The Shield 3/19

I thought it was a worthy follow-up to last weeks pilot, although this week seemed to be more "toned dpwn". Was that guilt Mackey was having during the flashback scenes? I'm also wondering how much time Shane has left, I thought he was going to crack.

I like the direction they appear to be taking Aveveda. I just hope his character doesn't focus on bringing down Mackey week in and week out. I'm also wondering what the plans for Sofer(?-the female uniform cop) are. IMO, she has potential to be the most complex character with good sub-plots.

yeah, but they need to follow up on stuff instead of just dropping everything, ie, the pedophile doctor, stupid gang kid, etc. looks like they just drop those interesting villains in favor of cop infighting. more follow through....

Love the show. After just having watched TRAINING DAY on dvd I can see where they came up for the idea on this show. Just like HAPPY DAYS was from AMERICAN GRAFFITTI, MIAMI VICE was from SCARFACE.

Actually Training Day was ripped off from a Robert Crais novel - litigation pending. And Miami Vice was originally a manuscript by Anthony Yerkovich called The Gold Coast.

The Shield was an original pilot written by Shawn Ryan.

Which novel? I'm a big fan of Robert Crais, but I don't remember anything like Training Day. I certainly would like to read it, even if it doesn't have Joe Pike.

Honk!

I think it was called Free Fall and is an Elvis Cole/Joe Pike novel.

I would have liked to have seen more follow up on the bad guys busted last week. Or at least a mention that they are going to jail or their trial is coming up. I hope they do some serious follow through on that gang kid.

Overall this show it turning out to be much more interesting. Many people who posted in the first thread said they thought Mackey was going to be like Dirty Harry and then they saw he was bad and decided not to watch. Well, this week we see that he may have some guilt over what he did and that makes him a bit more interesting to me.

Can't wait to see this play out.
