Is it broadcast more exciting when it's live?
Excluding the news, I can't remember the last time I saw a "live" broadcast, since I live on the West Coast. American Idol, the "Survivor" finale, the award shows, they are all "previously recorded".
Actually, I think the Oscars are live in the West Coast, which is nice, but that's the only award show that I can remember that it live on both coasts.
So, what do you think? Is your viewing experience somehow better knowing what you are watching is actually occuring at the exact same time?
I personally don't have a preference between live and pretaped shows. The MTV Movie Awards are pre-taped, and that's fine with me.

I think it definitely is. You feel that you are part of something significant due to it being live. If not, it would be taped. You know everyone involved has to be on their toes and that no matter how big a star you are, they aren't going to do another take just because you messed up. This is why SNL is so popular.
Think about sports, like the NFL. I wouldn't want to watch a taped game, I want to watch it live. Something about knowing that the outcome is already determined just isn't right. The moment is lost and I'm no longer part of the event. That's when you truly become only a spectator.

yes. I live on the west coast, and usually everything is pre-taped. so when seeing something live it's always a better feel considering knowning a bit of how much hard work and effort it takes to do something live, I enjoy it more.

I think there's sometimes something interesting about an event that cannot be edited, but I don't care if it's live or taped or TiVo'd or Memorex. SNL is still "live" whether I watch it live or six weeks later. It makes no difference to me. Unless there's some participatory aspect that requires my involvement at the same time as the performers, a "live" event that is tape-delayed by 3 hours for the West Coast would be just as "live" as if I were watching it on the East Coast.
