I have to go with the final episode of Once and Again.
You could kind of tell during the episode that the cast was very emotional, but it was still done very well.
After the episode ends, the cast is on screen chatting, talking about the show and really look like they are having a good time and are very sad to see the show go.
Its not emotional in the sense of some things people posted, but that episode got to me because I really enjoyed the show and was sad to see it go.
I also have to mention the episode in ER, I forget which season though.
Carted walks into the room/bathroom to find a med student lying on the floor only to be stabbed himself. In subsequent episodes, you can see his character still dealing with the fact that he watched a med student lying bleeding before his eyes because he couldn't call out for help.

When I first saw this thread, this is what I immediately thought of.
This is the only filmed media (Television shows/movies/etc) that I have ever been brought to tears by. It was really amazing, as were a lot of the other ST DS9 episodes.
I have actually been checking every night to see if it is airing again so I can record it. When (*if*) I get a job after I graduate from college in two weeks, I intend on purchasing the DVD Season sets.

A moment in a recent episode of Everybody Loves Raymond was quite emotional. Marie was all mad cause she found Ray's journal from when he was a kid and one entry said "I hate my mom". Debra told Marie to just get over it. Then Marie had a whole speech about how would Debra like it if all her life she takes care of Jeffrey and does whatever she can for him and give him all the love he needs. He would be the center of her life and then one day she would find his journal and it says "i hate my mom." It was so sad.

Oh yeah, this reminds me. Not too many people remember this episode, let alone no one ever talks about the show, but the one where Edith dies on "Archie Bunker's Place". And Gloria comes back for the funeral. Everyone is worried about Archie's behavior. Almost no reaction. Until he comes across Edith's house slipper after he's cleared most of her stuff. He's all alone when he found it. He picked it up and started sobbing. And it was real. Then that little girl (Stephanie?) comes in to comfort him. I tell you, that one is a heart breaker. First time I ever saw my dad cry watching TV.

i'm gonna bump the thread for another buffy moment thats not mentioned in the thread yet (and since i've just gotten into the show and finished 3 seasons in about a month and a half)
in graduation day pt 2, also mentioned already, but the ending of the season 2 finale.
It might take a tad getting used to them not at sunnydale high for season 4 and beyond.

Among the other responses:
I can heartily agree with both M.A.S.H. episodes (Henry Blake death and final episode)
Quantum Leap "The Leap Back".
There have been too many on E.R. so I don't even watch it anymore. I can't take that much depression.
Threads was pretty tough. Have to agree there.
I didn't see the Gilda episode on It's Garry Shandling's Show, but I'll have to track it down. That one's gotta be another tough one.
I'm going through My So Called Life DVD series now, so I'll see the My So Called Christmas episode soon. I can't remember it from the first time through. I also can't remember the finale. Lot's to look forward to.
Glad you bumped this thread, Rypro. I hadn't seen it before. A lot of great moments were mentioned here.

Damn you guys for taking all of my Top 5 already:
24 - Jack saying goodbye to Kim.
B5 - Severed Dreams, The Fall of Centauri Prime, and Sleeping In Light
QL - Sam's final leap to set things right by telling Beth that Al is still alive.
So here are five others:
B5 - Chrysalis - Londo's deal with Mr. Morden. The first appearance of the Shadows. Garibaldi shot. Delenn confronting Sinclair with a Triluminary. EarthForce One's destruction. Kosh's famous, "And so it begins". Sinclair's final line, "Nothing's the same anymore."
B5 - The Coming Of Shadows - G'Kar buying Londo a drink. Garibaldi/Delenn hearing, "Hello, old friend". Emperor Turhan's exchange with Kosh: "T: How will this all end? K: In fire."
24 - Day One, 11pm-midnight (season finale) - Palmer leaving Sherry with the Secret Service, Jack baring his soul on the docks, and his amazing transformation from a broken and beaten man to a bloodthirsty maniac wanting revenge within 5 seconds time. (Just watching Keifer Sutherland go through this transformation -- you can read all of Jack's emotions on his face -- is impressive.) Jack discovering Teri's body.
24 - Day Three, 6-7am - Ryan Chappelle, having no one to call or say goodbye to. R.I.P.
Lucky - It's In The Stars (Series Finale) - The final scene, where Thresea hails a cab and drives out of Lucky's life just as he wins the world championship. During his interview, where he realizes that he's won the only thing he wanted while losing the only thing he's needed.
And a comment about B5 - The Fall of Centauri Prime. In my opinion, Londo Mollari is possibly television's most tragic character. His story is one of promising hopes and dreams that turned into his greatest and longest nightmare. Throughout the series we see his rise and fall, all due to his own tragic flaws, and in fact a great many of the terrible things that happen on the series are Londo's fault. But he's not evil, or a villain. In fact, he's a basically good person and at many times is very much one of the good guys. But he makes some really horrific mistakes, and his pride keeps him from realizing what he is doing until it is too late. This episode is the culmination of his heartbreaking personal journey into damnation. My heart breaks every time I think of Londo's long walk, and of his previous comment to G'Kar: "Isn't it strange, G'kar? When we first met I had no power and all the choices I could ever want. Now I have all the power I could ever want, and no choice at all.... no choice at all.""

I remember I first saw this episode at a friend's house. He never saw the show before, so when it was over, he said "I thought this show was supposed to be a comedy." All I could say was "Yeah, it usually is." But I wouldn't change a thing about that ending.

Tim and Dawn FINALLY hook up. When Dawn runs back into the party and plants one on Tim...ah...it's triumphant. What a great moment.

My Choice
I haven't read the entire thread, but I don't think this one was mentioned yet. There is only one stand-out for me in this category. I was probably 4 or 5 years old when I first saw it. It's the scene on Sesame Street when Big Bird is giving out pictures that he drew of all the cast members. The last one he has is one of Mr. Hooper. This leads to the cast trying to explain to Big Bird that Mr. Hooper has passed away. It's the most difficult and emotional thing I've ever seen on TV. I don't know how I reacted when I was younger, but a few years ago they reaired the scene on a retrospective special, Sesame Street Unpaved. I was in college at the time, watching it with my girlfriend, and I started truly bawling! It was embarrassing, but she must have thought it was pretty cool because we're married now. I can't imagine anything else making me react like that.

Buffy, Babylon 5, Quantum Leap, Star Trek.
I like SF as much as the next person. But dramatic moments???? I realize there are heart felt moments in some of these shows ... but
"Most EMOTIONAL Moment in TV History ?"
I don't mean to be condescending, since I watch those shows as well. I just feel it is strange that so many emotion dramas are not even mentioned in a thread that plays to their strengths. Instead we have Buffy !!! rofl. Sorry couldn't resist.

Find me a television drama moment more exhilerating than the end of "Severed Dreams", more heart-breaking than "Becoming, Part II", or more gut-wrenching than "Sleeping in Light". I mean to be condescending, but why discount a show's emotional impact simply because of its genre?

"The thread title is a bit of an exaggeration; no one is looking for the moment, just a list of people's favorites."
Mine would be the season 1 finale of Everwood. With Colin's mom shaving his head before he goes into surgery. Series Finale of Jack & Bobby when Jack meets his father for the first time.
I apologize for thread crapping and I realize my choices aren't critic proof. I just expected a lot more from this thread than a barrage of Sci-Fi shows who primary suspense is built through adventure and not arc built dramatic moments. I don't mean to disqualify anyones choices individually, but the collective choices of this thread seem ... odd.

One that always got me and was very shocking is a major character, Cherry, dieing on China Beach. Regular character didnt often die on TV shows back them so it caught me off gaurd.
