Simpsons ending soon???
|
Nah. It's on Fox. We've got at least another 8 seasons.
|
the simpsons is fox
w/ futurama and family guy gone if the simpsons left as well I could stop watching Fox altogether. |
Fox executives would sacrifice their first-borns just to squeeze one more season out of "The Simpsons." Groening could use this as a bargaining chip to keep "Futurama" alive.
|
Didn't they sign a deal a year or so ago to keep it on through season 15? That might be a good spot to wind it up. I agree it isn't as "fresh" as it used to be but it's still better than 90% of what else is on the air -- last weekend's "Homer Hulk" episode was a great one, I thought. What season is this, 12 or 13? I definitely would say they're in the last 3-4 seasons right now... Don't want to pull an "X-Files" or "Mad About You" and have the show overstay its shelf life and nobody cares when it ends.
|
Well, at least we still have Andy Richter and Greg the Bunny.... if enough petitions and threatening letters are sent to FOX.
|
As far as I am concerned, this show ended after season 10. Season 11 had a few good episodes, but everything since then has been painfully bad. And it's not as good as 90% of everything else on TV. That is unless you're just totally brainwashed by the Fox media machine and still believe the hype.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! i thought they didnt order new shows so they could air ones already made. didnt know it was axed! |

Actually, I was trying to make a point that anything is better than the current run on the Simpsons. ANYTHING.

Well....I don't watch it. I try to catch an episode from time to time, and even tuned in for the Stan Lee episode. I find a few good chuckles but it's just not the same. A few good chuckles does not equal a good show. In fact, if The Simpsons had started out with it's early seasons this bad, I doubt it would have the support it does now.
And I didn't mean to step on any toes. I didn't gather from the main post on this thread that this thread was intended only for praise. I had no idea a contradictory opinion would be so unwelcome. |

Even if I don't care for the last couple seasons, over all it's still deserving of being listed as one of the best shows of all time), and even tuned in for the Stan Lee episode. I unwillingly had to see an episode of the Golden Girls the other day and also got a few chuckles from it. That doesn't mean it's better than 90% of what's out there. I could say the same for a lot of other TV shows and even movies. It's like people saying Phantom Menace was good because it had a cool pod race scene. Please. That movie was lame in spite of the pod race scene.
As for unpopular...well, maybe here, but there are other message boards where the consensus I share is not in the minority. There are more than a few long time fans giving up on this show. |

The Fox media machine is doing it! Someone please stop them so that I can switch channels to watch better fare such as Touched By An Angel or Weakest Link! The Fox Media Machine has meeeeeee! In case you didn't realize it, I was being sarcastic! |
This is step 1...
Step 2 is getting the syndicators to stop distribution :D |
The simpsons have atleast a few more seasons in them. they still have an average amount of Good episodes. I'm happy with them. as for you folks who say its crap now... eh. couldn't care less on how others see the show. I love it. :)
|
i hear it wasnt cancel but the writer of the show says it is time to stop making the show as for he is running outta ideas for new shows. an dwnats to leave while the show si still strong. instead of when it goes bad. also i heard it is ending round the time season 2 comes out on dvd. that might explain why it was delayed to aug.... just rumors i hear...so not sure just what i heard

And it's not as good as 90% of everything else on TV. That is unless you're just totally brainwashed by the Fox media machine and still believe the hype. I feel the same way. Every show goes downhill at some point. I already know that I won't buy any season DVD sets after Season 8. There were a few good episodes sprinkled in here and there in the subsequent seasons, but after season 10, every episode I watched, I hardly laughed. I watched the cartoon book episode last week and could not believe this was the same show as it was the early-mid 90s. |
as someone said above, i believe.
even at it's worst, The Simpsons, is still better than pretty much everything on TV. I hope it keeps on going, as it is my favorite television show, but we all know it can't last forever. |
Originally posted by madcougar In case you didn't realize it, I was being sarcastic! While it admittedly isn't what it used to be, I still plop myself down to it every Sunday night in the hopes that an episode like last weeks is on. "The Angry Dad" cartoons? COME ON! Funny stuff. My particular favorite lines: Principal Skinner: "And now the father of the kid that hangs out with Bart Simpson." Nelson: "Ah! Amuse juste!" Krusty: "This cartoon could kill us! (into phone)Quick, book that act that likes to bite me in the crotch!" Secretary: "You mean, Susan Anton?" Krusty: "No! That lemur!" Bart: "What's 520 million times zero? And DON'T say ZERO!" I wouldn't mind them cancelling it as long as they PROMISE to do at least two specials a year - Tree House of Horrors and Christmas episodes. They should have no problem cranking out two high quality episodes a year. |
For a show that nobody seems to like anymore it sure as hell pulls in great ratings. I see no problem with the show in the fact that it has been on for 13 seasons and is still going strong. Not many other shows can claim that.
|
Clearly, they have run out of ideas. I would like to see them producing only a few new shows a year with the few good ideas that they come up with though.
|
Actually, I came away from that CNN article with the impression that Groening is playing hardball with Fox over Futurama.

I have been known to stick with shows that lost fans when the quality waned or things were changed. I stuck with Night Court to the very end, even tho fans despised the changes in Dan's character and when Harry and Christine got together. So I've been the one who has stuck with shows when other fans were wondering why I did, so I can appreciate the Simpsons fans who are sticking to it. All the power to you, but I would rather see Futurama continue on than to see Simpsons go on, and when Futurama gets cancelled and the Simpsons continues to deterorate and rot away, that tells me something is wrong. I once looked forward to the idea of a Simpsons feature film with great delight, but now the prospect scares me. I hope we didn't see them exhaust all their good material on the show and I hope the movie (when and if it comes out) redeems these weaker seasons. |
Can you honestly tell me that reality shows are better than the Simpsons?
It goes by taste, I wouldn't watch survivor if you held a knife to my throat, I would gladly let myself be killed before watching a reality show. If Simpsons sucks so much, why can I catch it about 5 times a day and a total of about 45 times or more during the week Only thing it will do if Simpsons is cancelled is another reason to not get cable. |

Better than Simpsons circa 1990-1998. Absolutely not. Better than Simpsons today? Some of them definitely are, at least to me. I could watch Simpsons episodes until the cows come home, but only if they are Season 8 and prior (with a few of the newer ones sprinkled in - very few though). I've seen each of those episodes at least 10 times over. I record the syndicated Simpsons everyday. If they are classic ones, I love watching them. If they are newer ones, I just delete them. |
Give me the Osbournes over any current run of the Simpsons any day. And that is an example of a reality show that is actually better.

The Simpsons are still better than 75% of the programming available on the major networks.

Originally posted by vapoRware The Simpsons are still better than 75% of the programming available on the major networks. Maybe that is true, but count out the number of prime-time hours on the 4 major networks. How much do you watch? That is 81 hours of prime time programming on the major networks. I watch 13 hours (so basically 1/6) of programming/week on the 4 major networks (and that includes overlapping shows that I tape). To me, the rest (including, sadly The Simpson presently) is not that entertaining. |
I think it's safe to say that only about 20% of what is on TV at any given time is actually good. So I can see how people could bump even the lamest episode of the Simpsons into that good category, but IMO, there is still 19.99% of stuff still more entertaining than the Simpsons.
