Another fan of this show. I love the dialogue.

Best line last night:

Lorelai: "Two pies."
Luke: "Huh?"

I also loved the scene a few weeks back with Dean and Rory talking about what they were going to do that night and noting all the terrible movies that were out that had people doing rude things to cows. So instead they decide to stay home and watch the Holy Grail.

I agree that this show is DVD material. This show and Homicide are my two biggest TV wants (after Buffy comes out of course).

Anybody know the name of a song used in last night's episode, when Jess is standing in the middle of town, something about "hell is heaven in reverse" or something?

Gilmore Girls -- Series Discussion Thread

Ok, every week I come on the TV Talk forum hoping that someone has started a thread or resurrected a Gilmore Girls thread, but to no luck.

I know people are watching this show, or that people used to, so let's see if I can start a semi-official Gilmore Girls thread.

I just started watching this season, and sometimes wonder what some of the first-season references are, but have been able to figure out most of them (Rory & Tristan kissing storyline, etc).

So.. let's discuss!

btw: Alexis Bledel is HOT !

I think this is one of the best-written, best-acted shows currently on television. They manage to show teenage characters that are likable without being unnatural and there is a sense of whimsy to the show that I really enjoy.

This is easily one of the best TV shows out there. It is very natural but fully of quick witted dialogue that makes it very entertaining... not to mention that Loreli and Rory are babes! Anyway, a fine program and well worth watching... consistently good, which is great

MATT

what references do you wanna know about in regards to season 1??

One the consistently funny shows on TV nowadays, and I have no qualms at all about watching re-runs of "Gilmore Girls" either.

Rory and Tristan kissed? Dang. I missed that one.

pantala, if you want to start a episode-by-episode thread for "Gilmore Girls," feel free... just click on the ol' "New Thread" button! I will most likely participate. I make one every week for "Ed," if no one else does.

Rory good!

Rory and Dean broke up when Dean professed his love for Rory in a beat-up car that he was restoring for her, and when Rory froze up and couldn't return his affections, Dean decided to break off their 3 month relationship at the time.

Later in the week, Rory and Lane go to a party thrown by one of the brats from her new school, and Tristan was publicly humilated when her girlfriend, Summer, decided to break up with him in front of everyone. Lane is smitten with a Korean boy, Henry, and starts to dance the night away with him. This leaves Rory on her own, and she keeps to herself, starts reading her book. Later, Rory walks around, spots Tristan at the piano, looking a little despondent. They share some romantic battle wounds, and the next thing you know, they kiss each other very briefly, and then Rory runs out of the party, grabs Lane and goes home, while Lane is reaching out to Henry and tells him she had a nice time...

Too bad they wrote Tristan out, he was a PITA, but Rory and him at least had fun teasing each other.

Chad Michael Murray (Tristan) was on Dawson's Creek this season, but his character sort of got written out, so I don't know if he'll show up on Gilmore Girls this season (his dad sent him to military school in North Carolina in the last episode IIRC).

This is one of my favorite parts of the show, the sharp and quick humor.. the wit and humor somewhat reminds me of my other favorite show, Family Guy, although Lorelai and Rory are a bit more sophisticated than Peter Griffin.

I always have a ton of homework on Tuesday nights to do but put it off to turn on GG.. if I do miss the episode, they're always available elsewhere .. but I won't talk about that since I don't want this thread locked.

I love the dialogue on this show. So far I haven't missed an episode. (I rebeled against the Survior/Friends Ratings War last year) Any show that can reference at any given time Monty Python, Carrie, Casablanca, Charles Dickens, The Far Side, etc. as well as poke fun at Mariah Carry (I hear he controls the weather and wrote the screenplay to Glitter!) and comment on John Lennon's and Yoko Ono's love (They just got closer and closer as the years went by. At the end, they had the same face.) is all right in my book.

----

RORY: I like this song. It makes me gloomy.
LANE: Gloom is good.
RORY: Really gloomy.
LANE: Like Joy Division Gloomy? Nick Cave gloomy? Robert Smith gloomy?
RORY: Johnny Cash gloomy.
LANE: So kind of like a San Quentin-y, it's a long road home and my horse just got shot but I've still got my girl by my side gloomy?
RORY: You read my mind.
LANE: I'm deep in a Charlie Parker gloomy.
...(later in the conversation)...
LANE: Now I'm a Lou Reed gloomy.

Holy cow! I didn't know he was gone for good. Can you tell I've missed a few episodes? Thank you, TiVo, for ensuring that I will stay caught up from now on (and for recording every episode of Sports Night).

Fire bad!

Oddly enough both shows are produced by Daniel Palladino.

For real? I did not know this .. and it explains a lot! My friends all laugh at me whenever I compare the humor of the two shows (it just happened again over lunch today), but now I have something to back it up!

From what I've seen of Tristan (namely the episode "Run Away Little Boy" two weeks ago), I don't like him and I'm glad he's out!

(For the record, I don't like Dean either because I want Alexis Bledel to myself!)

Speaking of funny lines from the show, probably my favorite from the episodes I've seen is in "The Ins and Outs of Inns" when Rory is "translating" what Michel is saying. Absolutely hillarious!

Back off. Alexis Bledel is mine. We're both Texans... it's only fair.

Man, I must be getting really old b/c she looks way too young for me to even think about in that way. I always think of her from Lorelai's perspective - a daughter growing up and needing guidance sometimes.

Maybe that's the cool thing about the show - you youngin's have your hottie and we old folks have ours! Lauren Graham is HOT!

I guess I'm right in the middle... because I think Lauren Graham looks pretty darn good, too. For some reason, I'm more attracted to her this season as compared to seasons past.

Great show this week as usual. GG is so amazingly consistent in its presentation every week--I was looking forward to Tuesday all week (yeah, I have a boring life.. looking forward to GG is better than looking forward to writing papers ).

Rory teasing Lorelai about her father's new girlfriend is the kind of thing I love about the show. Chalk up Jess as another person I am not so fond of--anyone else think he's going to be the next Tristan? (kissy kissy) Rory is just too nice to everybody!

I know a guy that looks just like Jackson, so seeing him as the squire was hilarious.

Did anyone see that you could chat with Rory Gilmore? It's a bot, at RoryGilmore1008. Kinda interesting. Too bad it's not Alexis Bledel. It's kind of a primitive bot, too, but it's still interesting. I posted a transcript of our last conversation in the Other Forum.

Rory has probably got that "prefers bad boy" gene passed down from Lorelai.

So, what does everyone think of Jon Bon Jovi joining the cast of GG? Do you think Luke will get ultra-jealous?

...sorry, but isn't Bon Jovi joining the cast of Ally McBeal?...
