The Official FARSCAPE Cancellation Thread
Well, given that the original thread has hit 9 pages and 200+ posts, I'm sure it will be closed soon for size. I figured I'd give us a fresh start and begin a new thread.
Please refer to the original thread for hundreds of interesting posts, expressing our frustration, dedication, and joy of being a part of such a wonderful show:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=235083
Please continue discussion about the cancellation and revival efforts here. Let's get our "5th of Farscape".

I read there is talk about making Farscape a syndicated show. That would be cool if Farscape can be shown on a broadcast station since a lot of people don't have sci fi channel.

The Sci-Fi Channel is dead to me.

Taken can suck my nuts. USA2 was dead to me when they canned I-Man. Now they're the undead, and I will endeavor to help facilitate their extermination in any way possible.

I usually don't get involved in things like this, but I'm taking a stand this time... I too am boycotting the Sci-Fi Channel. I haven't watched the channel since the last episode of Farscape and -- other than the remaining 11 Farscape episodes -- I won't watch the channel.
When TAKEN is done with das, it can come over here and suck my nuts. I won't be watching.

They havent budged have they?

Well, here's some good news.

Sci Fi Holds On To STARGATE
After initially facing an uncertain future after moving from syndication to the Sci Fi Channel, SFC has decided to renew STARGATE SG-1 for another season and they have retained Richard Dean Anderson as the lead. "Stargate fans are everywhere," Sci Fi president Bonnie Hammer said. "The ratings prove it. We are delighted to renew SG-1 for a new season. Clearly the show has done phenomenally well for SCI FI, both with original and acquired episodes, and we look forward to another record-breaking year." The show has broken ratings records for the channel in both reruns and in new episodes. Production will begin in early 2003 on 22 new episodes for a summer bow.

Heh ... did they re-announce it? I remember a few days after we figured out they canned Farscape, they made a similar announcement, and fans immediately told them to shove SG-1 up their asses. I wonder if they pulled back on the announcement in hopes things would die down and the accusation "Farscape was cancelled to pay for SG-1" would go away.

Sci-Fi is one screwed up channel that I'll never watch again. They cancel Farscape and replace it with another hour of Stargate SG1. A couple of weeks later, they cancel that hour and put in another show, In Search Of. Wasn't that show in the 70s with Leonard Nemoy hosting it? What are they showing now?

Ive given SG1 many trys and I cant get into it.
To think they cancelled Farscape and left this on the air is beyond me.
So what has become of the fights?
The furor over the cancellation seems to have died down and Sci Fi never budged.

The timeslot is changing
I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else, but buried in this story about the new Tremors show is news that the timeslot for Farscape is changing:
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-m...1/18/12.30.sfc
Tremors Debuts Jan. 10
The SCI FI Channel announced that Tremors: The Series, a new original weekly show based on the popular SF movies, will premiere at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Jan. 10, 2003, where it will become part of the network's SCI FI Friday block of original series. The show's premiere will coincide with the return of new episodes of Farscape, in a new 8 p.m. timeslot, and Stargate SG-1, at 9 p.m.

I had almost forgotten that I had the Sci-Fi Channel when I came across it last week. I wish the network well when the last 11 Farscape episodes air and people stop watching.
Cause Tremors and SG-1 should draw NBC like numbers!

Farscape News according to the Save Farscape Campaign
I Am Farscape TV Commercial
What began as a simple idea posted by KimRB in the “Do It Yourself Media” thread, then morphed into a proof-of-concept video posted by Beowulf at http://homepage.mac.com/beowulf/fars...heater30.html, is now a “Realized Reality” through the efforts of the entire Scaper community.
The “I Am Farscape” television commercial, http://homepage.mac.com/~beowulf/iamfarscape/, was completed by Beowulf in late October and duped onto beta sp tapes (a standard format in the TV industry), in early November by KimRB. Many of the tapes are already in the hands of cable TV companies across American, with the rest arriving soon.
Originally targeted at 15 US cities, the "Do It Yourself Media" team found that, after funding was approved by the FWA, they could afford 16 cities. Then Scapers Loco2, Akimbo, and Kithylara stepped up to sponsor airing the commercial in their respective cities, Lexington (KY), Cleveland (OH), and San Diego (CA), bringing the target city total to 19. Everyone was floored when Dominar of Action volunteered to add five more cities (Tampa, FL; Salt Lake City, UT; Detroit, MI; Pittsburgh, PA; Minneapolis, MN), upping the ante to 24 cities! The commercial will air in the following 24 cities the week of November 24:
Atlanta, GA
Boston, MA
Chicago, IL
Cleveland, OH
Dallas, TX
Denver, CO
Detroit, MI
Hartford, CT
Houston, TX
Lexington, KY
Los Angeles, CA
Miami, FL
Minneapolis, MN
New York, NY
Philadelphia, PA
Phoenix, AZ
Pittsburgh, PA
Salt Lake City, UT
San Diego, CA
San Francisco, CA
Seattle, WA
St. Louis, MO
Tampa, FL
Washington DC
In many of those cities, the ad may air only once, and it may be in the middle of the night on an undisclosed channel. But that’s okay, because the goal of this project is to draw mainstream media attention to our cause. Toward that end, at the same time as the commercial tapes were being produced and shipped, Scapeartist and the FWA PR crew worked with the “Do It Yourself Media” folks to craft a killer press release to announce the airing of this first ever fan-produced, fan-funded television commercial.
On November 17, Scapers came together to stuff and address 200 packets containing the press release and a video CD of the commercial and all 22 of the individual web spots from http://homepage.mac.com/~beowulf/farswitch/. This packet is now on its way to the leading national television news organizations, and to local television news stations in the 24 target cities. And now, in the final stage of this epic effort, the Scaper community is once again coming together to mail the press release to print and radio media all across America.
So mark the week of November 24th on your calendar, and keep your eyes and ears peeled for stories about this effort which may appear in your local newscasts, newspapers, and on local radio. Have a blank video tape ready to capture stories that may appear on local newscasts in your area. And finally, keep checking back here for breaking news as Scapers write a new page in science fiction fan history!

