Scare Tactics anyone?

Sure it's a bit mean-spirited, but I still like it anyways. Pretty cool that Shannen is involved in some of the pranks instead of just hosting.

Charlie Goose 04-05-03 01:47 AM

I watched both shows. Good pranks, although I wish they were carried out a little longer. They only keep their victims on the hook for a minute or two. The best was Sasquatch attacking the camper, but Doherty being kidnapped was fun too. With the deranged hitchhiker gag, as soon as the victim saw the driver getting stabbed, he jumped right on top of the guy and was punching the crap out of him.

WiccanPagan 04-05-03 01:36 PM

what channel is this on? i saw her on conan and kimmel and wasn't interested enough to listen to when the show was on.

asabase 04-05-03 01:58 PM

That guy shooting the plasma gun was such a sucker. How could anyone believe that was a real gun?

MJKTool 04-05-03 05:36 PM

Yes although it was pretty damn mean I thought it was hilarious. My favorite skits were the Alien & Bigfoot scares. I thought it was so funny the way that dude in the backseat JETTED and left his girl during the Alien sequence.

Rogue588 04-05-03 06:17 PM

*sigh*

You guys are disappointing me..

This is crap. Sci-Fi channel is crap. Hammer is a ::beep:: ::beep:: who ::beep:: her ::beep:: ::beep:: sideways..

For the record [And so this post isn't a total :crap:]

I saw Shannon on Conan last nite. He mentioned he was surprised that no one had sued [Couldn't tell if that was his sly way of bringing up the lawsuit]..

It was amusing watching her weasel outta that one..

And she mentioned the "skit" that MJKTool did too..

clemente 04-05-03 10:52 PM

I didn't watch the show, but I remember a few months back someone involved in an alien scam was suing the show (may or may not be the alien one from this show).

That guy was only a few IQ points this side of functional, but he was so proud of himself when he thought he was hitting the targets.

mikehunt 04-06-03 11:07 AM

this should not be on Sci-Fi
that said, me and my brother laughed our asses off

innocentfreak 04-06-03 08:50 PM

Next episode...

Boo

Are you scared?

You should be you are on scare tactics.

They will also show clips from Kids in tha Hall and the reading of There's a Spider on Your Shoulder.

I thought the show was ok, but just when the scare was starting they stopped. Even my scares last longer than that and I don't get paid to do it. I did laugh my ass of when the guy in the front seat of the car got stabbed by the hitchhiker and the guy in the back started punching the hell out of him.

blakader 04-07-03 12:44 AM

What surprised me was how well some of the people took it.
I loved when the alien guy ripped off that door in the first one.
I also liked Shannon being in some of the pranks.

I don't know. I thought that most of the pranks were pretty damn funny. But it's crossing the line when you lead someone to believe that they may have killed someone (plasma gun prank), or when you prank a guy that can't even speak fluent English (buried alive prank). But the alien and bigfoot pranks were great!

junior 04-07-03 08:00 PM

I must admit I laughed out loud during the hitchhiker beating.

Dr. DVD 04-07-03 10:57 PM

I do not know why, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if that lawsuit was a hoax for publicity and the victims were in on the pranks.

Rogue588 04-08-03 12:05 AM

Perhaps we are the victims..?

mcbg1 04-08-03 05:49 PM

I haven't seen the show yet but I'm wondering, if someone on the show who thought was really attacked by some crazy hitchhiker or alien, etc and killed the 'attacker', would he be prosecuted and accused of murder even though everything around him led him to believe the danger was real ?

mikehunt 04-08-03 08:44 PM

me and my brother were wondering about this
what happens when someone carries a concealed weapon and the prank involves the "victims" being attacked
for example, with the hitch hiker. once he pulled the knife a good case for justifiable homicide could have been made if the guy in the back had shot/stabbed him instead of punching him

RichC2 04-08-03 09:13 PM

I'm pretty sure they have a safety net/the "actors" get any weapons away from the person. This is likely the reason why there is a disclaimer before it, since these aren't jackass-style stunts.

PalmerJoss 04-09-03 08:14 AM

The promos for this show seemed interesting, so I watched the first episode. It was the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. I will never watch another episode--insulting to my intelligence is what this dreck is.

Rogue588 04-12-03 03:28 AM

Saw Shannon on a talk show last nite or the night before..

She showed a clip from the show. It involved her "punking" a friend of hers. As they were all in a cab, the cabbie "hit" a pedestrian who eventually threw the cabbie out and comandeered the cab. Shannon was in the passenger's seat & her friends were in the back. After the "pedestrian" took control of the car, he started driving crazy and finally into a wall or something..

MAN, that's great Sci-Fi!

-rolleyes-

caiman 04-12-03 03:43 AM

Why is everyone giving this show such a hard time? IMHO, it's one of the funniest hidden camera/pracitcal joke shows ever. I find myself laughing out loud at least once or twice with each episode.

