What the heck is up with Dragonball Z (or why I hate Cartoon Network)

I've been watching Dragonball Z on cartoon network at midnight most weeknights. Cartoon Network has shown the Majin Buu series up to the point where Vegeeta self destructs about four times now, and has not gone any further with the series.

It's very frustrating because it takes 50 or 60 episodes to get through one story (a lot of non action, wiggling eyeballs, grunting, and standing around glowing at each other). I'd like to see how this damn_series ends, but I just KNOW cartoon network is going to leave me hanging AGAIN.

Last Wednesday was where the series ended up seven weeks previously before they began showing repeats of the series from the beginning. So I have a bad feeling about tonight.

I know there are other episodes after the Vegeeta self destruct episode because I've seen non-english versions on the international channel where they ultimately destroy Buu. Unfortunately I do not speak japanese, so I have no idea what really happened.

Me, I'm still mad they took G-Force / Battle of the Planets off the air.

I mean, what do they play on that station? Seems like all I see is Scooby Doo and the Flintstones.

Hint to cartoon network: At 10PM, kids are not watching "The Flintstones".

Actually the toon network has improved its late night programming in the last four years. They don't play quite as much scooby doo (thank the TV gods for that).

Adult Swim on sundays and thursdays has some excellent toons including Space Ghost Coast to Coast (though I'd like to see some new episodes), Home movies, Cowboy Bebop, Sealab 2021 (which is freakin' hilarious in its cheesy badness), and a couple other non scooby shows. Afterwards, they show some of the better popeye cartoons, which were very adult at the time they were made - and still are.

Samurai Jack is vaguely interesting, mostly eyecandy.

Cow and Chicken was okay for a while, but easy to get tired of quickly.

Never could get into the power puff girls.

Dragonball and Dragonball Z are beginning to grow on me, not unlike a tumor. It's just frustrating that the series never gets beyond a certain point before the toon network starts rerunning older episodes.

There are 291 episodes of Dragonball Z, the original Dragonball has 153 episodes and Dragonball GT has 64 episodes. Overall there were 508 total Dragonball-related episodes in the 3 series.

Cartoon Network does seasons for DBZ. They probably finished the Buu story and will wait until next season (either summer or September) for the next arc. I haven't watched it in so long. I like DBZ but it can get very tedious. It's like a soap opera...4 weeks of shows can pass by, but it is only 10 min. in series time .

Adult Swim should be every night after 10 p.m. or Cartoon Network should just start a Spicetoon network or something.

From: Bartertown due to it having a better economy than where I really live.
I wish they'd get the Superdimensional Fortress Macross, Superdimensional Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mosepa. The three shows Robotech was based on.
It'd also be cool for them to get GI Joe and teh original Transformers, so all us kids of the 80's could be happy

Cartoon Network can only air what it has 'in stock'. Dragon Ball Z is one of the highest-rated programs on their air. If they had more episodes, believe me, they'd show them. As it stands, the new episodes of DBZ most likely won't air until September.

To maybe tide you over, starting this Saturday night at 11p, Adult Swim is expanding to include an all-action block. They are going to be premiering three new anime shows: Yuyu Hakusho, Pilot Candidate and Gundam 0083.

Also, with the exception of the Adult Swim block, the network's primary audience is kids age 6 to 11. Cartoon Network actually has an entire department dedicated to ratings analysis. In the 10+ years the network has been on the air, they've found that these kids do stay up late and they do watch Flintstones, Scooby Doo and all the other stuff we think is old and dull. It's not really in the network's best interest to air shows no one is watching, but the kids do, so it stays.

Just to let you know, the Buu Saga is the last saga in Dragonball Z. Funimation (the company that translates DBZ) only puts out around 40 episodes at a time. They are working on the final episods of DBZ as we speak. After that I'm not sure on their stance with DBGT. Last I heard they were trying to get the rights to it.

I really don't like Anime, as a rule. But I can't stand being left hanging like this. I thought there was more to the series because I have seen episodes on the International channel that I hadn't seen before (episode showing the Supreme Kai, Goku, and Gohan kicking Buu's ass). Unfortunately, I don't speak Japanese so it was a little difficult to really know what was going on.

Is it just that cartoon network doesn't have the rights to the rest of the series, or is it because the rest of the series hasn't been translated yet?

On the plus side Cartoon has finally begun airing new Dragonballs, finally getting into young Goku dealing with The Red Ribbon Army.
