Chris Christie & BridgeGate will probably be a big topic

Re: Real Time With Bill Maher (HBO) - Season 12 Thread

I saw Glenn Greenwald interviewed on CNN earlier today in light of Obama's speech today on data gathering. The guy believes that no mass collection of data should occur under any circumstances due to it being useless in the fight against terror. This despite being presented with a specific instance where terrorist attacks were thwarted because of having that data. He's one of many meatheads, imo who don't want to let the facts get in the way of their opinion.

Same here pretty much, and I'm fairly liberal. New Rules is great though (I often intentionally watch just the last 15 minutes of Maher's show). I think I got the biggest laugh when she showed a photo of an empty lot with a sign saying "This project funded by the US Government stimulus" he said, "New rule: Anytime I see this sign, I wanna see guys in hardhats building shit"

So I haven't seen a lot of Mary Matalin lately, but she was high on pain killers, right?

That was just cringe-worthy. It took down my enjoyment of the show.

That's why I mentioned it. Yeah, very awkward, and I was hoping for something good with the both of them on.

Re: Real Time With Bill Maher (HBO) - Season 12 Thread

Always have been and will be a fan of Bill, but I find these non-election cycle shows a bit tedious. The panel guests are overwhelmingly from the left, so they agree with Bill, and the show becomes a liberal echo chamber. Or he gets someone from the right (like Mary Matalin) and Bill is just annoyed and exasperated that they don't agree with him.

For some reason, Bill is much more interesting lately when he is a guest on someone else's show.

Dennis Miller is doing a daily radio show from his home. Wouldn't a weekly show with Dennis and Bill going at it for 30 minutes on politics (a la Siskel and Ebert or Pardon The Interruption) be great?

Her face looked much different like she had had cosmetic work done and it was still setting. Either that or extremely heavy make-up. Also, her speech and thoughts were a bit stunted.

Miller's gone insane and has no interest in having a rational discussion with anyone who has an opposing viewpoint. He's been enjoying his echo chamber too much.

Uhhh...maybe thats like 90% of people on TV who discuss politics? The only thing I saw from Maher on Friday nights epsiode was him rolling his eyes whenever someone disagreed with him (especially when Mary Matalin didn't agree with him about the Environment). If you are watching these shows for a good political debate, then you are wasting your time. (And that goes for republican and democrat leaning shows). To sum it up: Political Shows jumped the shark a long time ago!

The only reason I even tuned into Bill Maher on Friday night was my brother called me and said how looped up Mary Matalin was and how much a trainwreck she was on the show!

Is that the excuse they used? I thought it was pretty obvious she just had some more plastic surgery and her eyes were watering from her latest eye-tuck (which is prone to happen, I hear). I could be wrong, but I'd bet a nickel that's what it was. Don't disagree she was on medication, though.

It's funny you said that cause Carville's nickname is 'Serpent-Head' as Mary Matalin herself used to call him that all the time on political shows.

Since I never see Miller on TV anymore, I can't comment on how crazy he is. I do know he is a staunch global warming denier, which I can't stand to hear him talk about it.

I'd just like to see Bill challenged by someone quick-witted and dynamic, just to make it interesting. Perhaps I am just too nostalgic for Politically Incorrect, when watching Bill's show meant watching something funny.

I've been saying for years that the days of 'good discussion' on Political Shows are pretty much over, as EVERYONE now uses their shows as propaganda for their ideology. Whether it is FOX, MSNBC, Comedy Central with Jon Stewart and Colbert, and HBO with Maher, they all use their shows as platforms to preach to the choir.

It's a shame because I used to LOVE Maher's show (even back in the ABC days), but everyone on the left and right started circle the wagons around the 2008 election, and now these shows are pretty much unwatchable.

(Except when you get a drugged up Mary Matalin)

Damn...after reading all these comments I dont know why I was expecting a drugged up Marlee Matlin. Now THAT would've been interesting.

Oh god, Howard Dean...that guy is a genuine 100 percent phony (at least as far as politics is concerned - I won't question his medical license). I saw him and Karl Rove debate once, and came off liking Rove much better...that should tell you something about Dean.
