I missed the final few seconds and the credits due to a minor emergency in the kitchen. Who supplied the cowboy's voice and what was the last shot?

Dennis Weaver was the cowboy.

The ending was almost your typical 'riding into the sunset' except he rode his horse to his house, parked it, went in, took the garbage out, walked back in, looked out the window (to see if we were still there). So basically it was an almost uncomfortably long ending until finally Bart ran across the street in the foreground chased by that infernal dog.

Guess FOX figured there was no point trying to compete against the closing ceremonies of the Olympics - only die-hard Simpsons fans were gonna tune in anyway so why not dispose of a crappy episode.

On a brighter note ----
[unbridled optimism]Could that mean that NEXT week will be a GREAT one so FOX can lock up the ratings on Sunday night - new Futurama, King of the Hill, Simpsons, Malcom AND the start of the end of The X-Files!?!?!?[/unbridled optimism] Oh-boy-oh-boy! :D
