I am so going to vote for Justin. He is amazing. The first time he auditioned he just had this look in his eye.

And then when he sang last night he had the whole audience of the people he's competing against going crazy.

I hope he wins, but if he doesn't I bet he's still going to get a record deal out of this.

I had to get a kick out of the heavy-set guy arguing with the judges. "Randy, I'll go to the gym with you."

Some people just can't handle rejection gracefully. Do they really think by telling off the judges they will change their minds?

Too funy when the judges were meeting and they remembered the girl because of her falling. I bet she hates that's why they remembered her.

I wanted Simon to slap that guy at the end of last nights show that was "speaking his mind."

What a whiner he is. Grow up and move on. So you didn't get selected. Did we really have to listen to your 5 minute rant on how you think Simon is a bad person and that he's upset because the group he was in were sent home packing?

Call me crazy, but I don't see what everyone else must see in this show. It's pretty stupid, in my opinion. But hey, that's just me.

As to tonight's show - careful with spoilers - those on the west coast won't see it for a couple more hours.

Ok - guess my info isn't wanted based on the comment below, I'll delete it from this thread.

I'll post my comments here about tonight's show, where a great conversation has been going on.

My opinion on the contestants:
Spoiler:
I LOVED Adriel (03) and Tamyra (01). I really liked Ryan (07) and Kelli (09). I'll be voting for all four. The others ranged from ok to good, but they were not as good as the four I mentioned, imho.

Looks like we can vote for as many different people as we want, but they haven't outright said we can vote as many times as we want for the same person. Either way, I can't vote for a couple more hours, as my phone number has a west coast area code (I watched an east coast feed).

I must say I was dismayed by the fact that they showed a little snippet of tomorrow's show, since we haven't voted yet. I'm hoping they just pre-filmed all of the show but the winners, as it would be pretty cr@ppy for our votes to not matter.

Remember that the results on who will continue on from the first group of 10 will air "live" tomorrow (Wed 6/19).

Hey, look, someone just posted in it! It's alive!

Merging threads.

P.S. If someone would like, they can start dated threads per date/episode, rather than just continuing to post in the same thread. If the new threads don't have any indication about what date/episode the thread is referring to, then I'll probably just merge it into this thread.

I missed last week's shows. OK. Everyone now has some talent although other than the first singer, I didn't care for the other performances.

Although, Simon what's-his-name is hired for being brutally honesty he doesn't have to tear them up to say he didn't care for their performance. JMO.

And yeah, Paula is still hot and sweet!

OMG, those are the same people my sister, mom, and me picked, though we also like #10. #3 was easily our favorite though, I hope he makes it.

Too funny! Great minds think alike.
Spoiler:
Actually, I liked #10 also, but felt the other four had more strength in their voices, thus had a better chance of winning the overall contest. And I too am seriously rooting for #3 (my favorite of the night) - though I reserve judgment until I hear Justin Giuarini sing (he's been my favorite since his first moment singing onscreen).

I'm such a sucker for these type of "reality" shows - PopStars 1, PopStars 2, and now American Idol - if they had broadcast the UK Pop Idol, I would have watched that, too. The only performance based reality show I never got into was Making the Band, but that had more to do with the "real world" feel of it - plus *really* untalented people, imho. (not that I've got opinions on it, or anything )

IMHO, #1 was clearly the most talented of the 10 that sang tonight and by going first she set a bar that the rest of them could not reach except for possibly #10. And isn't it just a coincidence that the two of them are firends?! Hmmmmmmmm......

As if there was any doubt ... ATL in the house. There's a hotbed of amazing talent down here.

My top 3 would probably be Tamyra (if she doesn't move on, America should be ashamed), Adriel, and Ryan (f Simon for not liking that performance). Although I would not be unpleased to see Kool Kat Christopher or Whitney's My Bitch Kelli make it. And I while she's not my favorite, I liked what Rhodesia did with Day Dream Believer.

I thought Rodesia was horrible. She didn't have very good stage presence. She seemed bored, like she wanted ot be somewhere else. She reminded me of a character that Maya Rudolph wold do on Saturday Night Live or something.

Out of this bunch, I liked Tamyra and Ryan the best. Kelli is good, but when she started singing Whitney Houston, I knew it was a bad idea. She looks like Whitney, and she needs to do something more original.

I hope the kid with the deaf parents doesn't move on. He has a nice story, but I agree with Simon he is just boring. He also does not have a good stage presence, the way he holds his arms bugs me.

Of course, I didn't vote because none of these guys I really care about.

I will probably vote when the other Justin comes on - I realy like him and I think it would be a damn shame if he doesn;t win.

Rodesia was definitely the worst of the bunch. I wonder if her sister, Madagascar, or her brother, The Congo, can sing any better.

I was a bit surprised to see Simon savage the kid with the glasses and spiked hair so viciously. Maybe it was a ploy to get viewers to vote for him out of sympathy. I still believe he is moving on to the next round

I only voted once, for #5. The red head who sang the Patsy Cline song. She didn't get raves from the judges, but I thought she had a remarkable stage presence and fine voice. Tamyra (#1) will probably get the most votes.

Honk!

What Simon told Jim V. is the same ploy he used against Rik Walker in the UK Pop Idol contest. Simon hated Rik, but the population of UK screwed Simon over and placed Rik in the top 10. Rik was overweight, but of the 10 singers, he had the best voice, but just not the look. His song he did was Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" but in his own rendition.

matta, there's no rule that says that a thread is dead after no one posts in it for five days. First, you posted a thread titled "Umm... no American Idol threads?", and when WarriorPrincess pointed you towards the existing thread, you weren't exactly gracious towards her. And now you're criticizing me for merging duplicate threads, which has been going on at DVD Talk since I've been here.

The next time you have a problem with something a moderator does, e-mail him directly instead of taking a thread off-topic by posting about it in the thread.

We now return you to our thread already in progress.

I was happy that Tamyra & Ryan made it, but disapppointed by Jim. I'm sorry, he's lame.

Boy that Kelli was a sore loser. She was crying and pushing away anyone who tried to comfort her at the end. She should have put on a happy face. This might be the last time she's on camera, she should have tried to go out smiling.

That whole Ford Focus thing was terrible. This show's product placement is ablout as subtle as a hammer.

Natalie "I'll take a refreshing Coca-Cola, please." I wonder if they paid her to say that.

It was a real shock to me that the kid in glasses made it. I thought his singing was flat. The so-called gospel version of "Daydream Believer" was awful IMO too. Like nails on a chalkboard. Strange rendition of the song. Bad selection for starters.
