Smallville pilot episdoe DVD

The specs for the upcoming Canadian release of the Smallville pilot movie has been released. Below is the listing:

Audio Commentary by producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and pilot Director David Nutter.

Interactive Map of Smallville.

Storyboard to screen featurette.

A Deleted Scene from the Pilot with commentary.

5.1 Audio and Widescreen Presentation.

This will be released June 18th, only available from Canada (I have no idea why?). It'll set you back $18.74 from Amazon.com. Only $12.99 from North American DVD or $12.34 from Totalactionuniverse.com.

Why widescreen? Was it ever shown in widescreen in another country?

Those evil syndication rights which keep us US citizens from enjoying our favorite shows in DVD until a whole five or so years after the episodes originally aired (and that's only if we're lucky).

When the pilot aired on WB it was in widescreen. The black bars weren't terrobly nig, but they were there.

Anyone get their copy yet? Mine was shipped out yesterday (6/28) by VIDEOFLICKS. Just curious if anyone who received it early has actually played the disc yet?

It was filmed, as most high production TV shows are these days, in high-definition 16:9.

WOW! That's the only word I have for the quality of the picture and sound on this DVD. When displayed over my HDtv, boy is this one incredible disc. The colors are rock solid, black level is rich and deep, along with terrific shadow delination. As for the sound, the 5.1 DD audio is wonderful.

This is a must have disc for your collection. If you haven't caught the series on the WB this is your chance to see how it all began. The only shame is that it's just the pilot episode. I would love the entire first season. Hats off to Warner Bros. for a job well done.

I'm wondering if I should hold off for the season set that will inevitably show up, even if it's in a different region.

Well, as I DO NOT have an ALL-CODE player, this region 1 dvd is a great beginning. Who knows if the entire first season will turn up on any other region. One thing is for certain, those of us who really love the show can own a beautifully produced dvd of SMALLVILLE'S pilot episode.
