At least Carter was trying to salvage the relationship.. instead Abby pulls out a cigarette, tells him to get the hell out in so many words.. talk about cold.
Frank is becoming more a caricature of a person, anyone who talked like that at a public hospital would be fired in 5 mins or less.

Is it me or did I see a huge flub in this episode. The new girl is seen taking blood from the old woman on her left arm. Now moments later, the old woman bleeds out! And the camera shows the blood flowing from the woman's right arm??? Blood all over the floor to the right side. What the heck?

By the way, would Carter be able to get through customs with all that medication?
Honk!

I'm looking forward to them going back to Africa if it is handled as well as the finale.

As long as they keep Abby's family out of the storylines, I'm a happy camper.

Abby is the new Mark Green, only difference is she does not sport the beard to tell us she is in the "evil mode."

I find the Abby/Carter relationship very realistic. Its exactly how many relationships go. That doesn't mean I like to spend 12 shows on it. I wish they would have more episodes where they have about 5 storylines and we follow all of them.

But if he is on a medical mission with all that medication I'm sure that he would be let in. His medication might be confiscated (read stolen) but I don't think they wouldn't let him in.

The most unrealistic thing about the whole show is that Carter still cares about that Sucubus at all.

I'm still waiting for the ER/Grounded For Life cross-network/cross-over.

I haven't watched the show with any regularity in quite awhile but caught the season finale last week and then the premiere. Thought the finale was terrific and stayed away from the things I didn't like about ER when I did watch and felt that continued with this episode. There was just the one typical ER situation right around the half way mark when the music kicks in and I started to tune out but it wasn't anywhere what I was used to.

Was anybody else screaming at the TV "Run away Carter! Run away while you have the chance!" in regards to Abby? Hmmm, maybe thats why he went back to Africa in such a hurry?
I like how Carter is the one running off to try and save his friends life but Abby is the one complaining about how she 'can't do this anymore!'. Do the writers really expect us to sympathise with her?
They seriously need to overhaul her character. She needs to go back to med school or something. She has no purpose.

Agreed. I usually hate the 'road-trip' episodes, but the Africa one last year was really well done.

I'm going to be pissed if Kovac is dead. I know a lot of people don't like his dark, depressing storyline, but I think his character is one of the best on the show, even though his character has what seems to be a deathwish.
Spoiler:
I love Abby, too, but her family sub-plot shouldn't be touched w/ a ten foot pole ever again.

after the comments here last season, i'm surprised there's some positivity regarding a return trip to Africa..
then again, some of those posters haven't commented here..perhaps they've given up on the show..?

MMMMmmmmmmmm
Suuuuuuucubussssss....I like Gallant's goatee. Makes him look 12+
I hope that he hardens up a bit (especially after his eventful traffic stop w/ Casanova Pratt last year.)

Well U never know if the clips they showed with LUCA for next week episode might be flashback scenes showing how he died.

Myself, I don't watch the show regularly and probably have only caught a few episodes per season over the last couple cause I was bored with the rut I felt with the show. To me most every show I saw was the exact same thing with a few moments of advancing the characters in their storyline. It was a few procedures when the music kicks in, good acting, quick moving, with those moments scattered here and there. That was the reason I tired of watching the show awhile ago.
Every week the commercials had to hype up a unique accident or one of the character moments to make it seem like something new was always going on. Perhaps that is way the Maura Tierney character doesn't bother me since I haven't seen it and it sounds like her character has been pretty one note for awhile. Me, I just see her good acting and general appeal.
The reason I liked the finale, and the premiere to slightly less degree, is because it wasn't that type of show. I found it to be much more minimalistic and character driven unlike what I used to get from the typical episode. Perhaps those that didn't like these last two, not sure how many they have done like these as I only saw the last two, are those that liked the show more when it didn't break away from what it made its reputation in?
I mentioned in my earlier post that there was one scene right around the half way mark of the premiere when they started to work on a patient and the ER music kicks in full force and I started thinking that it was going back into its formula. That scene was pretty quick and the drama equivalent of the laugh track stayed away other than that, same with the finale IIRC.
I am sure they will be back to its formula soon enough, probably after next weeks return to Africa, but until then I am enjoying what I find a refreshing change. After that I will probably stop watching regularly. I did like the new female doctor addition.
