As far as the FOX show. I cant believe that anything with Rob Cohen behind it could be good. He did Fast and the Furious, XXX and that horrible Fraternity movie with Joshua Jackson.
It would have to be pretty good to watch it.

I was wondering why they were treating it that way. Didn't know a network would want to torpedoe one of its own shows.

Just look at what happened to the Babylon 5 spin-off Crusade.
Warners (who own the franchise) effectively allowed TNT to sink the show before it even aired.
This was around 1999, when the Star Trek franchise was seriously floundering, Star Wars Ep One and a certain floppy-eared alien had pissed off its fans, fatigue was setting into the X-Files and its actors... and Warners sat around with its thumb up its ass while TNT did everything it could to destroy the next potential big sci-fi franchise.

Buffy can't go on forever. It seems like a good time to end it, the cast is already showing their true ages. I'm hoping their won't be another spin off. Angel has been better than expected, but with the material they have now to work with I don't see anything all that compelling being produced.
Dawn and the slayerettes? That would be fairly lame.
Something with Spike? How many vampire w/ soul detective agencies do you need? Although sending Spike over to Angel would be pretty good, I think.
Faith? That would be kind of a rehash of everything they've done so far. Different slayer, same storylines. No thanks. I've never much cared for Faith to begin with though.
Something with Xander and Anya? What's going to happen there? Nothing worth their own show, really. I could see them as supporting characters on a spinoff, but that's about it. Ditto for Willow.
About the only idea that sounds interesting is the ASH spinoff in England that will never happen.
Let the show die, it's been good but it's got to be over sometime.
**I'm willing to be wrong on all these points, after all I thought a show about Frasier was the stupidest thing I'd heard of and I gave it 1 maybe 2 seasons

UPN has always been a saviour of anything happened to Angel on WB, because apart of the Buffy deal to UPN, was picking up Angel, if WB didn't want it anymore, thus UPN was a cushion, so this UPN situation of it not doing so well, is not great for Angel, but hopefully UPN can stay around for a few more years, and Angel can have at least one more season on WB, making it season 5, and if WB didn't want it after that, UPN would pick it up for season 6 apart of their agreement.

For how much they've payed for Buffy and the drop in ratings it's had I think UPN would be very leary about picking up another vampire show.

Faith would probably be the best idea for a spin-off. It would probably work best as "road show" with Faith and a small regular cast of maybe two or three others. Keep it tight and keep it moving. I think it's important to get the hell out of California. Give us some snow, some deserts, some Louisiana swamps. I want to see Faith flashing her ta-tas at Mardi Gras, kicking vampire ass in two feet of snow, prowling through dusty libraries in Arkham, Massachusettes. You get the idea.
I'd also like to see her with some kind of over-arcing mission that we haven't seen before, but she's still going to have to a vampire slayer since Buffy will likely die in the finale. (Speculation, not a spoiler, but considering Sarah's apparent attitude toward the show, it wouldn't surprise me to see her make a clean - and permanent - break). And if Buffy dies, Spike probably does, too.
If I wanted to lay some guesses, I'd say the cast would be like this:
Faith - Slayer on a mission
Kennedy - Female watcher and "failed" Slayer
Willow - Kennedy's girlfriend and witchy/magickal support
Andrew - filling the Xanderesque comic relief role, also would provide good tension with Willow
The Kennedy-as-watcher would probably work better if she were actually older than Faith, but I think we can assume that she spent more time around watchers and the council than Faith ever did.
Willow is a fan favorite and with Kennedy around, it would give both characters a reason to be there.
Andrew seems to getting a lot of exposure this season, so we can assume that he's being groomed for any sequel that might appear.
I don't see Xander really fitting into this kind of dynamic. His main attachment was to Buffy, and without her he has no real reason to be there. Also, he's established a life for himself in Sunnydale, which Willow hasn't really done.
Emma wants out after this season, so she's not really an option, but might pop up as an occasional guest star.
In a similar vein, they could also bump into Oz from time to time. He's willing to do TV guest spots (he was just on That 70s Show).
Dawn also wouldn't really fit in, I could almost see her staying with Xander after Buffy's death if she survives herslef.
Giles. Possible occasional guest star, again, providing he survives the finale. I could maybe see him starting up the Watcher's Council again. Since ASH has been put on recurring status, I don't think he wants to be a regular on an American series at this time. Keeping him alive also keeps the possibility of "Ripper" going, so I see him surving, especially if Buffy dies.

Remember Aftermash?
Hell, Buffy is even showing its age so why drag it on?
As the old saying goes, leave um wanting more.
This happens all too often in TV these days. You get a show like X-files or Seinfeld or even shows like Melrose Place and 90210. The network doesnt have any original ideas or new shows to put on (hello UPN and FOX) so they just keep throwing money to continue the old ones and the show suffers.Casts change, writers change and the show is but a memory of its old self.
This is what probably will happen if they go on another year and change the whole premise of the show or what the show once was.
So I find it interesting that people want the show to go on in another form.
Why not end it and remember the show as a good memory.

Coop. Why so negative about new ideas? I say let them try a spin off. What can it hurt?
Just because they made a series called Aftermash that turned out not to be very good, did not ruin the fact that M.A.S.H was a great show. In fact I do not think any less of any of the series that you mentioned just because they tried a spinnoff. Hell, if you never try anything, then nothing good will ever come. What if Joss had said, "Well, my buffy movie sucked, so I better not try it again." Then we would have been without 7 wonderful seasons of Buffy.
I say, give it a shot.

Hi,
well, the latest post-Buffy series rumor is in over at Dark Horizons. Now bearing in mind that it is a rumor, it makes a certain degree of sense. How does a Willow series sound? It would certainly allow the participation of Xander & Spike, provided both survive the end of Buffy and would be a logical place for Buffy to make a few guest appearances. Plus, everyone knows how much Joss Whedon loves Ms. Hannigan. TV's first series with a lesbian main character. I can hear the Catholic League now.

It better not be a series about Dawn. I wouldn't ever watch a series about her. Never liked her whiny character. Not even a real person. Just some stupid energy key. I'd love it if they offer her and reality went back to normal instead of the alternate universe BTVS has been in since Dawn arrived.

You beat me to the punch Nathan. I was just going to post the news.
That could be good IF the right people were involved behind the scenes.
You need good writers and a good creative team to keep up quality and thats the only way a show like this is going to be worth watching.

I would imagine one of the central themes would have to be controlling the "Dark Willow" aspect inside of her and her need for redemption.

"Willow" would debut with a lead lesbian character. And a Wiccan as well. Don't know how much wailing and gnashing of teeth we'll get from the God squad over this, though. Between all of the people running around naked on NYPB Blue and all of the OTTP gay stuff on "Will and Grace," I think they've pretty much given up.
One can hope.

Why not have a Spike spinoff where he loses he soul and becomes bad again. Maybe team him up with Drusilla again, and then everyonce in a while Faith or some other slayer can come and stop but not kill him when he has his big plans to take over the world. I think Spike and Dru had some of the best scenes during season 2 when they were bad.
