Around the (annoying) Horn

So the ads for the new ESPN talkie show Around the Horn have me wondering how they could have possibly chosen someone more annoying than mr. Boo YA!! Who is that guy? I seem to remember seeing him talk about boxing at some point and couldn't believe how inane and annoying he came off. And now he gets his own show? Hopefully this'll get knocked out in the 1st round.....

Max Kellerman? He's pretty knowledgable when it comes to boxing, but he's very biased and arrogant. Seems like the perfect guy to host a show like this.

OK - this show sucks. They have a bunch of idiots on there acting like they know what the hell they're talking about. They're also not funny. PTI works because TK and Wilbon acknowledge that they really are clueless about stuff, and they top it off with strong humor.

They get a bunch of writers bitching that the BCS is flawed because Miami is #3. Hello?!? They wouldn't be #3 if you jackasses hadn't voted them #2 in the AP. I'm constantly amazed how little sports writers actually pay attention to the sports they cover.

So how do you get points on this show? Stroke Kellerman's ego? I thought this show was going to be about fans from different parts of the country not annoying self-absorbed writers kissing up to Kellerman. The Sports Reporters gives us good sportswriter time without all the annoyance. I don't see the point of this show. It's more annoying than Chris Connelly's show that previously occupied the spot.

I like Max Kellerman - he was pretty good when he filled in for Kornheiser during his 'vacation.' This show is just too fast paced and certainly rips off the PTI format to an extent. The way that they were promoting the show, I thought it was going to be normal fans discussing sports (like das thought) - not another show with writers. I think a show with fans would be better.

BTW, did anyone catch the halftime PTI during MNF last night.

I kinda enjoyed it, though I only caught the first episode (I generally get home from work just in time for PTI). It's no PTI, but I didn't think it was bad.

How could you misunderstand the premise of the show? It's advertised as "sports experts" discussing.

They had a show on one evening a week around 7:30 that had fans doing a round table type discussion show. Only lasted a few weeks.

I remember that show. I saw it back-to-back with Sports Reporters II at like 1:00 am or something. Talk about a painful hour.

They're just trying to bank off PTI as much as possible. Some of it I like, some I don't. The points thing is cool, but it just seems like a joke more than anything important.

But still, it's one episode so far, hopefully it gets better.

I remember the original promos with Max pointing and saying the sports fans here say the sports fans there know jack about sports....

You must've missed his Larry Merchant impersonation.

I kinda like the show, have only seen it once.

It's no PTI! Doesn't even touch it.
