looking back on the season finale thread, many thought the big surprise people will be talking about all summer was that sloane was going to turn out to be syd's real father.

Yeah, they've been hinting at that since back at the beginning of Season 1. Whenever Slone gets all 'mushy' w/Syd, he says "You know, I've always thought of you as my own daughter.'

At some point, you've got to figure that they'll pull the trigger on that particular plotline. Maybe for an end-of-Season 3 cliffhanger? (assuming that the ratings actually pick up and we see as Season 4).

I really wanted Jack to keep the Grizzly Jack look.

My thought was that they didn't know what the target looked like. So, shoot everybody within easy range, knowing your target will eventually reveal himself by firing upon you.

A very disappointing episode. It's as if Abrams wanted to wrap up the series last year (and probably could have with a 2 hour episode), and instead of building something new they use this lame-o time jump device. Too many questions were left unanswered. Weiss has no credibility as a field agent. It would take Sloane more than 2 years to rehabilitate his image to that extent.

I like twists, and certainly hope the payoffs will be good in season 3. But right now I feel like I'm watching bad wrestling booking instead of well-written TV.

Can't wait for the episode where Syd get's ticked and sets Vaughn on fire.

We are assuming. Although it's been discussed to death, especially at TWOP, so I think I'd be disappointed if that turned out to be the big season finale shocker or whatever.

According to J.J. in a recent radio interview I heard - he said that all the above actors couldn't commit to a full season because of sceduling difficulties - but they will appear in a few episodes here and there.

Sark was in the credits, so I assume he's going to be fairly regular.

Why not? Just because we usually just see Syd & Vaughn doing stuff doesn't mean that Weiss can't kick a little ass once in a while. I thought he looked great as SWATWeiss.

I agree. Plus, it had been almost two years. There is no reason he couldn't have gone through the necessary training to switch positions.

Great season opener. Remember the main lure of Alias is keeping the viewer confused and dangling lots of unanswered questions over his head.

I'm sure that there is way more to the Rambaldi device than what Sloane said. I'm sure we having seen the last of the cloning machine either.

He may have already been trained. We saw Vaughn in the office and in the field.

I do have one question though. Why in the world did Syd use that Men In Black type gun to shoot the car. That thing blew up like the Godfather. If she was after this information how could she assume the dude would jump out?

They used the gun because it would look cool. My guess is that anybody's natural reaction to seeing a gun would be to get the hell out of the way hence assuming the dude jumping ship wouldn't be such a leap of faith. I don't remember if she delayed shooting until after he had bailed.

Has anybody else noticed that the last few episodes (counting back to last season of course) has Syd killing a lot more people than she did in the first season? She killed like one person the entire first season then after the family mission in S2 she's racked up quite the body count.

I know the show is held in pretty high regard and my let down wasn't due to the details of the plot/characters (as if everything was neat and tidy that would have lost my interest more so) but more to I didn't think the writing was very good in this episode (mainly character wise and dialogue). I will give it a couple more episodes atleast but hope that aspect of it gets better to me as other than Garner it didn't really impress me.

Of course, with tv familiarity breeds acceptance with these type of shows, ones with ongoing storylines, so the story might take a few watchings before I can decide if it is for me. I was thinking the show had both the enjoyable ongoing story and exceptional writing and I didn't get that from this one episode. May take me more than one to appreciate it fully which with the feedback about it I am more than willing to give.

As much as Garner brings and puts into the show, based on this episode, I hope she doesn't burn out over time. That is a lot of emotion to bring to the surface to be able to let go of easily when the cameras stop.

Actually, Weiss was a field agent in previous seasons, albeit usually in a supporting role. I just think he's a bit too cheery (and maybe a bit too doughy) to really pull off the action work he has to do. Nice that the first mission we see him on, his entire team gets whacked!

I forgot my biggest gripe-- the addition of the Lindsey character, played by the guy who always plays the guy who acts like a Lindsey-type guy.

CBS was in second for the hour with the first hour of the Tom Selleck original film "12 Mile Road" (the movie averaged a 10.3/16 across its two hours) .The season premiere of "Alias" earned a 5.9/9 on ABC, beating the 4.5/7 for the final hour of "Mary" on FOX. The WB put up a good fight with the 4.0/6 for the second hour of "Charmed."



Those are still some pretty mediocre numbers, very similar to last season. And there's a good chance that Alias could start placing 4th in its timeslot once FOX starts up its regular Sunday lineup. Damn, I have no clue what ABC has to do to get people to watch this show...

Why did Sydney need a Ferrarri intercept the bad guy and his cohorts? She parked it out of sight while she stood in the road, so it's not like having a super car made all the difference. Did Alias' contract with Ford run out or something?

Anyway, the numbers aren't lower than usual. My point was that they haven't gone up at all. There's no way that ABC will be able to keep this show on the air long-term if it is going to always place 3rd or 4th in its timeslot. Frankly, I'm surprised that they've kept it on this long.

I think Rypro meant the people who have only seen Season 1 on DVD and are waiting on Season 2. And those that didn't like the Reboot and aren't watching anymore.

Oh, give the guy a break... he did lose weight, as the writers took pains to point out. You don't have to be Mr. Glum to be an operator, either. And it wasn't his fault that his team got ambushed. If Syd wasn't there and Weiss had died, I bet you'd feel pretty bad about talking all this smack about Weiss... huh? HUH?

I don't know why I'm being Weiss' apologist in this thread.
