Beating up Marcus would be like beating up a 7 year old girl.

From what they played last night, aren't both Julia and Kimberly in the first group? I thought that it was kind of odd that both would be in the first group of 8. But then I don't see her in that picture, unless she's the girl in the bottom left.

This is truly train wreck television. My wife and I taped both Tuesdays and Wednesday's episodes, and decided to watch the first one last night. Ended up watching all of it.

They do a good job of finding storylines, and then running with it. I don't really thing Julia waited until past midnight for her group. The sister coming in didn't help things at all, but things were patched up. I really didn't see them all that mad at each other afterwards, though they played it up like they were jealous and saw each other as a threat.

Fox could've opted for something utterly boring, by making it fair and making sure everyone got some face time. Instead they crafted storylines out of the little things that happened, and edited it all together. The bad part is that unlike, say, Survivor, where it doesn't really matter what the viewing public gets to see in terms of who survives, the fans vote on this show, and the editing plays a huge part in what the fans see.

As an aside... are they changing the voting this year? I'm presuming that they're going with 4 groups of 8, picking 2 from each group, and then filling out the top 10 with 2 judges picks. But did they update the phone system? Last year, you could phone in as many times as you wanted. In fact, there was an unsubstantiated rumor that Nicky made it so far because some computer geeks were using their computers to dial the number over and over.

I think the new Sideshow Bob is one of the most talented guys they have up there. Apparently the judges agreed because he stunk it up after partying all night. His first audition singing the Jackson 5 song really stuck out from the rest. I hope he gets his head straight and takes it more seriously now. He has to know he was on the bubble. I'd say "Hercules" needs to knock that bit off because it's so annoying, but it will probably get him some votes.

I think the one with the best shot at winning the whole thing at this point is Julia Demato. She's got one of the better voices, amazing rack and being a hairdresser she's probably a better dresser than the rest of them.

The thing about Julia Demato is that she seems old, like in the "Sheryl Crow" mode, not possessing a sunny, young disposition that helps you for AI. But she's got a killer rack.

I'm fine with her looking more mature than the others. And would gladly take her over that biatch Kimberly. This might have been discussed in another AI thread (but haven't read them all), my co-worker said Kimberly was on another show recently. "Pop Stars" (??) Is that true? He said both he and his wife thought for sure they saw her on that show and that she was kind of a bitch there as well. If that is her....

Whoa! Just went on the AI webpage, and didn't realize that for the next 4 weeks, there will be 8 singers and only 2 from each flight go on to make the final 10 (2 must be "at-large" bids by the judges).

I looked at all the contestants, and I keep going back to Candice Coleman as my dark horse pick, but I don't have anything to go by on many of the contestants that are in the final 32, perhaps only 12 of them I've heard sing.

Okay - first off I'd like to be the one to give Fenchie some props! SHE was ultimately the one who settled the bickering in the Kimberly/Julia squabble. She stood up and said "Listen you're only hurting your own chances by acting this way ... so work together or neither of you will make it." I think that was very cool of her... she was right and in fact by calming them down was hurting her own chances. I mean she could have egged them on and all four would have been dismissed!

Marcus was also being a little beotch. Of course he was really young (like 14) while the other dude was of drinking age. The ridiculous thing about the whole going out was that so many of the contestants weren't and didn't LOOK of age to go drinking anyway. That said, what a bunch of inconsiderate a-holes! I mean it'd be one thing if you screw yourself over, but each of them was screwing their partners as well. If you wanna do it up, WIN. There'll be plenty of time for that crap when you get kicked off!

GO FRENCHIE! My local gal!

GuessWho's fave AI2 chicks (18+ age so I don't feel dirty)

What other talents do you have?
Dancing and flexibility.

OK, one spectacular girl and two so-so/do-ables... not a good AI year

Those 2 big black girls who sang "Band Of Gold" really have great voices but Simon doesn't like the way they look!!

