Has anyone watched the new "Family Affair" on the WB?

Has anybody here wached this series starring Gary Cole and Tim Curry as "Mr.French"? What are people's thoughts on this show? How does it compare to the orginal version that was on TV in the 1960's?

There was nothing else on at the time, so my television landed on it by default.

It was sort of pathetic. I mean, I think the show was filmed, so why was there a laugh track? Even worse, they seemed to pause for the laugh track, like in the Simpsons Spinoff Showcase.

I liked the show and thought it was funny but I also like Reba. My mom said the new show is funnier than the other one but she thinks Tim Curry is funny.

I saw it, I was at my neighbors house and they wanted to watch it...I dunno, I never watched the original...but the dad, (cole) was cool, because he was in Office Space...I am not a Tim Curry fan though...I doubt I will watch much more of it though...Isn't Buffy supposed to slay vampires?

I was curious also (in addition to there being nothing else on) because ever since 1985 I've sort of had a thing for Tim Curry. His role was to be expected, a watered-down version of what he did in Clue, the only semi laughs that the show got out of me was when the older daughter came in. I was also annoyed by the laugh track.

The pilot was very similar to the pilot for the original series. The main thing that the new version is going to have to overcome is that the children seemed to be acting and had no charm. The older sister was especially awful.

I don't think the original series was a major classic, but at least the kids were likeable and charming, at least in the beginning.

I was kind of surprised they used the same music and opening titles sequence idea as the original did.

Overall it was pretty bad. Against FRIENDS, I think it will sink quickly.

Finally got around to watching this one.

There aren't three more annoying, yet strangely likeable, children in all of television history than the original Buffy, Jody, and Sissy (no, not even Raven Simone).

I'm really not sure what to think of this remake so far. The original series had one unmistakeably indentifiable trait: the camera pause. Uncle Bill would deliver his line, and there'd be a half second pause as the camera would switch to Mr. French, then another half second lead-in and finally Mr. French would respond. I can safely say I've seen every episode of the original at least three times, and I never got used to that.

It seems like this time around the oddity is the laugh track. It's so horribly out of place and somewhat reminiscent of when ABC forced Sorkin to put an unnecessary laugh track into SportsNight. There's also a definite "shift" in the character of French.

I honestly don't know how I'll feel, but out of television nostalgia, I'll continue to watch for a while. The first 20 minutes or so were pretty loathsome, but as I continued to watch it wasn't that bad. This first episode is obviously the set-up, so I'll give it a few real episodes before making up my mind.

Gotta wonder what crazed mind thought this was the show to bring back to television ... oh yeah, it's the Kroffts ... how strange is it to have them returning to television?
