X-Files Finale 5-19-2002

OH MY!!!!! Now that's a kiss, baby. Geez, my knees got weak, I can only imagine how Gillian felt. But considering Letterman's recent "close encounter" maybe it was just as good for Duchovney.

waah!

I am sorry and sad to see this series end. It is in the parthenon of Twin Peaks, Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, The Prisoner, The Avengers, I Spy....

Alas!

watched until nine, then hit record and switched to the practice

looks like their idea of tying up lose ends is to simply recap the last nine years. hope they do more tying up in the last hour

it seemed like a good 50% was just flashbacks.. yeah it tied up some loose ends but still.

I get the idea this is far from the end. Series might be over, but I doubt this is the last we've seen of the X-Files gang.

Yep, it's movie time.

It's funny.

I was reading another thread about Fox's new fall schedule. They mentioned that Malcolm was moving to 9pm. My first thought was "that's the X-Files slot".

I was satisfied with the finale. It could've been longer. It didn't answer future questions. But the past has been sufficiently explained.

..for now.

Pretty much what I figured. A lead into the movie. (sigh)

But I do LOVE the Mulder/Scully and David/Gillian chemistry. I feel so cheap and taudry. I'm so ashamed.....

Well considering on more than one occasion she has alluded to her dislike for the guy, she probably felt sick. :-)

I really liked the episode. I didn't really consider the flashbacks to e recaps but more of a now we are filling in the blanks and telling you what you may not have realized. I hope that this is it. I LOVE the X-Files but I don't want to see any movies or anything. This was the perfect way to end it. And the surprise guest/cool death goes to...

Spoiler:
Ciggie Man!

**spoiler used just in case some watched the Cosby Reunion instead. :-)

That is exactly why the show is so successful.

CC has already been given the ok from FOX to do the next film. The next film will NOT be mythology/alien related, so this is not a lead in to the next film. The next film will be a stand alone piece.

I was hoping to see Fox and Dana take the boy with them. He is the only hard proof they got. It was cool to see Cancer man one last time (he won't survive this time ). It looks like we can have ten years worth of movies though. I can't wait till December 12, 2012.

I just about gave up on the show because of the flashback. I was thinking what a cheap series finale, but it turned around in the second half hour.

It seemed to be a newbie guide to the X-Files....strange that the last episode could also be a jumping on episode, but that could just set-up for the movies. It was nice to get some closure though.

I loved the finale. I would've liked it if they put the old theme montage in the opening music. The only thing i find inexplicable is
Spoiler:
Kersh's sudden change of heart. I mean, come on, the guy was a dyed-in-the-wool Jackal who hated Mulder with a passion.
.

I hope the upcoming movie deals with

the upcoming alien invasion in 2012

I know its been said that the upcoming movie would have nothing to do with the mythology, but it wouldn't make much sense if that was true.

With the way it stands now
Spoiler:

•the X-Files are no more?
[did they have a going out of business furniture sale?
•Skinner walked into Kersh's office with the guy who wasn't human.
•Doggett and Reyes went one way, and Mulder and Scully went the other.
•Technically, Mulder is a fugitive.
•Who knows WHAT Scully's status as far as the FBI goes is..

So...it might not make much sense to make it a NON-mythology flick.

What was significance of the alien baby? I know their baby is part alien. But what is it's power? Why did some of the aliens "witness" the birth while others (people/aliens) want to kill it?

although i haven't seen all of this (there were too many things to watch. i was flipping channels like mad), was the opening sequence the same one they have used all season? i haven't watched this show in a long time and one of the things that i always thought was cool was how they never changed the opening credits except for the actual names.

Nice conclusion/lead-in. I haven't watched for several seasons and it was really helpful to see how everything fit together. Looks like I stopped watching the series right before the supersoldier stuff.

I'll look forward to a movie and seeing how all of this resolves itself. I figure the next one will conclude the cliffhangers in this episode. Will there be an invasion in films to follow? I say no; it would be too "Independence Day" for my tastes. Mulder will succeed and it will turn out to be the greatest threat mankind has never known about. If you think about it, it seems like a forgone conclusion... I mean, even in the last episode, there was no court stenographer to record what was being said.

interesting ending, eh? bittersweetness creeping through some scenes...reminded me of the old X-Files (old characters, the atmosphere, very minimal overall)...

a little dissapointed in the first hour or so...the ending is interesting, Mulder believing in her spirituality, and she believing in his "truth". I would have still ended it with Requiem, 2 years ago...this ending reminded me of the first episode when she's sitting on a bed just like that, in a robe, in a hotel room...a little depressing, end of the world, hope, the two
partners/lovers on the run...

sad that this was it... not a good show in sight left... at least none that I would care to watch...

---Mircea

PS>>> The Clarice joke was great though...that old dry humor...

I pretty sure it's Dec 22, 2012 because that's when the Myan calendar ends for this age of man... (according to those who believe in such stuff )

Personally I thought the eps sucked, but I completely lost interest in the whole alien conspiracy thing sometime before the movie came out... That's not even mentioning the "loopholes"/nitpicky things about the eps alone. It was nice to have a final "recap" of what it was about though, so it wasn't a complete loss.

WRT the movies I'd rather see them focus on Rhayes (sp?) and Doggett.

That's nine years of my life I'll never get back...

Magnetite (sp?) has got to be the stupidest thing ever. I had to shake my head and laugh when I realized we were going to see another alien just forget that he wasn't supposed to be that close to the cliff wall.

This show had so much promise during the first 3 or 4 seasons that it was really hard to watch it get bogged down in its conspiracy stories with things like bees in cornfields (note that no mention of the bees was brought up during the trial), spaceships with "the word of God", miracle babies and supersoldiers. I stuck with the show until the end but I can't help thinking I would've been happier if they had done a wrap up like this even a year ago.

Is this the best Carter could do??
A 2 hour clip show?

I see that most people here are reviewing Mulder and Scullys chemistry.
Remember when Chris Carter said they would never get together?
As much as I like the two of them, I dont think they should have put them together.

I thought they would go out with a bang tonight but you could see from tonights episode that the show is way past its prime.

Ho-hum. I hate to say it, but at least it's over. The chemistry between the characters was strong and kept the show alive for so many years, but that's really all that was left. I guess this episode was a decent recap of much (except what was conveniently ignored due to lack of continuity) of what happened over the past 9 years, but it didn't really offer anything very satisfying beyond that. Thankfully, we can now put this chapter of television to rest and move on. For a time, it was one of the best shows on television. Now that it's gone, hopefully some new blood can bring more strong genre programming to the small screen.

Agreed das, summed it up pretty well. Well there it goes, after watching since the pilot I'm glad they wrapped it up (albeit a few years too late). Look forward to watching over the dvds over the next few years

As a complete fan from day 1 I'm very pleased.

The clip was a nice way to recap since the story has been thru so many twists and turns. I do feel sorry for those who turned it due to being upset over the clips and flashbacks. Oh wait....no I'm not. It's their own fault and I think they missed out on a bit of television history. People who have given up on the series are entitled to their opinions but in my opinion it's been a great 9 years.

Movie or no movie I'm very pleased. And I'm glad to say that because I dreaded watching tonight's show.....as I've dreaded the end of the show since it was announced. It was the first show I watched faithfully. I could shut off my cable now and be fine with it cause nothing will beat this show or entertain me more than it did. Thank you Chris Carter.
