The whole episode was so fluffy, I hated it. There were no likable characters, except for the art teacher. Otherwise, it was just a bunch of disjointed conversations. Entertaining, sure, but definately not the kind of drama that got me interested originally. I know there will be a plot climax sometime, but I just hope they don't wait until epispode 8 to do so.

C'mon das. You should be used to it by now.
I think everyone has had something against you at some point or another.

Oh, I'm completely used to it ... hence the indifferent sarcasm. If you share enough opinions, sooner or later you'll say something that gets under the skin of just about everyone. It's the natural consequence of expressing an opinion, and it is to be expected. If people can't handle that, I don't know why they're wasting their time on a discussion board. Over the last 4 years, I've had my differences with just about everyone here, but we've worked through it like sensible adults and moved on (I'd like to think you and I did just that some time ago). If certain posters want to dwell on the negatives and repeatedly insult me in thread after thread just because I don't share their world view, that's their problem. I'm not really going to waste my time with such silliness ... and if that attitude is pompous, then so be it.

Everyone,
If you have a problem with someone, fix it, keep it to yourself, or place them on your ignore list. Don't make snide comments and don't make personal attacks. Let's make it so the only drama we discuss in this forum is on the television screen, please.

While I'm enjoying the season so far, although last night's episode was on the average side, I'll agree 100% with you here Grunter -- are you people on crack or something? Where on earth is it written that two women can't have a friendship without them suddenly becoming lesbians? As for Ruth's whole comment about whether or not it would be 'appropriate to call,' that didn't necessarily have romantic implications. You can have friends who you're that way with too -- wondering if you're coming off too strong when you want to hang out with them all the time, or a friend who constantly calls you when you'd rather do something else. The idea that this Ruth and Bettina plotline is leading to a lesbian affair is just idiotic. There've been no rational foreshadowings of this whatsoever IMHO

Anyway, I'm not as hooked this year as I was in previous seasons, but I am a big fan of the new art teacher. Why? Because even if it's a fiction, I imagine that I learned something about being an artist. I wish there was more sincerity in our entertainment today.
I noticed the big bench too, but didn't think about it as a dreamy thing. But, the fade to whites? My god, maybe.
One other thing-- did you notice Nate's car? A late 90's Thunderbird, I think. Almost the last kind of car I would imagine Nate driving.

I noticed the bench was way up high, but I figured it was that way so they could see the view over the cliff better.
I could understand asking about being too forward in pursuing a friendship with someone, but I did find it odd that Ruth spoke of it not in terms of a friendship but of a romantic relationship. And when Claire's boyfriend was giving her advice about how to call/not call "him" Ruth made no move to say "Oh no, this is just a female friend I'm talking about."
So I think this is where the "lesbian" question is coming on.
Although as a woman, I gotta ask-- if you're going to dabble in lesbianism, why would you first try Kathy Bates? I'd turn lesbian for quite a few women, but Kathy Bates is definitely not one of them.

OK - heres where i got the lesbian vibe -
a conversation between Ruth and Kathy Bates where they were shopping fro blouses at a round rack and talking about getting their hair done (I think). Ruth said that the hair is the "entry to the soul", or something to that effect, and Kathy comes back with "not the hair on your head". There was a definite signal there.
I also noticed the bench - thinking it was like a scene from Alice in Wonderland.

Guess I'm the only one who thought Edith Ann when I saw the bench

This was the second time I've watched the show. It still doesn't really do anything for me. How many simulataneous stories do they need going on in one episode? Definitely wasn't a good episode for me to give the show a try unless they do this all the time. I do agree that the art class was entertaining. The bench reminded me of those old Lily Tomlin scetches...speaking of lesbians

I hope most of you are able to watch 6FU in 5.1, it certainly makes a great show even better. The pool scene was made all the more dramatic with the insults coming from all sides in David's vision.
Crap, I FF through the Carnivale preview. When does the show start?
[Brown nose moment] hey das : I've never had a problem with any of your views, even when I may not agree with them, I certainly think twice about it because of the way you defend your position. So keep it up! [/Brown nose moment]

Let's end the mystery: the bench is a REAL bench at the top of a popular trail in the Hollywood Hills called Runyon Canyon. It's funny, because I've seen and sat on that bench so many times, it didn't even occur to me that people would find it funny looking and question it.
(On a side note, if you're ever in LA, you should go on that hike, because lots of celebrities around here run that trail with their doggies every day.)

Interesting article about this season's Six Feet Under (and they mention the bench!):