A Wee Bit O’ FARSCAPE News! Don't Give Up Yet!!
Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
FARSCAPE fans, I’ll give you this... you are devoted. I’m going to be reviewing Season One of FARSCAPE as part of next week’s special edition of my DVD column, so I’m just now getting caught up as to what all the fuss is about. I know you were upset by this year’s cancellation of the show, but there’s a glimmer of hope in this tidbit that was just submitted by a first-time spy...
Word from Gigi Edgley (Chiana) and Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun), among others, at the official Farscape convention in New York on the 29th and 30th of this past month is that there is a strong possibility of a Farscape motion picture, and/or a four-parter. Black joked that in a film, it would probably be Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts playing John and Aeryn, to which the audience booed. Also in attendance were Wayne Pygram (Scorpius), Anthony Simcoe (D'Argo) and Virginia Hey (Zhaan). Black also said that exec. producer David Kemper says he found a way to "finish" Farscape with what was shot without actually "ending" it, hinting that it leaves room to finish the story later on...to which the audience cheered.

Note: I'm commenting on Moriarty, not you, coop.
This really isn't news. DK said a few months ago that there was a very strong possibility of a 4-part miniseries or telefilm during a radio interview with the fans. However, neither he nor the fan campaign to save the show want that unless it's the absolute last resort. They've written 22 episodes under contract from The Taken Network for a 5th season. They should get to tell that story.
I too am happy about the fallback plan that's been in place since this mess came about, but I don't see it as something we're ready to give up and accept just yet even if Moriarty is just now getting around to hearing about it. It's cool that he's spreading the word, but nothing has really changed in our level of success/failure.

I found these other comments on Aint it cool that really put it into words :
No More Sci Fi on Sci Fi
Comment: It is clear that science fiction fans are no longer the target audience of the Sci Fi Channel. Ever since it became the place to watch Alien Autopsy, John Edwards, Sightings, Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, Sci Fi Happens and other "reality"-based fare, I can only assume that the target demographic is lowest-common-denominator, slope-browed, paste-eating morons. With the exception of reruns of Babylon 5 and Star Trek, and who hasn't seen them yet, there is little on the channel that can be classified as science fiction and nothing that is even remotely worth watching. This includes Taken, which is clearly aimed at the aforementioned UFO-believing paste eaters. Most of my friends don't boycott the channel, we just find that there is nothing worth bothering with anymore. And I am sad to say that Sci Fi probably won't miss us, or anyone else on this message board. They have made a conscious decision to appeal to a different kind of viewer. Time to move on, I guess.

The Death of Sci-Fi is here (notify the USA Network shareholders and avertisers)
Comment: I am seeing, what appears to me, to be the beginning of the end for the Sci-Fi channel. The first clue was canning Farscape. While it may not have been a ratings powerhouse, it was arguably one of the most creative shows on television – and elevated the SciFI genre far beyond it’s peers. The show was perceived as the fledgling channel’s flagship show and, when combined with it’s on-air identity, really got folks pumped-up about the SCIFI brand. I wish more conglomerates understood the power of a franchise beyond it’s initial ratings. The second clue is the channels reaction to John Edwards and it’s new-show-to-be “The Dream Team with Annabelle and Michael”. These are shows that are cheap to produce, attract a strong female audience – if not skew heavy female – and get ratings. Despite the fact that these shows are only marginally related to “science fiction/fantasy” etc. and are better suited aired on it’s USA sister channel – belies the fact that they are polluting what made the Sci-Fi channel so strong to begin with and what gives these shows such strong lead-ins. The third clue is the new on-air ID and identity spots currently running. I speak from experience here, as I am a broadcast designer who has done some high profile work as well as sit-in on the meetings where the politics of changing something as momentous as a logo are in full-play. First let me say this: The new logo is clunky and horrible and the new spots that I have seen are mostly insipid and mushy. Everyone I know in the Broadcast Design/ID business has for years been in agreement with me when I say “SciFi has the best, most innovative broadcast design on the planet. No contest”. The work now looks like it was designed by a committee and not a visionary. What’s particularly telling is the new logo. Why on earth change the logo? The old logo is far superior to the ham-fisted hack-job logo they now use. The only thing I can think of, and if anyone has any information on this I’d love to hear it, is that “new management” came in and wanted to put their stamp on everything. The whole “If it ain’t broke – I’m gonna fix it anyway ‘cause im the new person!” seems pretty strong here. In conclusion, SCIFI is trading Farscape for John Edwards and in the process losing its soul. Instead of watching a particular show, I would watch “SCIFI” - I don’t do that anymore, I pick and choose from a rapidly shrinking pool of shows I want to see. And the shows that do remain could be as easily shown on many other, less distinct, channels. I’m sure “The Dream Team” would do just as well on VH1. So sad to see you go SCIFI, it was fun while it lasted.
