there.

Rupert rocks. First episode he was the best, second aswell. this guy HAS to make it to the final 4 at the very least. he just rocks.

Who needs to know how to build a fire? Don't they have matches or a lighter?

Lill lost the hook, couldn't catch one fish, and I guess they figured she wasn't much use in the challenges.

Too bad, indeed. I made note of this last season, but these early episodes are really poorly edited in my opinion. It seemed pretty evident who was getting voted off by what was shown during the episode. I guess that is the nature of the show with so many people still in play, but it is still frustrating.

Warning, possible spoiler for next week's episode:

Spoiler:
Did anyone look at the CBS site?

On the Next Survivor: Pearl Islands
+ Andrew and Ryan go in search of a good fishing spot, but instead they find themselves in a dangerous situation: lost in the jungle without water.
+ One tribe recovers a buried treasure. But will it have been worth the search?
+ The Immunity Challenge shocks the tribes with an unexpected reward.
+ Lubricated by whiskey, one Survivor creates a spectacle at a Tribal Council that is not to be missed.
Gee, what team likely finds the treasure? Not that it is surprising, but nice spoiler CBS.

Next week sounds sweet. So I guess if someone finds the buried treasure can the other team take it? Probably just one item from it, right?

Didn't Lill say they started with three or four hooks? So somebody else lost the first two or three?

I don't think either of those two are particularly useful in challenges (I definitely think Lill would have toughed it out in the dangling challenge--she doesn't seem they type to give up), but it seemed like Lill was definitely more useful around camp--Especially if Morgan loses the next RC, and Drake takes their matches.

With Lill gone, there's absolutely nobody on Morgan I want to see make the merge, so I wouldn't mind a Flawless Victory by Drake. Osten and Andrew just need to stop talking entirely, and Tijuana continues to eerily resemble Heidi.

From those spoilers:
Spoiler:
It sounds like Drake is going to be the tribe at the Tribal Council, since I doubt Morgan's going to get any whiskey.

Unless Morgan wins the RC, finds their chest with one map piece, and liquored-up Andrew gets voted out. I wish.

Sounds like next week might be bye-bye Jon.

I loved Rupert's comments for next week about the tribe member who wants to lose a challenge on purpose:

Something to the effect of "If we were real pirates, he'd be killed as a traitor!"

Let's get real, if I had to choose between Derrah and Lilli, it would have to be Darrah simply for youthful athleticism over the campgrounds keeper. This is a game, and you advance by winning competitions, or getting others booted before you. Lilli had no guile, and was deluding herself if she thought she was really "indispensable" in camp life. Now if Morgan loses again in the immunity challenge, the relationships that Tijuana forges among her tribemates will be why she stays and Darrah goes.

Now Rupert may be burly strong, and determined, I doubt he's really fast (which could be a factor in other challenges), and he wears too much of his emotions on his sleeve.

Now Sandra, that woman gives as good as she gets, but that isn't going to endear you to your tribemates either.

I was just thinking last night how this season doesn't come close to the last one. Of course, I thought the last one ranks up in the top 3. Maybe I'll like it better as it goes on. The challenges certainly are a.... challenge.

Darrah opened her mouth and .... damn!!! What the hell was that. She is the most redneck sounding girl I have ever heard.

I'm glad Rupert stopped pulling his "my spear" shit he had done the last couple episodes. It was wearing thin.

Maybe I'm the only one who perceives Lil as a bumbling fool. My wife and stepson are all "they'll keep her cause she's like the mom of the tribe". But her "troop....errrrr tribe" slips were annoying. I was waiting for her to say it again at tribal council last nite.

But what does a mom do? She can't do the dishes, cause they have no food! She doesn't make the beds (what beds?).

They were supposed to sack up, organize, figure out what they need, and start taking care of business. Instead we got video of Lil moping around like a 5 year old who got tv taken away.

To me, they now have what could be a strong core of a team, assuming Darrah (I'd hit it, accent and all) can pull her weight. Like JackSkeleton said, we haven't seen her do much on camera. But we aren't seeing everything, now are we?

I don't see what Lill did that was so great- they just showed her sitting around praying or complaining and then refusing to wait for someone to wake up to go fishing (and then lost the hook and caught nothing). They probably have a better shot of keeping Darrah in line with whatever they want to do and she doesn't seem to talk too much.

I thought the immunity challenge was lame. I think both Osten and Rupert did an amazing job, but there didn't seem to be any point to having the rest of the team there (other than the girls who were hanging).

At this point I think I would really like to watch Morgan keep losing.

I thought about that, and think alcohol might be involved in the immunity challenge for both tribes:

Of course, you could well be correct.

I knew Lill would go - the editing had my wife fooled into thinking it would be Darrah.

For some reason last night I noticed for the first time that Drake had plates. That cracked me up for some reason, probably since Morgan has jack****.

Bye Jon!

Last night proved a theory of mine. No matter how much you can bench or squat, no matter how "buff" you are, you just can't beat plain old mountain man size and power. I would've bet every cent I have on Rupert in that match. Not only is he stronger, he's far more determined. He is among my favorite Survivors of all-time.

Yep . After it went to just Osten and Rupert, I could tell right away that Rupert was going to easily win.

I wonder if the producers thought this would be a sure win for Morgan and moved the challenge up to this episode, or if it was always scheduled for the third episode...

I feel pretty certain that all challenges are scheduled ahead of time, and that a third party like an accounting firm or something certifies it. THis is ultimately a game show, and if the producers could switch things around hat easily to favor one team over the other, or one contestant over the others, then they could be held liable somehow.

Besides, what would they stand to gain? They can get all the melo-drama they need just by editing things differently.
