Re: Wonder Years vs. Boy Meets World
I don't think it's even a fair comparison. I liked Boy Meets World a lot, but the Wonder Years is in a different universe, quality wise, imo. I'd also take Topanga over Winnie, though, especially towards the end of the run when she got a little chunky.

Wonder Years by a mile. I grew up with this show. It was one of those shows, along with The Cosby Show, that my family sat around the TV every week and watched. So I have fond memories of it. I also liked that it tried to maintain a sense of reality.

I still watch it on Nick at Nite when I get a chance. The show got out of hand when Urkel was made into at least 24 different characters, certain family members vanished without explanation, they replaced the actress playing Harriette, and Steve was making time travel devices.

Wow... I don't even remember posting this thread. When it popped up a couple days ago, I just saw the title, thought, "What a stupid question... The Wonder Years," and ignored it. Only today, did I happen to see out of the corner of my eyes that I had posted it... 7 years ago.
Ummmm... Wonder Years?

Wonder Years - wonderfully well-written, poignant, brutally honest, classic television
Boy Meets World - run of the mill, laugh track choreography, TGIF-fodder rubbish
No contest. Plus Topanga was a little thick for me.

Well, I'm probably the most surprised to see this thread... since I don't remember starting it. Just saw the thread title and was going to post... but then I saw I was the OP. Interesting.
I think I might have posted it as a joke, but seriously, 3.5 years I really don't remember.
I actually do really like both of them though. Wonder Years probably gets the edge for it's saccharine sweet nostalgia, but Boy Meets World was probably downright more hilarious (The one where Feeny and Corey go on the roller coaster had me crying at one point)
And I'm going to have to agree with Dooku. Wholeheartedly agree with Dooku.
A conversation my brother had with one of his friends when his friend came back from spring break
Brother "Why'd you take a picture with that fat girl?"
Friend "That's Topanga."
And yes, it actually was

Winnie Cooper Is Married

If you were a boy growing up in the late '80s or early '90s, odds are you had a crush on Danica McKellar. She played Winnie Cooper, the object of Fred Savage's obsession on "The Wonder Years." The nostalgia-fueled sitcom has been off the air since '93, but Ms. McKeller still has legions of fans. Today, most of them are heartbroken. Their fair Winnie is officially off the market.
Yep, this past weekend, Danica got married. The nuptials caused a huge surge in Search. Men pushed queries on "danica mckellar married" and "winnie cooper married" through the roof. McKellar, who is now an author and mathematician, also saw queries rise on her famed photo spread for Stuff Magazine. Searches on the groom, composer Mike Verta, also hit a high note. Not surprisingly, the majority of Danica's lookups came from male Gen-Xers.
But it wasn't just the bride who saw a boon in Search. The maid of honor got some love as well. Danica's sister, Crystal McKellar, was in the wedding party. Crystal is best known for playing Kevin's ex-girlfriend turned archrival, Becky Slater. She memorably punched Kevin in the stomach after he broke up with her. Fans of the show haven't forgotten about the oft-spurned Becky. After news of the wedding hit, queries surged on "crystal mckellar photos."
According to E! Online, Mr. Savage (now a director of dubious talents) didn't attend the wedding, but his TV parents, Dan Lauria and Alley Mills, were there. No word on Josh Saviano, who played Kevin's best friend, Paul Pfeiffer. Regardless, queries surged on the Pfeif. Also spiking: the popular urban legend that states that Mr. Saviano and shock-rocker Marilyn Manson are actually one and the same. They're not, but the truth is a lot scarier: Saviano is now a lawyer.

Re: Wonder Years vs. Boy Meets World
Wonder Years. Although they are quite different.
To me, Topanga just looks like one of those girls we all went to school with who was only considered popular/hot because she filled out a bra before all the other girls.
Winnie, on the other hand was televisions "Girl Next Door." Only much, much better, like everything else on TV.
However, I'm not one to bash anyone's taste. Some of you might enjoy the fact that there's a Teen "model" that looks frighteningly close to Topanga. If you're feeling bold you could do a search...

Just got done reviewing BMW: S1 and addressed the comparison to the Wonder Years.
The latter is one of the best American dramedies ever produced; the former was a show that took a bit to get going, had some amazing seasons in the middle, but probably went on one season too long. It was however, always fun and had a lot of heart, so it's flaws were forgivable from a watchability standpoint.

Re: Wonder Years vs. Boy Meets World
I actually watched all three seasons this past weekend and found they've held up over the years. I enjoyed revisiting the show after all these years; there were tons of sitcom cliches, but it's to be expected. I still got a lot of laughs out of the episodes and enjoyed spending time with the characters again.
I was probably a bigger fan of The Wonder Years (which I remember watching during its first and second syndications) than Boy Meets World (which I also watched during syndication). It's really hard to compare the two, if only because The Wonder Years is more of a drama and Boy Meets World is a straight sitcom. Either way, they're both great shows.
Funny story about The Wonder Years though. I was really young when it was first in syndication, and I probably caught it somewhere in the middle at that time. Because I was so young I actually thought it was re-runs of a show made in the 1970s. I was young and didn't know better during the initial syndication. But that just goes to show how well they captured the look and feel of one of the time-period, because when I compared it to other stuff I was watching re-runs of (I Love Lucy, Bewitched, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Happy Days, etc.) I could tell that The Wonder Years was newer than them, but it still seemed significantly older than stuff I was currently watching.
EDIT: And for what it's worth, I hated Winnie and really wasn't a huge fan of Topanga either. I liked a lot of other girls on the show that they were friends with and/or dated much better though.
