This show is hysterical. Yeah - Rhonda, the chick who had anxiety attack, had it really bad for The Bachelor. She was bitching about how 2 of his Final Four were in it for the wrong reasons.

They can keep churning these shows out. I'm a sucker for them, although Temptation Island is the best.

I tuned in midway through episode #2. I like it. It's classier than I thought it was going to be.

i heard howard stern talking about this show, so i tuned in last night to see this one. that chick was hilarious. they were always showing her with teary eyes, talking about how he was so perfect for her and that all these other women were just there for the attention and for the jewelry and gifts they might recieve. like she didn't go into this thing with fantasies of hooking up with some rich smart guy, like all the rest of them. i wanted to see her get booted soooooooo badly. she was definitely a headcase.

i'm not really familiar with the rest of the show, what's the payoff? a marriage proposal, some kind of long vacation, an engagement ring???

I think the payoff is whoever is left out of all these women, they get to marry the guy?

I saw a little bit of this show last week and it really made me sick. Nice way to build a "relationship" with someone. This guy needs an ass-beating, and these women need a reality check. This will be followed up next season with the divorce proceedings.

ABC eyes altar with 2nd 'Bachelor'
April 11, 2002

ABC's romance with "The Bachelor" continues. The network is expected to officially greenlight a second edition of the reality series that features 25 young women vying for a chance to marry an eligible single man. ABC is also readying an additional seventh episode of the current series, a reunion of 23 of the 25 female contestants who didn't reach the final. The special one-hour is set to air at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, as a lead-in to the show's finale, which will feature the bachelor choosing between the two finalists. In its three airings to date, "The Bachelor" has improved ABC's fortunes on Monday. The show has averaged 9.8 million viewers and a 4.2 rating/10 share in adults 18-49, consistently building on its lead-in. (Nellie Andreeva)

Here is the synopsis from ABC's website:

Episode 4

The remaining four Bachelorettes all get a chance to say goodbye, as they vacate the Ladies' Villa to return to their hometowns and introduce Alex to their families and friends.

First Trip: Kim

Knowing he hasn't spent very much one-on-one time with Kim, Alex arrives in Phoenix, Arizona and makes a point of getting some private time with her … and the two go speed boating on a lake! They had a great time, and even managed to sneak in a kiss or three.

Afterwards, it was on to Kim's parent's house to meet the family. Alex got to spend time with Kim's mom, dad, two sisters, brother-in-law, niece and nephew. It was important to Kim to see if Alex connected well with kids, which he seemed to — up until he accidentally made her nephew cry by playing with him a little too rough. The rest of the visit was pleasant, as Alex seemed to connect well with his date's family.

Second Trip: Trista

An excited and energetic Alex arrives in St. Louis, Missouri to spend some quality time with Trista and meet her parents. Upon arriving, Alex and Trista first tour the city a bit, and stop by her old high-school, as Alex ponders if Trista even really likes him. Sitting on the bleachers at her old high-school field, they share a kiss.

At Trista's home, Alex is introduced to Trista's happy and inviting family. Alex seems to blend in easily with Trista's laid-back kin. Trista's mother asks Trista if Alex is a good kisser, and an embarrased but honest Trista says he is. After spending some time with her family, who she is close to, Alex felt that Trista started to melt a little bit. Trista's friends stopped by, and the mood lightened even more as they tried to get Alex to dance. In the limousine afterwards, Trista confesses that while she would not have picked a guy like Alex out on her own, she is very interested in him. When Alex asks her to imagine dating him exclusively, though, Trista admits she cannot, as she knows he is dating three other women.

Third Trip: Amanda

An extremely tired Alex arrives in the small town of Chanute, Kansas, to meet Amanda's family. After a long ride in from the city with Amanda, Alex doesn't seem to connect with Amanda's folks, and lacks the energy to turn on his usual charm. Alex admits that his demeanor is not that good.

