You mean the other crap you were watching. In all seriousness, I would suggest that your perspective is altered by not being exposed to so much other quality. The more quality you see the less interested you become in the average or below average. After a season or two of Babylon 5 or Farscape, and it's hard to imagine how anyone could be enthusiastic over such drastically inferior programming.

das - Gotta agree with you there. And that's why I stopped watching Voyager and Enterprise and why I will not return to Enterprise. I'd rather watch Buffy reruns than the crap they're passing off as Trek.

The overall story in DS9 was great, but the characters (with the exception of
Spoiler:
Sisko
were pretty much the same at the end as they were when the show started.
While I don't disagree with you and elektra's statements (a good example would be the O'Brien episode "Hard Time" which should have effected the character of O'Brian a LOT more) I think it's unfair to say no others changed. Watch Bashir or Kira in the first season. Heck, watch Odo or Quark. I'd say Dax changed a lot too

Biz -yea, there were some changes (thank you Ron Moore), but like you noticed, the ball was dropped a number of times. Unless B & B are will to pull a JMS and stand up to the studio for what is right and then actually doing what is right, Trek will continue to be mediocore (sp?) at best and suck much of the time.

Shatner was on Stern yesterday and Howard asked Shatner

"How about Star Trek, anymore Star Trek left in you?"

"No, It's dead."

B&B are to JMS what P&J on stale bread is to prime rib.

I think the best thing that could happen to the Trek franchise is for Paramount to sell it. I've been told CBS is interested, but it's a cash cow Paramount will cling to until the last drop of change is sucked out of it.

I've read some of the concepts for Starfleet Academy which will be the next Trek show after Enterprise. It's a good concept, but Paramount will screw with it and ruin it like they did Enterprise.

I agree with Shatner's concept of a new Star Trek. The futuristic looking bridge looks like my local police communications room, and I would love to see someone come up with a concept to bring Star Trek into a real future without sparks coming from the ceiling and the shields collapsing all the time (something like the end of A.I.). But that would take MONEY, and Paramount isn't going to invest a lot of money into anything on their failing network.

Sparks coming from the ceiling and the shields collapsing all the time is what Trek is all about, n’est ce pas?

No, no, no.

Trek is all about green-skinned alien nymphomaniacs writhing to bongo drums, the double-fist knockout punch to the middle of the back, the Vulcan eyebrow arch, 3 foot high bouffant hairdos, bouncing rubble and strategically placed uniform tears in the middle of mano-e-mano combat exposing just the barest hint of the captain's shiny, pink, unnaturally bulbous man-pecs.

Get it straight already, will ya?

Well, when you put it that way, there isn't anything straight about it.

Naw. They don’t do the Wild Thang any more.

Picard would think the Wild Thang was undignified.

Sisco didn’t do the Wild Thang much. (I think Cassidy was gay.) [Seinfeld quote]

Janeway NEVER did the Wild Thang.

And Archer hasn’t got a Thang to be Wild with.

I'm straight and that still got me a bit flushed.

Picard was "smoov" enough to do the "wild thang" off-camera. Unlike - say - that space-ho Geordi who'd shag anything with a positronic matrix and a set of metal knockers.

Sisko didn't need the "wild thang." The exquisite wisdom of the Prophets brought him off more times than we could possibly imagine. Remember, divine sex is the best sex.

Au contraire mon frere. Janeway was pinballing back and forth between the saphic pleasures of her busty borg-ette and the hot-cha-cha-cha rain dance of her forlorn, ever-pitiable tattooed first maquis-mate.

Ah. But Tripp . . . Tripp can't keep his denim jumpsuit zipped for even 10 minutes. That boy's spreading his home-spun seed all over that there "uny-verse." We'll soon see little pint-sized Tripps crawling up and down the corridors of the Enterprise, bumpy-headed foreheads on one and all.

Of course, nobody got the "puss" that Kirk did.

That's why he's "THE Kirk." Never to be equalled.

I think Shatner could do it. At least with Shatner at the helm, you knew that if an alien didn't speak English, it was toast.
