That '80s Show

Well we knew it was bound to happen and Fox just ran the promo tonight.

That '70s Show is great because its just a typical sitcom that just happens to take place in the '70s, its not necessarily about the '70s.

If they can pull off the same thing That '80s Show might do good too. If they try to copy '70s it won't work. I'll give it a chance though. I assume many people will considering the popularity of the '80s now with the '80s nights on radio and the all '80s stations and movies like wedding singer and all

so to clarify....is this the same series just moving forward in time to the 80's or is it totally new with new characters and everything set in the 80's?

I would think that That 70's Show would eventually lead into the 1980's, I mean it started in 1976 and it's still in 1977 I think.

That 70's Show is currently on 1979. You can tell this by the references within the show itself, as well as by the Wisconson license plate in the credits.

Their hang-out just got a Space Invaders, so I think that was '78?

Red Dog: Yeah, you're right it is 1978. Hey shouldn't the kids be out of high school by now? I mean it's not Arkansas. ;-)

I'd give this show a chance, but personally I'd rather see the 70's Show cast shift into the 80's - I love the chemistry between the actors. How could they top Kelso, Jackie, Hyde, Eric, Donna and Fez?!? Not to mention Red and Kitty.

but the characters would then be out of high school. i dont think the show follows a timeline. the first few shows used to show the date, but then they jumped forward with the star wars show

The concept of the 80's is just not as funny as the 70's...it just seems kinda sad. Things in the 80's are either funny on their own or can't really be made funny.

Granted, I was 6 by the time that the 80's ended, but I think that The Wedding Singer did a pretty good job of making fun of the 80's (granted, there's a major difference between a 90 minute movie, and an episodic sitcom) I'll give it a chance

They certainly don't.

I just hope that if That '80s Show flops, it doesn't bring That '70s Show down with it due to association.

I'll definitely give it a chance, but I don't see it having the dynamic that makes That '70s Show so great.

They are not planning on cancelling That 70's Show though, right?

Why would they start in 1977 and not 1971, in case the show took off they had more than a three year run?

You folks realize that a TV show can cover the time span of 3 years extended over the time span of 10 years in television. Look at the simpsons, bart and lisa havn't gotten out of the same grade they have been. sure they are cartoon characters but still.. a tv show can extend the whole time factor so that 70's show has way more then just 3 years to carry on its show.

as for that 80's show.. the thing doesn't look like it will last long

From the ads, the 80's show is shot differently. Looks more comedy/drama than sitcom like the 70's show. I'd give it a chance. They've got an Asian guy on this show.

I agree that they should transfer the current cast, however, I'm still going to give it a chance!

True, but it becomes a problem when your actors get to the point where they're in their mid-20's, but we're still supposed to believe they're high school kids. At least with animation, the characters always look the same.

I agree... this show looks pretty sucky. The 80s have already been spoofed in so many movies; I haven't seen anything in the commercials all that funny or original.

I'll watch it... I just hope they didn't sign a deal with Fox saying that if they canceled That 80's Show, they would stop That 70's Show...Kinda like X-files with the Lone Gunmen

Is it just my ears or did a character in the promo ask, "Hey, is my nose bleeding?" How can they get away with that? Unlike the mostly inoffensive weed smoking on That 70's Show, coke is a hardcore drug.
