I liked the season finale, though it didn't make sense to me at the end
Spoiler:
when the reverend said Johnny joined their cause and Johnny came on out to join hands with the reverend and Stillson - why on earth would Johnny want to endorse Stillson? He made fun of Stillson earlier in the episode when he first saw him on a debate, and already doesn't trust him.

Anyway, the ads for the season finale (which I watched AFTER the broadcast because of spoilers ) were totally misleading. Warning, spoilers on how I felt the episode didn't live up to the teaser ad, so details about the actual show are rampant.
Spoiler:
There wasn't a showdown and there weren't answers to all of the questions as to what has been going on with Johnny. We already knew about the bump on the head being the first conduit into his dead zone, since he "knew" things ever since then. We already speculated that he has his gift because of a higher power/fate/destiny/meant to help others/etc. - and they just voiced those same speculations. We were already on the fence about whether the reverend is truly on Johnny's side or not, and I for one am still on the fence, as sometimes his actions/words seem great, and at other times he seems to be manipulating Johnny for his own ends. We already knew Johnny and Sarah were still in love but fighting their feelings - cheating just makes them mean - decide what you want and follow through to minimize the pain to the third person in the love triangle.

So where were the advertised "answers to all your questions?" and the "showdown?" Well, it's a cliffhanger of course, so the rest of the showdown will be next season, but the teaser definitely implied you'd know it all by the end of the finale, not the beginning of next season's opener. And there were NO answers - just speculations and guesses, just as there were all along. Don't get me wrong - I thought the episode was great and I prefer the lack of "answers." I'm also fine with it being a two-parter and having to wait until the season opener to find out the end of the showdown. My point is just that the teaser ad implied otherwise, which I find deceptive and annoying. That type of misleading ad in combination with spoilers is the exact reason I don't watch teasers before watching the show.

Actually a lot of stuff was answered-but there were new questions. What finale would it be without some sort of cliffhanger

The biggest thing answered

Spoiler:
was the reason Johnny had the accident, and then why he awoke with his powers. When he was younger after he banged his head on the ice, he had a vision of the nuclear nightmare when stillson and his father came to his mothers house to sell that bible. Then he had the car accident while Stillson was in town , and right after the accident stillson passed by the accident site. Then years later Johnny woke up at the exact moment Stillson was being sworn in. Purdy was right in that Johnny got his power for a reason. Johnny got his power to stop Stillson from ruining everything. Every single thing he has done since he got his power has helped prepare him for the time ahead and for him to learn what his powers are capable of. Then he joined Purdy and Stillson to be close to what Stillson does. Its the old keep your friends close, but your enemies closer routine

Ok, Capt - I'll buy that, especially since I was making dinner while watching so I didn't see all of that. Did they say that stuff and my hearing is shot or was it visual (didn't "see" several parts of the ep). Either way, guess I'll have to dedicate a good 44 minutes to it if it repeats.

Edit to explain the only images of all those you described that I saw were
Spoiler:
Johnny getting the image of washington d.c. burning when touching Stillson both times, as a kid and as an adult.
The rest of the connections you mentioned would be very interesting to see, and would improve the episode tremendously, not to mention negating my point of that question not being answered.

And this basically goes back to the roots of the original Dead Zone film, does it not? This season just expanded upon Johnny's experiences up until now, where he'll have to figure out how to short circuit Stillson's political aspiration without destroying himself (and his loved ones) in the process.

Never saw the original film, never read the book. So there was never any back story in my head or plot I already knew. But I'm glad to hear that the series is bringing everything full circle, back to the source material.

This is one of those shows that should be stupid and cheesy but somehow isn't. I'm not sure if Piller is the reason or Hall or a combination of many factors, but for whatever reason, it doesn't suck and is actually quite good.

I'm not sure I like how quickly they threw Johnny into his mental tailspin. It was only last week that we had the Shaman thing, and now he's gone all "don't talk to me" on us? I understand the motivation, it just seems rushed.

Anyway, the ads were most definitely misleading and the episode seemed a waste for me. Not because they didn't cover some ground, just that they needed to cover more. This should have been a two-hour episode that ended on a cliff-hanger. As it was, it seemed like they just rushed through a bunch of stuff to get us to this point. That's fine though ... now we're here.

As long as it remains on USA and doesn't move to USA2, I'll continue to watch it next season.

Yeah, I'm surprised about it myself. I thought it was going to be really bad, and had no interest in watching it. Against all odds it's turned out to be a pretty good show, and Anthony Michael Dining Hall has turned out to be a pretty good actor, although there are times when he has this constipated look on his face that doesn't seem appropriate.

Never watched the show until the Dead Zone marathon, and now I'll be catching the shows I missed. Way better than I thought.
