well i never watched the show until dvd so most of the people you have named I have no clue who they are. My favorite characters from season 1-3 are
Drusilla-She was so underused I hope there is more of her in later episodes.
Cordelia- She just cracked me up
Willow- I like the shy bashful Willow, but it sounds like she goes through some drastic changes in the later seasons so this may change my favorite character.

I don't have a favorite... I like Faith, Buffy, and Anya the best, but I think that every character that matters (oz, cordy, dru, etc...) had their moments where they were great.
On a side note what's with the backlash with Kennedy? I don't see the reason why she's hated. Another thing I can't see is why Halfrek was liked so much. Any info on this with a little detail would be appreciated...PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME!

I'm all about Willow. I absolutely adore her. She's smart and has a genuine sweetness about her. I love her smile, too.
While my heart belongs to the lovely little red-headed Wiccan, I also have much love for Faith. Granted, she's a sociopath, but there's also a no bull**** aura around her. She's the kind of girl who you'll take out to dinner and she'll eat a whole steak and not just pick at the salad, slam down as many beers as you, and pee in the alley with you after you leave. My kind of girl.
Buffy is kind of cute, but she also gives off this high-maintenance sorority girl vibe. And Angel is right - she can be a brat.

It all started when Kennedy lied and manipulated Willow into their first date. She skipped out on a training trip, faked ill, and used her Potentialness to get Willow to go out with her ("It's an important mission. REALLY."). It was a big predatory move on Kennedy's part, and something I found completely reprehensible.
Since they've hooked up, Kennedy has been clinging to Willow in almost every scene they're in together. Stuff like leaning over Willow's shoulder while Willow's doing research; the whole thing has an air of a dog guarding a bone. She won Willow, fair and square, and nobody better try to take her property.
It only got worse, for me, when she started acting power-mad. It started to seem like she was so clingy with Willow because she knew Willow had power, and by aliging herself with that power, she could better her situation. Shortly after officially getting together with Willow, Kennedy elevates herself to boss of all SiTs and then proves she should be boss of nothing with stuff like the "maggot" moment.
When she spoke up during Buffy's "Everybody Sucks But Me" speech, her reasoning wasn't so much that Buffy was wrong--It was that Willow had more power, so Buffy shouldn't be able to say bad things about her. She has no interest in practical knowledge, just in power. She's confident and arrogant, but with no depth beyond her confidence and arrogance. They already did the overly confident, full-of herself Slayer story with Faith. Only Faith wasn't a gaping pit of suck. Kennedy's kind of like Faith's lamer, more irritating, less interesting kid sister.
Also, there's no apparent chemistry between Iyari Limon and Alyson Hannigan. This led to a complete lack of any real believable sexual tension in the initial Bronze scene. Or any scene thereafter. The kiss in Storyteller looked like they were both really, really bored.