Jackskeleton 04-12-03 04:24 AM

I want to see the UFO one. :(

Wormwood 04-13-03 12:29 AM

They've been repeating that episode Jack.

mikehunt 04-13-03 10:59 AM

the first episode (the only one I've seen) was very funny
but it has nothing to do with science fiction, which is why it's bashed

I thought the entire point of the series was to re-enact scenes from popular horror movies with the unsuspecting... Last time I checked Cheesy/Popular Horror Movies were right up Sci-fis alley.

That said, I think it's pretty funny too heh.

skits about Big foot, UFO's, High tech weapons.. I would say it has more to do with Sci Fi then most of the other stuff Sci Fi shows.

LeftyBrasco 04-15-03 05:59 PM

Did anyone see the promo for the next episode...from what i notice, it looked like a girl was "punking" her grandfather...and it looked like he was cutting a guys hair...and then the guy starts to bleed from the head and the old guy passes out and falls to the floor and the girl starts screaming and the guy, (sitting on the chair) takes off the wig and is suprised...i thought maybe the old guy was in on it, but it was a pretty old guy, who would break a hip from the fall he took....

Rogue588 04-15-03 06:19 PM

BWAH HA HA HA HA...

that's so Sci Fi! -rolleyes-
[Not to mention laugh inducing..]

So the impression that i'm getting is that these non"Sci-Fi" "punks" are okay since they throw the "Sci-Fi" geeks a bone every now and then by showing Bigfoot, a UFO, etc..

..mmmmkay.

[I think I just need to unsubscribe to this thread..I feel like i'm pissin' in the wind..]

Jackskeleton 04-15-03 08:12 PM

Maybe you should unsubscrible to the thread if it's making your response sound like a prick. Lets put it this way.. the general make up of a show, lets take the most recent episode:

Bio-tech "zombie" sort of creature in a clean up crew

the next one deals with a creepy cult.

Third skit deals with a repo man from hell who seems to be killing folks

last prank is a gorilla going crazy.

I'm sorry, but to me most of these situations would be considered a bit on the Science FICTION side of story telling. If you really don't like the show, don't watch it. I'm sure <s>TNN</s> SPIKE network will feel your need for Sci-Fi with one of the many TNG marathons they show on any given weekend.

I would relate this sort of Sci-Fi with the justification of why the twilight zone is on Sci-Fi. it's telling you a story of something that is FICTION. a bizar event. I'm satisfied with the bone they throw me along the lines of bigfoot, UFO's or Bio-freaks.

Rogue588 04-16-03 01:43 AM

The only reason I can discern you making a statement such as "Maybe you should unsubscrible* to the thread if it's making your response sound like a prick." is that you interpreted a response of mine as a slam towards you..[?] If that's the case, this is far from the truth. You enjoy the show and that's your perogative.

Reading the thread again [From the beginning..], perhaps I, too, should've left it at das' "Obligatory 'this show can bite me' :crap:".

I can also see how you might think I was responding to one of your posts talking about the skits and how "..it has more to do with Sci Fi then most of the other stuff Sci Fi shows" and in that regards you are correct. I don't know if you've been following the changes at Sci-Fi, but it essentially went from a Sci Fi "niche" channel to your basic cable channel [Some refer to it as USA2]. When there's a channel that calls itself the "Sci Fi Channel", should I really have to turn to TNN** to watch Sci Fi? Nor do I consider TNG to be the be-all end-all for Science Fiction.

Thinking about it now, I suppose I don't go to MTV for Music on TeleVision anymore, so I guess it's just the natural progression of things..

*Not saying that was your suggestion..

**[I'm assuming TNN is related to this Spike network you're talking about? Or did something happen on TNN?

Jackskeleton 04-16-03 05:28 AM

TNN is changing it's name to the SPIKE network. Yes I have been aware of the changes to sci fi with them showing braveheart and so forth. very crappy indeed when they have a slew of old shows they could easily get the rights to air. But considering scare tactics does have some aspects of the sci fi

Trigger 07-21-03 03:36 AM

Bleh - I almost wanted to start a new thread since this one was corrupted...

Anyway - I really like this show - one of the funniest shows on television. I've been watching it when I happen to catch it - I've only seen 4 episodes so far I think... maybe 5 - how many have there been?

The alien prank was friggin hilarious - that dude flew out of the car leaving his date to die... he practically kicked her in the face. And that dude in the hitchhiker gag beat the hell out of that actor. That's comedy. Some of you people have no sense of humor.

Sci-fi is a pretty worthless channel except for the occasional gem like this.

It's back! A revival, produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions, has premiered on USA Network. Also, streaming on Peacock.

When Netflix carried the SyFy episodes a couple years ago, I was surprised they included the nudity (removed the blurred censor).

MLBFan24 10-12-24 01:37 PM

Re: Scare Tactics anyone?

I saw the first episode. Definitely lacks a punch like the previous installments. Especially the culinary experience segment. I expected the girl to run out fighting for her life.

And the “host” is not it. Trash it.
