The Bachelor:another piece of reality TV crap
Let me start by saying that I despize reality tv, and I don't even watch Tough Enough even though I love the WWF.
I have seen some bits of other shows like Tempation Island and such and they really do repulse me. This show looks to be no exception.
My problem is that it is supposed to be reality tv but they never get real people on the show. The title person in the bachelor just happens to be a Harvard grad. who's really in the money. Similarly, a man on MTV's Real World in Chicago has a degree from Princeton. Furthermore, all of the bachelorette's on the new ABC show happen to be professionals as well. They never go for the lesser people in society or people that aren't wealthy or attractive. These shows make our society look materialistic and in constant search of money and sex, and it makes me sick!!!

I'm a sucker for these dating shows that have good-looking women like TI and Blind Date so I'll probably check this out. There is nothing but crap on Mondays anyway.
On looks alone, my choice would be Angelique

Didn't the promos for this bother anyone? They were on a lot during the Oscars last night. The show is one guy and 25 women and six weeks. At the end he will pick one woman to marry. The ad shows these women in various states of undress slobbering all over the guy in the hot tub, the pool, living room, etc. I mean, come on - this is just ridiculous. These attractive "professional women" are all going to whore themselves out to this guy for six weeks in order to convince him that one is more deserving that the other to marry him? If you ask me Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire had a little more class. At least the women weren't expected to get physical to curry the favor of the groom. It isn't Maury - it's freaking SPRINGER!
In a world where decent programming is being axed after only 3 episodes, how much you want to bet that this will be on through May? Watching some Harvard grad's wet dream on TV is not my idea of entertainment.

I saw The Bachelor last night and I kinda like it. I think I might be the lone dissident judging from all the negative things everyone is saying about the show. It seems to be semi-instructional and kinda interesting to guess which girls would be picked by the guy For example, at first I was a bit surprised when the bachelor didn't pick the lawyer lady. From the way they edited their scenes, I thought she would surely be given a rose. Upon further thought, it does make sense that the bachelor didn't pick her because the lawyer didn't make much eye contact with him and he mentioned in a private interview that's one of the things he look for first.

I tuned into this bt accident about 1/3 of the way through.
Is that supposed to be his Malibu beach house, or one they are just using to film the show?
Early favorites: Kim and Shannon, and put the one with the huge knockers at #3.

HOWEVER, please keep in mind that unlike every other "reality" show, Real World is not a competition. And since it's around 10 years old, really doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the cheesy things debuting now.

Are you talking about Angela - the one who works at Hooters P/T? I really liked her.

I don't remember if her name was Angela or not.
But you couldn't miss the rack on this lady.
I won't make a special point to tune in to this show on a regular basis. If I'm around flipping channels I might check it out a bit.
But I will go on record now and say I'd bet $ that either Kim or Shannon will "win" at the end.

I feel guilty.
I watched the whole thing and I liked it.
Not a must see, but until Angel comes back on I have nothing to watch until Once and Again starts.
If nothing else, its a show with only one male star and 15 hot female leads.

Guys, in all honesty, do you even think any of us would stand a chance of getting on a show like that? Anything on TV is staged to an extent, and is therefore not reality. Of course if it were reality then it would be rather boring.
I would like to see a show like this with some rather middle class men and women trying for each other, that would be more reality based.

Well this is true.
Actually, a few of those "dating" type shows where they follow the two people around have been ok.
At least one's where it seemed like it was unscripted activity, and most of the people appeared to be fairly average.

Salt Lake Tribune review of "The Bachelor"on ABC
Is this new reality really this bad? Has anybody here watched it? Does this writer have any valid points after watching only 1 episode?
Thoughts?
RENZHOFER: As 'The Bachelor' Proves, ABC Yet to Master the Low Art of Sleaze
Saturday, March 23, 2002
BY MARTIN RENZHOFER
In the world of television sleaze, there are two rules for success -- be first and be foul.
ABC's latest venture into "reality" programming, "The Bachelor," which airs Monday at 8 p.m. on Ch. 4 (KTVX), is neither original nor base enough. Only one word describes "The Bachelor" -- boring.
Actually, there are other words, but this is a family newspaper.
"The Bachelor" is billed as a romance-reality series where "one lucky man and 25 lucky women [or objects]" are given the opportunity to find true love, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. In the course of six episodes, 31-year-old Alex Michel, hungry for marriage, will whittle the field of 25 to one.
"This is about something real, something permanent, that 'till death do you part thing," says hip love guide Chris Harrison (also host of HGTV's "Designers' Challenge").
Even Alex's mom and dad give these activities a big thumbs up.
During the first episode, set in a Malibu seaside bachelor pad, Alex hosts a cocktail party and meets the 25 dynamic women who share his desire to find true love. The women range from doctors and lawyers to a Hooters server and a NBA cheerleader.
"The Bachelor" is filmed in soft light and has a warm, cozy tone. But no matter how much ABC dresses up this thing, the show cannot escape registering in the middle of the smarm barometer, and that shortchanges fans of this type of programming.
First, ABC could have used a few lessons from the shlock master, Fox. Now, there is a network that would have never spent its entire first episode only getting to know all of the women, then kicking out 10.
Heck, "Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire?" only needed one showing to narrow the entire field to Darva Conger.
As for its pitch of originality, ABC apparently forgot about TheWB's failed dating vehicle, "Elimidate Deluxe." That show featured a guy or gal having to choose from only four sex prospects, and still had plenty of high-sleaze adventure.
The first episode of "The Bachelor" is as exciting as watching the reaction of Oscar losers.
ABC, which has milked "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" to the final drop, has had a difficult time finding a suitable replacement. "The Chair" and "The Mole II" failed miserably.
Television programming can take one of two roads, and "The Bachelor" isn't the high road. Yet, if the first episode is anything to go by, it isn't the low road, either.
"The Bachelor" is only mediocre, and is there a bigger sin in television?

Is anyone still watching "The Bachelor" on ABC?
Just wondering if anyone here is still watching this "reality" show on ABC? Is anybody here still watching it? What do you think of it? Not real or real?