Over dinner at a country club, Alex meets Amanda's protective brothers, who proceed to grill him pretty hard on who he is and what he's doing. Alex holds his own, though, and manages to impress the older brothers. An exhausted Alex heads out, one more trip to go …

Fourth Trip: Shannon

It's off to Dallas, Texas, for Alex's last trip to meet Shannon's family. Almost immediately upon entering Shannon's home, Shannon goes off to look for her dog. After playfully meeting Shannon's beloved Weimaraner, Avery, Alex goes inside to spend time with her mother, father, sister and nephew — but all of Shannon's attentions remain firmly on the dog. Shannon creates an awkward moment when she leaves a bewildered Alex behind in the living room with her parents, with nothing to say, while she decides she wants to be outside with Avery. After taking the dog for walk, Shannon sends Alex off in the limo without a goodbye kiss. When she goes back in to find out what her parents think of Alex, her parents turn the tables and draw Shannon's frustration when they question her about what she's been doing.

Later that evening, Alex questions Shannon in the limo about her "rules." Shannon is hesitant to talk about it on camera, as these are personal, private issues, and Shannon wants Alex to respect that. As she grows frustrated, they argue a little over if Alex is aware of just how serious Shannon is — and how serious a marriage will be.

The Rose Ceremony

Back in Malibu, Alex faces his toughest decision yet, as he has to decide which of the Bachelorettes will not be receiving a rose in tonight's ceremony. After watching the private video messages recorded after each date, Alex offers roses to Shannon, Trista and Amanda. A heart-broken Kim says her goodbyes, and, while in tears, remains optimistic on her limo ride home.

I love low brow shows like these. I only wish I had watched from the beginning. Now anybody know when the next Glutton Bowl is going to be aired?

I just want to know when this idiotic fascination with reality TV is going to end. Real life (or pseudo-life) is boring. That's why we have TV in the first place. If I wanted to watch ten random people talk for 55 minutes in anticipation of a 5 minute period where I found out that there'll be one less idiot to watch the following week .... you know what, I'm not going to finish that sentence because the fact is I don't. I'm happy that the game show fad is on its way out, but why is it that for every moronic craze that burns out like the steaming pile of dung it is, a new (and usually much worse) one rises from the ashes. (Case in point: Power Rangers => Pokemon).

Probably never. If my memory is correct: You have to remember that all this stuff started when the FOX network was relatively new and needed to produce innovative low budget shows that got ratings and came up with things like COPS and America's Most Wanted and it worked. Besides being a trend, you have to consider the cost benefit to the networks and as long as they get ratings and are cheap to make, you'll see more of them

Yeah let's get rid of all of the reality shows and put more great shows like Baby Bob and Wednesday 9:30 on.

This is HILARIOUS! These snippets taken from Red Dog's posting (thanks, dude) make the whole show sound like a failure. Do ANY of these women really want this guy? It sounds like the final four are competing for who HAS to marry him, not gets to! I mean, what difference does it make if Alex gets along with kids well for Kim to see. If he picks her, he picks her, no?
Too funny!

I can't bring myself to watch Baby Bob because I'm afraid its comedic excellence will spoil every other funny moment that I witness for the rest of my life. I enjoy the occasional laugh and I would prefer to keep doing it instead of thinking "Well, it was GOOD, but it was no Baby Bob joke."

What they really need is a show about a talking dog with the brain of a scientist, and they follow it around documenting its activities. Then every time it takes a dump they put a little sign in the poop comparing its contents to the contents of cigarettes.

Yes, but Fox was smart about it back then. They relegated these shows to nights when they knew they couldn't win. Now, all these crap reality shows are given prime time slots and genuinely good shows are getting shafted and given slots where they don't stand a chance. Then the networks cancel them because they don't get the ratings.

Good episode last night. I'm so glad that he dumped Shannon. That girl was bad news from the start. The epitome of high maintenence. She also seems to lack confidence in herself which makes her appear unattractive.

It is tough to say who is better marriage material at this point. He and Amanda click together more already (obviously), but Trista might be the one he actually feels could be marriage material. Should be an interesting finale.

I'm also glad he dumped Shannon. But not because she's high maintenence as you stated. I think she's too classy for him.

Doesn't it seem more than a little despirate to propose to a girl who admits to being "in like" with you? Very lame show, but mildly entertaining in a train-wreck, "When Animals Attack" sort of way...
