Das, maybe this would make for a good stand-alone post -- which Star Trek crew member would you pick from each series for your crew? Just a thought...
And as for your critique of the captains... you, sir, are WRONG and very mistaken. You would seriously take James Tiberius "Hey, She's Hot, Screw The Prime Directive!" Kirk over all the others? I'd take Picard as my chief commander, someone that would keep an even keel and not recklessly gamble and jeopardize countless alien civilizations -- not to mention the fate of the freakin' galaxy! Second I would take Sisco -- I always felt like he was up to something, that he would have the one plan that would make everything work no matter what the odds. Third would probably be Archer... despite the show's mediocre writers, he continues to stand out as a cool and competent leader, IMO. Next would be Kirk -- because heck, I'd throw in WIll Decker before I got to Janeway -- and then Janeway. |

He is a captain of a space station. What does he have to do - set up the docking schedule. ;) Archer? I won't even comment on that one. Janeway? Got time of the month issues there. Will Decker? He had the hots for a bald chick??!! Yeah, she had a high level of pheromones, but come on, she was bald! The man is not sane. |
I bet Kirk would nail Tasha.
Picard would never think of such a thing. Sisco might think about it, but only if she wore a baseball uniform. Janeway might, but who would want to watch? Archer would be blushing so bad he’d never be able to get it up. |
Originally posted by Wizdar I bet Kirk would nail Tasha. Nail her? Heck, he'd do her right in the Captain's chair. ;) |
Look, even though Kirk was a womanizing, rule-ignoring prima donna, his crew always came first, and he always kept his head under pressure.
Subjected to torture? No problem - he'd just endure it, find a way to escape and beat the crap out of the bad guys. Surrounded by enemy ships? No problem - he'd just just convince them that there is help on the way or that the Enterprise has some new technology, and he would sell it! Heck, I think I'd still believe in the Corbomite device today if Kirk told me it was true! Kirk was the most badass of the ST captains. He was smarter than everyone, tougher than everyone, and he didn't take any crap. Second I would take Picard. Third Sisko. Fourth Archer. If someone told me to serve under Janeway, I'd resign. |

Can you imagine how great Kirk and company would have been with a battle bridge. |
I bet Archer does it with Porthos.

Trip wouldn’t take it. Malcolm would, but not Trip.

 Good call. das P.S. This thread has officially become a Star Trek convention. :) |
Dadgummit - I think I lost my retainer and my Spock ears! Here, hold my Tribble lunchbox while I go look for them near the Klingon bar.
K'Plagh! |
*Holy thread resurrection, batman!*
After picking up season 1 and 2 of the Old School Trek sets - the first time I've really seen the show in 20+ years now - I gotta admit that all other versions of Trek pale in comparison. Why yes, the effects were shoestring (but WAY more creative than what we have now) and the acting can get way over the top in places, but 90% of the writing has been ROCK solid, and the chemistry of the cast is pure gold. And frankly, I just don't like the boring old "Lets talk" attitude in next gen and beyond. In the episode I watched last night (The Apple) Kirk's First Contact response to the alien that's been following the landing party? A solid left hook, making him cry like a bitch. That's CLASSIC! Face it TOS pownz all other versions of Trek. |

I agree with it, though. That Bandoman is one smart fellow. |
Well, he was once upon a time...
:D |
And a big pfui! to all of you who piss on "Bread and Circuses." I wouldn't have gotten through freshman sociology without frequent use of the phrase, "Ah! Flavius Maximus! You've been too long absent from the games."
Well, that and "Are you of the body?" |

I hate these old threads, I have to read through the whole thing and make sure I haven't posted yet.
Anyways - I still haven't seen all the TOS episodes. Every time I catch a new one, I tend to enjoy it. I love the show. I can't say that about many other shows of the same era. |

As for TOS, I mentioned that I thought it was wretchedly cheesy one night a long time ago, and my sister started cracking up. Apparently in her circles, this is a taboo thing to say, but she agreed. TOS sucks; it's kind of a secret, and not something to be said at cons, but it's still true. |
I enjoyed TOS.
Enterprise? now that's another story because that fucking sucks. |
Originally posted by al_bundy i still can't believe that TOS was written by Roddenberry, who could be described as a hippie. And TNG with B&B's more let's talk about our problems and our childhood trek is also made up by hippies. |
Kirk,Spock,McCoy(R.I.P.)........nobody else compares.
