Series ending cliffhangers
The news that John Doe may not come back fro a second season got me thinking about other shows that ended a season with a cliffhanger and then never came back to resolve it. One that comes to mind is Earth 2. In the cliffhanger, the main character had just collapsed for mysterious reasons. We never found out why, or how they would save her.
Another one that comes to mind is Benson, which ended with an election between the Governor and Benson. We never found out who won ...

hate to admit but I watched
Models Inc
They never resolved who got shot at the wedding i.e. the wife, husband, baby or the mother-in-law.
They never resolved how the model turned escort will escape from being kidnapped to Mexico.

Newsradio, sorta.
Plans were to resolve it IF they got renewed, or to let it stand IF they weren't renewed.
Always thought it would be cool to have a series finale end on cliffhanger and never resolve it, on purpose.......

When VR.5 aired on Fox back in 1995 - it ended on - I think - episode 9 of 13 total episodes.
When it ended on Fox, it was a cliffhanger.
I never saw 'em - but apparently there are a few episodes after where Fox stopped that fix that.

The Pretender ended with the explosion in the tunnel (Season 3)... then the Made-For-TNT movies picked up where it left off.

The Lone Gunmen ended with some kind of cliffhanger that was never really resolved. Didn't see the episode though.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for resolution on the V cliffhanger.

(embarrased to admit) but I got into the WB show Popular in it's last season. The season ended with one of the main characters getting hit by a car, with the identity of the driver in question. Alas, series not renewed... big plot line never resolved, faithful viewers left hanging. sigh.

Spoiler:
I actually remember being very irritated by the cancellation, since I'd only been watching the show for four or five episodes at the time. Pretty much just long enough to learn everyones names.

Freaks & Geeks and My So-Called Life both ended with unresolved story lines for their female leads, and especially Freaks & Geeks had a lot of major character development in what turned out to be the last episode.

Jessica was in front of a firing squad, Burt was about to be stabbed, and I believe there was a third cliffhanger as well.
And someone please confirm that I'm not insane, but did they not wrap up Jessica's storyline on Benson?

The Benson ending was extremely frustrating.
Dallas ended its run with JR preparing to kill himself. Fade to black and you hear a gunshot. Of course, they came back and resolved it in the reunion movie.

Quantum Leap wasn't so much a cliffhanger as it was open-ended. There's a difference. It's not like Sam was left facing a gun barrel or something. They just chose not to send him home for the big happy ending.
Lone Gunmen's cliffhanger was rendered moot by their final appearance on The X-Files.
This year's "First Monday" ended with a cliffhanger which is unlikely to ever get resolved, unless Bellisario somehow uses it on JAG or something. Nasty car accident/vehicular assassination to end the show.
