I thought the first half was quite great (the protest, the 'trying to have a flashback' and Cartman was awesome "get out of my flashback you goddamn jew") but the last half really dragged and wasn't nearly as funny...

they had a great setup and the payoff wasn't as big or as great as I had hoped...certainly not a terrible episode, just not as good as I was hoping (this season has been decent, but so far nothing has been as good as last season...hopefully there will be another episode of "ladder to heaven" quality very soon)

MATT

Cartman totally rules.

The episode was the worst of the season IMO, the first half was alright, but the second part with the big musical number was pretty bad.

I give it a meh!

I thought it was pretty funny. The part with the protests were great.

People who don't find this episode funny should just stop watching SP all together and go to bed earlier 'cause way past your bed time... and of course, get that carrot out of your bung hole.

I thought the it was really funny w/ Cartman kept trying to bring himself into flash back. The TiVO on timer for 60 hours of history channel was hilarious. And all that political low blows at Americans and the Bush Admin, good stuff.

Holy ****! That was my problem! Ok, now that I have removed all the vegetables from my anus, I give this episode a solid C+.

It was an okay episode. I laughed a good bit and then sat there staring at the colors a good bit as well, BUT what I thought was great, and what I always think is great in this show, is Matt and Trey's ability to lampoon a situation and dig out the finite detail that really underscores the real situation.

For example, I sat there, like many oh you, "meh"-ing most of it and chuckling at the funny bits [and I don't care what you say, there are ALWAYS funny bits] but at the end when Ben Franklin launches into his speech concluding how we should be a country who acts one way and says the other was great. In a couple of minutes they summed up the basic political relevence of our country, and here's the kicker, without bashing it.

Say what you want but they make us laugh at ourselves, whoever ourselves may be, and even when the episode falls to ass, like it did with that closing number [ugh] there is usuallu wonderful underlying commentary to glean something from.

But, hell, I just like jokes about poo and vomit, so........

I don't know how to say this without sounding condescending, but I really feel that people who don't get this show just aren't too bright. I guess that's what "reality" tv and shows like Jackass do to people.

This episode was amazing. As always, Trey and Matt are right on. Whether you choose to accept it or not, they just solved for us in 22 mintues what people in the war forum have been bitching about for 22 days. At this time yesterday, I would have never thought anyone could change my mind about those idiot protestors. I was wrong. I would never join them, but I see their purpose now. And it makes sense.

Anyway, rabble, rabble...

I really am starting to wonder what's going on.. I seem to remember almost every episode from season 5 and 6 had me non-stop laughing.

Edit: I just went over an episode list for 5 & 6, and confirmed.. this recent batch of episodes has been sour.

They do a great job of highlighting both sides in a political debate. Leave to Matt and Trey to make sense out of the whole pro vs anti war debate.

Cartman and the TIVO was hysterical.

Is there really a need to attack those that do not have the same views as you? Wasn't that exactly what this episode was about?

I agree with what you say about this episode. But, getting the show and it being funny are two different things.

Good message last night, but not presented in the hysterical format you expect from South Park.

The last two weeks have been very weak. The best one so far is the Jimmy and Timmy episode.

Exactly. People aren't watching South Park for political clarity, they're watching it see comedic vulgarity and violence. They have done episodes before handling current events that managed to be funny. Remeber the episode with the kindergarten kids election? Or the Quintuplets episode? The Osama bin Laden episode? Possibly others, but those all dealt with current events while being consistantly funny. This episode was hit and miss, most of the "hits" involving Cartman.

That being said..

Cartman killing somebody while singing Dawson's Creek = Comedy

"Everything can be worked out in a lockdown in the gymnasium" Yeah, that one was pretty hilarious.

I actually thought last week's episode was pretty hilarious too with all the movie satire revolving around two of the greats, The Godfather and Silence of the Lambs.

This week was pretty good with Cartman being the best part of it. I would have to say the boys dialogue during the song at the end was hilarious though.

Trey and Matt did very well in conveying the current events and it's too bad more people don't watch this show because it has had many social epiphanies in it.

The problem with this show, as others have said, is that it wasn't as funny. In fact, this episode was very serious. I think Matt and Trey got their point across and they used the 100th episode to show us that both sides have their valid points and the fact that one side cannot live without the other.

Maybe many of us went in looking for something highly hysterical and came out thinking this episode was not so good because it wasn't funny. Trey and Matt have made fun of serious things before, but I'm actually glad they took the high road on this one while still keeping the underlying hilarity in there.

I will never forget Cartman and the Tivo...that was pure genius.

And let's not forget...Trey and Matt pulled the wool over our eyes once before on a "big episode" when they showed the Terrence and Philip show on April 1st instead of the 2nd episode of "Who's Cartman's Dad". Maybe they are not so much into the "big episodes" as others are.

I have to admit to completely loving this episode. Yeah, the political commentary was insightful and funny, but I just can't get enough of Cartman's crazy schemes, and I found myself laughing heartily at all the "rabble rabble" stuff and Cartman's attempts to induce a flashback. I loved the scene where he was trying to kill time while everyone else was studying. I don't know if I was simply in the right mood or what, but this episode just made me laugh, and that's good enough for me.

Attack? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

OK, first you say that those that do not have the same view as you aren't too bright. Then you say that I don't know what the word attack means?

Obviously, you are one of those people that feel that anyone who does not have the same viewpoint as you are wrong. Instead of debating on content, you need to belittle others. That being said, there is no need for me to continue, since you would only respond with some other childishness.

Oh, and Cartman rules

Maybe it's just me, but don't the two go hand in hand? How can you get the show and not think it's funny?

It was presented in the exact format I expect from South Park. It was well written, very relevant, and extremely funny.

Ok, I'll play along even though you aren't going to continue.

I never said "those that do not have the same view" as me aren't too bright. I said, and I quote, "people who don't get this show just aren't too bright." It is entirely possible for someone to get this show and not have my same views.

And if you think that's an attack, then I stand by my claim that you do not know what that word means.
