AJ is still going to the military school, isn't too interested in having to read the New York Times (his mother found a big stack of them in his room).
Spoiler:
Is it a military school? I thought that once AJ had his fainting spells last year, they decided he couldn't handle the pressure of military school. I think he's merely at a different private school.

Spoiler:
Pauli's in jail. He and some other guy got pulled over, and before you know it, the cop find a .38 that was the weapon in an unsolved crime. Pauli calls Johnny Sacks to bail him out. We don't know if Johnny can pull those strings (or if he intends on helping Pauli).
Spoiler:
When Tony had the sitdown with his captains, my first thought was "Where's Paulie!?!" Then they showed where he was. One thing I didn't understand -- was Paulie really asking Johnny to bail him out? It seemed like Johnny set up the call through Tony (or Tony's man, since Tony won't talk directly to Paulie while Paulie is in the can), but either way, they talked about nothing for two minutes. I know you can only say so much on a jailhouse phone, but really ...

Spoiler:
Ralphie and his wife were invited to Tony's place for dinner because it was the wife's birthday (Carmella's parents are there, as is Janice). The wife (Roe?) is on medication and basically zoned out. During dinner, Adriana and Danielle show up to pick up something, and Danielle finally meets Tony (who shows the obvious interest in lovely woman). Ralphie goes to the bathroom to snort some cocaine and Janice finds a way to get Ralphie to let her in to do a line to two. Before you know it, Ralphie and Janice are doing each other in the bathroom.
Spoiler:
It's funny, but I watched Season 3 last week, and in the last episode, as everyone's listening to Uncle Jun sing, I noticed that Janice was all over Ralphie. I thought nothing of it, but then in the "Last Season On The Sopranos" montage before this week's episode, they showed that clip again, and I thought "hmmmm..." Looks like my instincts were right!

Speaking of "Last Season On The Sopranos," did anybody notice that neither Noah Tannenbaum nor Gloria Trillo showed up in the montage, which hopefully means neither will be coming back this season. On the other hand, they didn't show anything about the business with the Russians, which is too bad, because I'd love to see some repurcussions from Paulie's trip to the Pine Barrens.

Spoiler:
Tony almost all but spills the beans to his shrink, but he basically outlines where he's going (in this season) which is to fold back into trusting only family (Christopher being tapped as Tony's right hand man after putting him through some trials to make sure he's "okay" and has the right stuff.)
Spoiler:
It was fascinating. Tony is almost using Melfi as a confessor. He can't go to his priest -- that's just not Tony's style, plus Father Phil is a total dork -- so he confesses to his shrink. I think that on some level, he regrets what he is doing to Christopher.

With Danielle getting so close to Adrianna as Tony brings Christopher further into the fold, I wonder if it's all going to come crashing down around Tony. Like he said, there's usually only two places the top guys wind up ....

That's what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure Tony scrapped the military school plan last season when it was discovered that AJ has panic attacks too.

Bacala: You know Quasimodo predicted all this.

Tony: Who did what?

Bacala: All these problems...the middle east...the end of the world.

Tony: Nostradamus. Quasimodo's the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Bacala: Oh right...Notradomis

Tony: Nostrodomis...and Notre Dame...it's two different things completely.

Bacala: It's interesting though they'd be so similar isn't it? Ya know, I always thought o.k. Hunchback of Notre Dame...you also got your quarterback and your halfback of Notre Dame.

Tony: One's a ****ing cathedral

Bacala: Obviously, I know, I'm just saying. It's interesting the coincidence. What, you're gonna tell me you've never pondered that...the back thing with Notre Dame?

Tony: No.

I had forgetten about AJ not hacking it in military school. They weren't too specific in the school AJ goes to now, (but it sounded like many strings were pulled to get him into the school he now attends).

In the recap of Season 3 they showed a clip of Carmela talking about a "psychological" school for troubled kids.

Was Chris set up?

thats the question, does Tony want Chris to do all the dirty work because he can only trust him or was that really the guy that killed his father?

AJ is definitely not in military school. For one thing, he wouldn’t be home and for another, Tony wouldn’t have to pull string one to get him into the academy. They just got him into a different school and he’s still screwing around. I see his character as a contrast to Meadow’s in that he is (maybe in the back of his mind) glad that he can fall back on his family’s powerful status and consequently doesn’t feel that he needs to put forth anything.

Beside the Quasimodo joke (which had me and my roommate both rolling) I really liked the subtle one from Chris.

“He was carryin’ a crib for me?”

“Well, it was TV trays, but it coulda been a crib.”

-then later

“He was carryin’ a TV tray for me to watch TV on!”

This show has some of the best humor in the midst of everything. It so deserves its good ratings.

adding:

"D'ya think this stuff grows on trees?"

"Ice?!? Tone?"

My Thoughts on the whole Paulie thing:

When Paulie was talking to Johnny Sacks on the phone, he said that when he was pulled over they found a gun from an unsolved murder from 8 years ago under the seat. Says he wont be able to get out until after the trial or if someone else confesses to the murder. Johnny Saks had a grin on his face the whole time.

I think that that Paulie got set up by Johnny and the "New York Family" but that they will get him out to win his loyalty. I think that they are setting things up for a war between the two families.

I liked Carmine's (NY boss) comment before leaving the hotel.

"A Don doesn't wear shorts"

Should be an interesting season.

I got the impression that something is going on with Furio and Tony's wife, or at least that Carm. likes Furio. In one of the first scenes, they're in the kitchen and they hear the front door shut. Expecting it to be Furio, Carm. gets up and fixes her hair in the reflection of the mirror. Then she looks disappointed when it's only Chris. She then asks two or three questions about where Furio is.

Also, Paulie is in Youngstown, Ohio, which is pretty far away from Tony and his connections.

Also, I'm pretty sure Ralph and Ro (Jackie Aprile's widow) are only dating, not married. I think he lives with her.

You are correct.

It is also correct that AJ is NOT in a military school. After his panic attack when trying on his uniform, Tony told Melfi that they had to scrap those plans.

I believe that when all is said and done, and we look back on the 5 years, we'll realize this was NOT a story about Tony Soprano. it'll be the story of the rise of a low level lackey to made man to BOSS.

This is Christoper's story.

BTW, how come it took 4 seasons to let us know what the inside of Tony's poolside building looks like?

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that scene last night.

Nice to see all the family back, like the guy in the cnn article said everytime someone walked into the scene, it was kind of like cheers where you wanted to shout out "norm".

Just like seeing all your old friends back together again.

This was the usual foundation laying episode, and I expect things to jump up a gear for next week's episode.

Janice still annoys the bejesus out of me, those grating characters I hate... I see christopher getting deeper into the drugs although I would have thought after seeing the light that he would know better.

anyway so glad that it's back on tv..
