Would a Planet of the Apes tv series work-today?

I am watching the early 70's POTA tv series(which only lasted half-a-season) and I was wondering that this might do well now.Done right w/the right budget(not low budget) and I am sure it would do better than half of the useless tv shows that populate prime time.

How would you do it though

Have a human from "our time" keep one step ahead of the apes?

I would pick it up where the movie from last year ended.

This type of show would need a big budget....the type of budget that is unreasonable for most shows. And it'd probably end up in the shitty syndicated TV block in between Mutant X and Beastmaster, meaning certain death.

Seriously though....it just seems like this wouldn't be a good idea. not that anything that came after the original POTA was a good idea.
