Vince and Rosi were hysterical!!! VV is just the personification of "hip"...that boy can swing with anyone.....he should get his own show and get rid of Kilborn for god's sake....

"we've got geri halliwell." vince
"who?" rosie
the whole chat about pop music was hilarious. avril lavigne (why is she so angry?), pink (liked her when she was black, like her now that she's white), and christina aguilera (stop showing us your vagina).

Vince was excellent, superb, far and away the best guest host yet. Heck, I'm a Letterman devotee, but I'd say that tonight's show was more entertaining than 90% of the regular shows! Vince's interview with Rosie was easily the funniest interview I've seen in an extremely long time (excluding the one on Da Ali G show with the opposite questions to the fashion designer :: - if you saw it, you know what I'm talking about). Of course it wasn't hard for Vince when Rosie's giving you setups like that to work with!
He was very good with Geri too, though I'm just glad that they gave him 2 segments with Rosie!
I'm definitely looking forward to Ferrell though... I can only hope it's half as good as tonight's.

I am glad Vince was good last night, I am going to have to watch it when I get home from work. Definitely glad I taped it. I taped Whoopi's turn on Monday, but only watched Dave Chappell's segment on the show and Ben Harper. All Whoopi does is talk about politics, I just don't see VV doing that, guess I will find out this afternoon.

Vince is a perfect example of why this guest-hosting thing is a great idea. I thought he did an excellent job. The guy is just so Vegas Lounge Entertainer that this sort of thing is natural for him. He even played off of Paul really well.
What you do notice, though, is how good Dave is at this, what with his schtick and ability to just fill those empty spots with his personality. You notice those moments with these guys.

Maybe now when Letterman takes a vacation, they can have guest hosts one or two weeks of the year. I think they have proven that it is somewhat popular or they wouldn't be doing it again this week. People obviously like it. CBS could start a whole new tradition if they start to do this every year. If certain guest hosts are popular, they could have them back next year, such as Bruce Willis and Vince Vaughn. I think it would be something out of the norm and that is good, imo.

I could see Dave taking extra time off outside of health problems to do this. He's been doing the show for over 20 years now. They could still have reruns. Bahist was only suggesting one or two weeks. They definitely get more time off than that per year.
CBS pays him so much I don't see Dave retiring any time soon, but I could see him wanting some more time off, especially if they can get these high profile celebs to guest host. I'm all for it as long as they don't do a Carson/Leno type deal. No permanent substitute teachers

I finally watched Vince Vaughn's show from last night. I am speechless - he looked like he had been doing it for years! He was fantastic and had excellent rapport w/ all of the guests, particularly w/ Rosie Perez. Seriously, I am completely amazed. He could do this for a living I think. He's funny as hell, too. Excellent show.
I am really looking forward to Will Ferrell tomorrow night.

I think Elvis just a did a top-notch job as a guest host, too. Two nights in a row that the producers have bowled strikes in picking perfect guest hosts. Mitch Hedberg was awesome as well. Eddie Izzard is always amusing. Kim Catrall seems like she tries to be a little too hoity-toity and sophisticated, but oh well, she looks great for a 46 year-old broad. Very pleased w/ tonight's show and the job Elvis did. Yeah, Rogue - that's a great song.

Elvis gets the Best Unexpected GREAT Chat Show Host award for this year. I'm a great fan of his but had my doubts about his presence in that format. You know, singers/artists trying to come off as coherent and witty and all. HOWEVER, just going to show what great chance-takers the late show crew are [and, more specifically Dave and Paul] they knew Elvis from way back and saw something in his personality that they thought could do it well OVER name recognition. A rarity to be sure!
Highlights:
-The opening monologue and the rendition of 'Allison' [which I've been singing as Leeeeeeee-ter-maaan' and probably always will now]
-Eddie Izzard [gawd bless'm] getting more seat time in the secondary guest position than snoozer Catrall's first spot
-Eddie Izzard
-Elvis' quiet demeanor and wry humor that threw the audiance into a stupor while keeping me rolling on the floor at home.
-That stellar close out performance!!!!!
That's two out of the park in a row. I am frantically awaiting the third tonight!