I doubt the public will look beyond that either!. I can just picture all those horny 13 yrs olds calling in voting for the blond chick Kimberly or the other emotional one!

I agree the brunette waitress might be a dark horse..She comes in under the radar but can really sing and looks good...

Wasn't Kelly Clarkson last year serving waffles too b4 she got her big break on AI??

Does this mean there's lots of undiscovered talen at your local diner??...

As much as I love Kimberly Caldwell and her flexibility... her page answers more than once that her fave song is "Opportunity" by Eminem...

The song is called "Lose Yourself"

Get it right, babe

ooohhhh her-ca-leaz her-ca-leaz!!

- It was hilarious how Paula was all upset about telling those people they are going home. How she ran out of the room. She needs an Emmy nod.

- The black dude who went to party and was saying he doesn't need to practice really got on my nerves. He was a Sisqo wanna be, and he ain't even good!

- That Corey is one ugly dude!

- The Rocker was pretty Rockless.

- That one black dude who was arguing with that white frat boy really needs to go into gay porn...I mean...really.

- Simon is cool.

- yes this AI is seriously lacking on eye candy.

The only hot chick is Kimberly (is that her name) the blonde one?

The other girl in her group who made it has this weird nose. That doesn't fit her face. Nice titties though.

So far I'm pulling for Candice Coleman. While they haven't featured her very much, she had a very interesting sound in her very first audition - kinda like a Hope Sandoval type sound to her. Plus she's kinda cute.

Also, I think the producers of the show have already biased the audience towards particular contestants. They spent way too much time focusing on Julia Demato, Kimberly Caldwell, and Frenchie for example. On the last show, for the female group presentations, they only showed 2 of them. Other contestants they basically have totally ignored. Its like they are creating their own Buzz for their favorites to try to give them an extra edge. Kinda lame if you ask me.

Don't believe the hype. She was actually out in LA doing some preliminary recordings with a production team before she flew back to Texas to do the American Idol audition.

Apparently that was against AI rules - you're supposed to be strictly amateur etc.

Those rumours of Kelly Clarkson having a recording contract before american idol aren't true. She had just recorded 4 demo songs which were covers of already existing songs. The People who brought up these rumours are just trying to stir up some trouble so don't believe them.

I agree with Jeraden. The girl I was talking about in the previous Idol thread, Rebecca Bond, who won the local FOX contest to get a guaranteed audtion, was never shown during the auditrion process. And they only showed her a couple times last night, one of which was when she messed up the words to a song when she was singing with her group and sang poorly. Personally, I don't think she should have gotten the shot to go to L.A. because the girl she beat was a hell of a lot better but since she made it to the final 32 she should have at least had her name said before next weeks voting.

Bring on the bad singing. Myself, I don't care for the drama. The "I'm pissed because you guys stood me up when we should have been rehearsing" or "if you hadn't partied all night, we wouldn't be in this mess" kind of crap.

Anyone else notice there is a 50/50 split between the number of girl and boy singers? I think some of the guys took some of the slots that could have gone to better girl singers.

I am hoping that Kimberly's bitchiness gets held against her in the voting. Last year, they didn;t really show much drama between the contestants so it will be interesting to see how the voting public reacts.

I also don't think she is that pretty up close. She has a rough-looking face-- something about her reminds me of a drag queen. Maybe it's because she wears so much makeup and her eyebrows are plucked very severely.

I don't find KimC all that attractive either. She's got small eyes, and wears too much eye make-up trying to make them appear bigger. But if she can sing, and grow up a little, you just never know.

Here's some monikers that may help those unfamiliar with the show so far relate in some way to the contestants. This is not a complete list, but works for the ones that stand out. Sorry... I had to get this out of my system..

GI Joe, Bitch, Nel, Hercules, SideshowBobII (aka Jacko5), The Nutty Professor and Rocker dude

I'm sure most viewers know who I am referring to. Any more you can think of?
