Oh and I want (in no particular order) the following on DVD and/or wouldn't mind new shows that keep the spirit of the orignals:

Transformers (with a new show based on Gen 1 and with all the surviving voice actors from the original show)
Thundercats
Voltron
He-Man and The Masters of the Universe (already has a new show but I want both on DVD plus any/all unaired episodes of the original) But, please, keep the second He-Man animated series (you know the one I mean) dead and buried.
G.I. Joe
M.A.S.K.
A retooled Visionaries
GEM (don't laugh)
Gatchaman
Heathcliff
The Ghostbusters and The New Ghostbusters
The Smurfs

There are others, I'm sure, but I can't remember. :(

Oh and, last I heard, Saban had bought the rights to Voltron and simply modeled the Power Rangers after it.

Oh and Voltron was really two old (separate) Japanese series that were run back-to-back in the US and dubbed and re-named Voltron for US syndication purposes.

I'd like to add The Snorks, Silverhawks and Bravestar to my wishlist.

How about Mighty Orbots
that was a great show...

I remember an animated series based on the books about The Littles I would love to see that show again.

And no I don't mean like G.I. Joe Extreme. I know how bad that was.

FYI, GI Joe Spy Troops movie coming to Cartoon Network on Sept. 27th at 10pm.

I have no other details.

Wasn't that the 70's? If we get to count those, then I vote for Speed Buggy.

I'm almost embarrassed...

The Mr. T cartoon (with him and the gymnasts) and Kidd Video

Bcolon 08-17-03 10:27 PM

How about Robotech? This is my all-time favorite cartoon. Supposedly they are working on a Robotech 2004 that is going to be a continuation of the origional series.

I know many of you are Macross purists, but I prefer Robotech.

If anybody's really interested in an update of some of the 80s cartoons, go to your local comic shop. For the past year or 2, one of the biggest things in comics have been updates of 80s cartoons.

It started with Transformers. An artist who makes his art look like it came straight out of an anime movie drew the first miniseries and it outsold every other comic that year. Since then, all the major properties have come back including: GI-Joe, He-Man, Thundercats, Battle of The Planets, and Voltron.

There's actually 2 GI-Joe vs. Transformer miniseries coming out. One of my favorite artists is drawing one of them and that series is going to be the first of these nostalgia comics that I buy. In addition to amazing art, it's got a cool setting (WWII) and a decent writer.

'The Real Ghostbusters'

Morf 08-19-03 07:50 AM

Tigersharks
Street Frogs

Anyone remember these?

sho kosugi 08-19-03 04:21 PM

Around 84 I saw a dubbed anime movie with a giant robot that was called dynamo. I've never been able to find info on it. So I'd like to see that make a comeback so I could find what the heck it was.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a few episodes of Tranzor Z or the Gobots again.

Nope...

Power Rangers is dubbed from Super Sentai and it has been running since 1975 in Japan, before Voltron came along. The first Sentai series to become Americanized (aka Mighty Morphing Power Rangers) was Zyuranger (1992), but Sentai still beats out Voltron! So sorry folks, Voltron not so original after all eh? :)

As for 80s cartoons I want back...
Well really only He-Man and She-Ra. So come on Mattel, add the hot twin sister.

Okay I must admit I just stumbled on this thread, after reading through everyones' ideas I would like to throw my $1.25 into the ring. In no particular order:

Snorks
Cops
MASK
Voltron (both the lions and spacecraft episodes)
Robotech
He-Man
Transformers
Go Bots
Thundercats
Heathcliff
Fat Albert
GI Joe

oh hell the entire USA Cartoon Express, you all know what I mean if you were in the US in the 80s.

Spooky 08-20-03 12:47 PM

The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show...

"Overture, curtains, lights...this is it, we'll hit the heights. Who knows what heights we'll hit? On with the show, this is it!"

Which Super Sentai had Spider-man? I couldn't find him on the website. So what is considered the first Japanese show, either animated or live action, that has a 5 member team forming a big machine? Gatchaman?

Not sure on the Spider-Man issue.

Gatchaman was 1972 I think... and I do believe it was the first to have the team forming a big machine.

iggystar 08-21-03 11:59 AM

These have been mentioned with some type of excuse or disclaimer. Don't be ashamed!

GEM
Mr. T
Snorks

I also liked, Strawberry Shortcake and the Inhumanoids.

Draven 08-21-03 01:42 PM

Man, I forgot all about Bravestarr...Thirty-Thirty kicked ass.

I think I remember the themesong:

"Bravestar...BRAVESTAR!"
"Eyes of the hawk, ears of the wolf."
"Bravestar...BRAVESTAR!"
"Strength of the bear, speed of the PUMA!"

Shoot me now.

GEM

If you are talking about the cartoon about the singer, it is actually "Jem". Rhino is going to be releasing the first five episodes (the Jem origin movie) on DVD to test the market... I dont think a release date has been set yet.

movieking 08-21-03 06:55 PM

I totally forgot about MASK. I would love to see that again. I would also like to see the following make a comeback:

The Smurfs
Captain Caveman (and Son!)

Maybe even GEM...I think that I got into watching that when I went to my girlfriends house after school when she was babysitting...

SunMonkey 08-21-03 11:13 PM

Quite a few of those listed above, and I'll add Danger Mouse.

At least I remember enjoying it when I was younger.
