That said, I didn't really think her speech was very comedic...The best example of a great speech at the White House Correspondent's Dinner, see Stephen Colbert...That was topical, comedic, and scathing...

I was annoyed that people kept trying to argue that it was "mean-spirited" to go after Sarah Huckabee-Sanders. She tells lies at the podium every weekday, and I completely disagree with those that argued that Wolf was going after her appearance. If you tell lies with great frequency, you should be called out for it...and at least Wolf did that...I even thought she should've been more forceful and shown/cited some examples of Sanders lying at the podium...

And the fact that Dylan Farrow's story keeps getting embellished (such as adding the "toy trains" bit - something never claimed before and disputed by Moses Farrow) makes the accusations just look like a complete fabrication, or as the Yale-New Haven hospital concluded in their report
( their summary is online here: https://radaronline.com/wp-content/u...ital-allen.pdf ), a combination of the imagination of an emotionally distressed child and something Mia Farrow influenced her to say in order to get back at Woody Allen. (If you want to see just how weak the entire accusation is, read this: https://ronanfarrowletter.wordpress.com ).
The thing is Bill Maher has stated multiple times that he does NOT believe the allegations against Woody Allen. So the fact that his view is the opposite of Ronan Farrow's view is why I was surprised he didn't bring it up at all. But I guess he was just trying to be a nice host.

It was investigated at the time twice (by CT and NY) and found to be lacking in ANY evidence to back it up. Lack of evidence doesn't just mean lack of a case but also can mean an outright false accusation.

Frankly, I don't know the truth of the accusations.
All I know is the guy is creepy, and I wouldn't want him anywhere near my kids.

May 18th was a good show.
New Rules was sobering.
BM hit it right on the nail-head IMO.
I would bet serious $$$ he turns out to be right...

Was there not an Overtime segment for the May 18th show? It's not on the show's YouTube channel.

Show returns tomorrow night, August 3. Can't wait. I enjoyed his HBO standup special from Oklahoma from early July.

It's really hard to laugh or find any humor in the topics of discussion and what's said about them. To paraphrase the phrase, it would be laughable if it wasn't so deadly serious, disturbing and awful. All he can do is point out the hypocrisy to mock it and make fun of it. But at it's core, it's the opposite of funny to me.

His New Rule was on point - GOP is all about racism - trump won because of it and GOP are cool with Russia since they're so white.

Kinda expectin' some blowback to come Bill's way for his "It's not your place" comment to Michelle Goldberg during the New Rules segment. He was in the right though as NR is his "soapbox" segment, and she should have kept quiet and not provide rebuttal in the middle of it. However, that comment just sounded way wrong given she was advocating a #MeToo movement position. I'll be surprised if she shows up on his show again anytime soon.

Bill is a bigot but unfortunately there's no other liberal voice out there that has a platform quite like his.

Yeah, that was my take too as her son has some type of congenital developmental issues or something going on that she believes was caused by vaccine(s), and he was speaking out to support of her. Would he have done so on his own? Doubtful, imo.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread
Personally, I have to give some thought to how I feel about comedians. As a person raised on Lenny Bruce, Red Foxx, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, etc. I personally accept a lot of things. That doesn't mean they're acceptable, just that I accept them.
I heard a comedian joke recently, "Bill Clinton was back in the news reminding us of his Bro credentials. WTF was up with his late arrival to Aretha's funeral? I mean, even the black people were there on time."
It is perhaps less harmful than a joke that assumes Indians are (stupid?), and if they could succeed at running a casino, anyone (even Trump) should be able to. Besides not finding it particularly funny, it also wasn't funny because my logic popped up immediately and I thought Indians have significantly different rules about how their casinos are run. Reservations are not like the rest of the country.
But anyway, some segments of the population are definitely hypersensitive these days. I'm not personally, but I do try to pay attention to a very minor part of the outrage to see how I feel about it. Most times I just feel, "Oh come on," but occasionally I rethink my acceptance of something. I still give comedians a lot of leeway, though. I'm not ready to say Make Comedy Great Again, but let's just say I do get a certain nostalgic enjoyment watching I'm Dying Up Here.

Generally speaking, going to a reservation is incredibly depressing.
The observable poverty is heartbreaking.

I thought it was interesting that Bannon didn't come back for Overtime. I wonder if he got pissed at Bill's "history isn't gonna remember you kindly" statement at the end of his interview.
