Beat the Geeks... what do you think?

What do you think? I'm watching it right now... looks like a fun show if you like pop culture.

Edit: It seems like the host is just phoning it in... no real charisma.

Fire bad!

Nice premise, mediocre execution.

The geeks either need to be funnier or less funny, so we love or hate them. Right now, they inspire me not to give a crap about them.

Also, the questions for the regular contestants are so incredibly easy, it breaks my heart. I'm sure it kills the geeks, too, given that they clearly do know a lot about their topics.

Word. I think anyone on here would kick butt on that show. Maybe not versus the geeks, but they'd at least blow the rest of the contestants out of the water.

Someone didn't know what The General Lee was?! And way to go, confusing "Mission to Mars" with "Ghosts of Mars." Yeah, they both sucked, but that's no excuse to get them confused.

Fire bad!

I FF until after the first contestant is knocked off. The show doesn't start until it's the Contestants vs the geeks.

Overall, it's like a morphed version of Win Ben Stiens Money.

I like it. I think it is pretty funny.

I just think it is interesting to try and get the Geek answers right... I hardly ever do.

I think that the concept of easy contestant question versus harder geek question is fundamentally flawed. They are trying to level the playing field but who is to say what a geeks level of knowledge is? I think that some geeks are probably much "geekier", or more knowledgeable on their particular subject (i.e. Star Trek geeks) than a different type of geek (i.e. Simpsons or Playboy geeks). Thus it is impossible to level the playing field with anything but the vaugest clue of accuracy.

Right, I saw that episode with the guest Playboy geek. He was on camera for maybe fifteen seconds and he still managed to look like a deviant.

Same with the Simpsons guy. I dunno, the resident Geeks all have a good way about them... but the Simpsons guy just seemed uncomfortable in his own skin.

I loved the show.. It was jsut amazing the crap the geeks knew.... But they came off a little fake when they were talking trash, and you could tell the lines were being fed to them.

I agree, i think the host is in a charisma-vortex. They need a jimmy kimmel type host. I wonder what adam corrola is doing?

I caught this the other morning (have no idea when it actually airs)... Holy Hell is it bad. First of all, in the one I saw the geeks talking smack was obviously contrived with writers feeding the lines. I know they do that on Weakest Link, but the geeks stunk at acting.

The other thing is, I totally answered every question, and I'm not a music geek. On the one I saw they held up a picture of the Coen Bros and the movie geek couldnt identify them? What the?... He said something like, "They never get photographed, and seeing a picture of them is like seeing a picture of Stanley Kubrick." 1) Anyone worth their salt as a movie fan can easily find hundreds of photos and interviews of the Coens- they are far from recluses, and 2) even the most half retarded movie fan knows what Stanley Kubrick looks like. If I were on the episode I saw, I'd have me a TiVo.

Ugh, throw it back in the trash and give Amy Sedaris another show.

Isn't the Star Trek geek the same kid from Trekkies? You know, the guy who built his own "Captain Pike chair"...?

Let me just say WORD to all you wrote.
I only missed one question throughout the entire show on the episode I watched. The questions are far too simple, the geeks and host are not interesting at all, and the contestants are ultra-maroons.

And double WORD to giving Amy Sedaris another show. She is brilliant, and Strangers with Candy is the only thing on that channel that could give South Park and The Daily show a run for their money.

Boring show. Boring host and contestants. The geeks are cool but not challenged enough.

I miss Ben Stein every night at 7:30.

How did they pick their geeks? There's a ton of people in this very forum that are more knowledgable than those guys.

Me, too, but don't worry - it is coming back sometime after Geeks finishes it's run. Nancy is being replaced by Jimmy Kimmel's cousin (Sal, I believe his name is) next season.

For now, while Geeks is on, I'll just watch Jeopardy! at 7:30, if I'm watching TV at that time.

Oh, man. Nepotism much? Hope he's funny. Nancy was nice, but she didn't have the same zing as Jimmy.

I think that the show has a lot of promise, but it needs some time to work out kinks.

That movie geek looks familar, I think he was at a local theater a few years ago when they were showing the Oscars and giving away prizes. I am almost sure that he was one of the hosts, I didn't like him then and I don't like him now.

Oh, I know for a fact I saw that movie geek on Win Ben Steins Money and he lost, yay!

Hey, don't knock Gabriel.

He's actually a really normal well-adjusted guy that got immortalized at that awkward in-between stage in a film about Trek fandom. I've talked to him numerous times online and he's a very cool guy who just happens to love Star Trek.

He may be a nice guy, but did you see him on the show? He spazzed like there was no tomorrow when he incorrectly answered Alan Dean Foster, an understandable mistake as the story really is Foster's, but he had "Beat me up" written all over his face. And had he bathed recently? Didn't look that way. His hair had little white pieces of something in it and looked glued to the side of his head. Star Trek fandom is filled with some of the most normal, well adjusted people in the world ... but this guy? He certainly did not make a good case for himself.
