What '80s cartoon would you love to make a comeback?

For me it would be

Rediscovered by a band of brave star searchers,
together they form a super robot. Fighting the dark forces of evil, VOLTRON is

I loved watching these as a kid; saturday mornings were the best. ;)

BizRodian 08-09-03 11:16 PM

Didn't they make a new Voltron a couple years ago?

kvrdave 08-09-03 11:34 PM

Most that I enjoyed I have gotten to see again with Boomerang and have decided they did actually suck. However, Dungeons & Dragons was still a lot of fun to watch. :)

einTier 08-10-03 12:37 AM

Oops that second picture looked like (but isn't) a Gatchaman picture, which became G-Force and Battle of the Planets in the US. That's the one I'd most like to see make a comeback.

You know it's good when a eight year old boy wakes up at 5 am every morning to see it.

Did they? I must have missed; of course I wasn't in reminiscence mode back then. ;)

Tom Banjo 08-10-03 03:26 AM

I'm actually suprised that G.I. Joe hasn't made a comeback yet.
I'd also like to see D&D return, as long as there was no connection to the movie.
Ooh, and Thundercats!

Rogue588 08-10-03 03:53 AM

None.

Please leave the 80s cartoons alone.

If you MUST cash in, release more of 'em on DVD.

Thank you.

groovrbaby 08-10-03 04:31 AM

Yeah, THUNDERCATS! I remember watching this as a kid, but I can hardly remember any thing about it. Wasn't there also a cartoon called S.W.A.T. Cats? Biker Mice from Mars and Double Dragon were from 1993...which in my opinion in terms of style and fashion is still the 80's. That's about all I would want.

victant 08-10-03 04:38 AM

I rather enjoyed Mysterious Cities of Gold. It had a lot of adventure and really kept me coming back for more (even though it aired at something like 6 am, which is asking for a lot from a 10 year old). ;)

huzefa 08-10-03 10:07 AM

Well, Voltron would be on at around 7am where I was (Saudi Arabia); so the night before I'd just creep into the living room and sleep on the floor. I was a smart kid. :)

I always thought that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a rip-off of Voltron.

Gatchaman pretty much set the architype for all japanese sci-fi cartoons/sentai programming. The heroic leader, the brash second on command, the resourceful chick (in love with the oblivious leader), the kind hearted fat guy, and the plucky kid.

They did and it was the only one I have seen hold true to the original. It was on Fox for a while.

Geofferson 08-10-03 01:56 PM

Voltron
Heathcliff
The Ghostbusters (and The New Ghostbusters)
James Bond Jr.
Thundercats
The Smurfs

Me too; I wanted to tell people that but I was afraid they would gang up on me.

M.A.S.K. (Mobile Assault Strike Kommand)

I wouldn't mind a remake since it was such a short lived series. Of the original 65 episodes, just over half made in onto VHS ...put them on DVD already!

Voltron too!

That was a good one.

I'd really like to be able to track down copies of Belle and Sebastian. I remember enjoying that show, but I haven't seen it in a very long time.

I thought that MMPR had been on for a long time (like since the 70s?) in Japan...

According to a news item I posted here , Gatchaman/BOTP will be making a comeback. They're working on redubbing the original Gatchaman for release this fall.

Captain Harlock 08-10-03 11:53 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing an updated version G.I. Joe. Using the new He Man animation on Cartoon Network. This time they could do it a little edgier. If you watch the old G.I. Joe's they are like a 30 minute infomercial for the toys. The best ones are still the two mini-series.

And no I don't mean like G.I. Joe Extreme. I know how bad that was.

Spiderman and His Amazing Friends

dalbowski 08-11-03 01:32 AM

Yeah, there was a CGI Voltron series released a few years ago. Only saw a few episodes, all I remember was that Zarkon was a good guy and his son was the bad guy now.

No, Zarkon was still bad. He was faking remorse while supplying his son (voiced by Tim Curry, if I recall correctly) with weapons and intel.

Oh and I want (in no particular order) the following on DVD and/or wouldn't mind new shows that keep the spirit of the orignals:

Transformers (with a new show based on Gen 1 and with all the surviving voice actors from the original show)
Thundercats
Voltron
He-Man and The Masters of the Universe (already has a new show but I want both on DVD plus any/all unaired episodes of the original) But, please, keep the second He-Man animated series (you know the one I mean) dead and buried.
G.I. Joe
M.A.S.K.
A retooled Visionaries
GEM (don't laugh)
Gatchaman
Heathcliff
The Ghostbusters and The New Ghostbusters
The Smurfs

There are others, I'm sure, but I can't remember. :(

Oh and, last I heard, Saban had bought the rights to Voltron and simply modeled the Power Rangers after it.

Oh and Voltron was really two old (separate) Japanese series that were run back-to-back in the US and dubbed and re-named Voltron for US syndication purposes.

1998Nole 08-11-03 08:04 AM

I would love to see Star Blazers. It had a great theme song. This show was one of my favorites when I was growing up.

M.A.S.K. was pretty good too, I still have quite a few of the toys in a box somewhere.
