NFL Championship games

Wow!

Its halftime of the second game and nothing is going today the way most people expected.

The Steelers were bad on special teams and it looks like the Pats took full advantage of that. Of course the Pats defense also stepped up and Bledsoe is on the door of redemption. I wonder who will start next week.

And of course the Rams were an even bigger favorite going into their game and they're trailing at the half. (Lombardi) What the hell is going on around here? (/lombardi)

Yeah I don't know if the Rams offense can play any worse and have them still be able to win games.

Thank god the Patriots won. Whew.

That's it? I hate to hop on the blow-out bandwagon, but the only way the Pats keeps it close is if the Rams don't show up to play. The Pats are a good team, but they've stumbled into this game. They won't get bailed out by a snow storm and a bad call, and Kurt Warner's hardly the choke machine that Kordell is.

Looks like I'll be watching the Super Bowl for the commercials.

Phil Simms had some decent commentary on how the Pats were able to force Kordell into making the hard throws, like the deep outs, and deep posts, by taking away all the easy options, like swing passes, and quick short passes to the tightend and slot receivers. Time and time again Kordell wasn't able to throw the passes into tight coverage, and 2 of them turned into easy interceptions. That's how Belichek designed his defense for this game.

The Rams had a tough time against the Pats a couple of months ago, and I think it'll be a tough game, but with the Ram playing on the Superdome turf, Marshall Faulk will be the deciding factor in the Super Bowl.

The Pats played a great game, but it seemed that their defense stemmed from a simple approach of shutting down the run and taking away the freebies. Kordell had plenty of options throughout the game, but he couldn't really get the job done. He started off taking what the defense was giving him, but as the game progressed, he tried to force the issue too much. And it didn't help that special teams gave up 14 points. It was obvious that Belicheck wanted to make Kordell beat them, and Kordell failed. I wouldn't try the same thing against Warner. It will help if they can close the gaps like they did against Bettis, but I think Warner's too experienced and comfortable in the pocket to get flustered the way Kordell did.

Warner's a better passer than Kordell can ever dream of being. Warner reminds me a lot of Dan Fouts (but has a team with a better defense than the old Chargers - I loved that offense).

Re: Steeler running game - Cowher went too long with Bettis.

Re: Pats defense - yep, make Kordell make the plays, and that meant stuffing the run and the easy stuff, while leaving Kordell to make the difficult throws, which he totally flunked.

Dan Fouts (Will Ferrell): Al, this is going to be one of those games ... where the team that scores the most points ... is probably going to win the game.

Dan Fouts (Will Ferrell): I think the quarterback is going to take the ball from the center ... place it in his throwing hand ... and loft it down the field to another player on his team as many times as possible. If he can do that, his team will have success today.

I'd agree, though didn't the Rams just beat the Patriots by 7 earlier this season? The Pats are just like the Eagles, good defense, mediocre offense. Beyond McNabb Philly was lacking. I'd favor the Rams too, but there's a slim hope of a game. Too bad the game is on turf for those Pats fans. Rams rule on turf.

I think the last game that the Pats lost was the one with the Ram 24-17 almost 7-9 weeks ago. The Ram head coach said it was one of their tougher games of the season.
