What's with the Retooling of 'Philly'?
Kathleen gets a new haircut?
Kathleen stops showing leg?
New title music?
It's still my pick for the best new show of the season, and last night's episode was very very good, but why the changes? Anyone else feel a little off-balance watching it last night?

I didn't have a strong opinion on the hairstyle change, but I didn't like the changes to the opening music at all. I did like the elimination of the strobe/mirroring effects w/ the bridge and the building with the flag, as those struck me as out of place for a gritty legal drama.
Methinks the gritty part may be in the process of being smoothed over, with a less grating ex-, a happier Kathleen, etc. This would not be for the better, as it would be a step closer to the homogenous pap Hollywood produces.

As for the change, I think the network flexed it's muscle and it's producers said, "how about this?" I don't like change, but at least it wasn't that severe. I suspect this is the same thing that happened to Titus. Ever since they brought Elizabeth Berkely on it's felt a bit different. These probably aren't going to be the only shows 'retooled' this season. It depresses me to see businesses being run by people who don't know what they are doing.
Anyone remember the episode of the Simpson's with the network executives who every five minutes were saying, "we have notes."

I preferred the old haircut, much nicer, and I really preferred the older opening music.
I think bochco is trying to make this be NYPD BLue, the music is similar, and the ad breaks have the same segway to them.
What odds on a crossover case btw Blue and Philly before the end of the year?

I think that would be doubtful unless he would want to have viewers and characters suspend disbelief re: Kathleen McGwire looking a lot like Diane Russell.

I know it's a stretch, but it could be doppelganger like on CSI a couple of weeks ago.
