I like how they tied in one of the official show websites into the show when Lex was surfing the net.

http://www2.warnerbros.com/web/small...torch/home.jsp

Exact same stuff Lex was looking at.

They might have broken a record by showing the Kryptonite in the first 30 seconds.

I changed the channel - someone tell me if it deviated from the formula. Did Clark find another new power?

If you can change the channel after only the first 30 seconds, then you don't get to know.

When you boil it down, this was a really disturbing episode.

After using kryptonite bits in "slim really fast" shake drinks, a fat girl gets really thin, but needs to suck the fat out of living bodies to maintain her "desired" weight, so she becomes this insatiable fat-sucking vampire. She "did" a deer and a high school wisecracker who wa mean to her and her fatness.

And the other story was Lana's birthday soiree that was put on by her aunt at the Luthor mansion. Whitney couldn't make it (try-out with a college team), so Clark volunteered his "escort" services, while trying to figure out what a perfect birthday gift for Lana would be. Whitney got her a 1st edition of a book that Lana wanted. Well, Clark stood up Lana at her birthday party because he had to save Pete Ross (who had a date with the fat-sucking vampire chick at the Lana party) from the chick.

So the party's over, and Lana is pretty pissed at Clark, but Clark figures out the perfect birthday present:

Spoiler:
Earlier Lana told Clark that when her parents were still alive, they took her to the drive-in for a movie which had Bugs Bunny cartoons at the beginning, and it was the lat time she felt really safe and comforted in the presence of her parent while sitting with them in the front seat - she must have been around 4 years old.

So Clark goes to Lana's place, throw pebbles at her window, convinces her to come down to see her birthday present. Clark set up a white sheet on the side of their barn, brought drinks and popcorn, and Clark set up a movie projector on the top of his truck, and played Bugs Bunny cartoons for Lana in a drive-in setup.

You could tell Lana really liked this birthday gift.

Didn't the old guy that returned to his youthful murdering self survive? I thought Clark told him that he would be watching him.

Anyway, another kryptonite bad guy (ok girl). Clark stood Lana up again to save someone and Lex continues to develop his interest in how the oddities in Smallville have occurred. Pretty much the same old thing, but I still enjoy the development of Lex's character. It is about the only thing they have been able to do right consistently. An episode with hardly an screen time for Whitney...thank you producers/writers...he can't act and is so stereotypical I can guess his next line almost all the time.

The fat sucking vamp girl was an obvious play on the eating disorder story line that is evident in every teenage show, so it was neither surprising (although original) nor all that disappointing.

I thought last night's episode was pretty good....despite the kryptonite-bad guy theme again.

When the girl hit the deer with her SUV, I was thinking to myself....dude, that'd be messed up if she ate the deer....and then when she walked out....and started getting.....closer.....closer....closer....I was like....damn! That's nasty! But it was kinda cool....

As for Lana's birthday present....I thought the choice of background music was very appropriate and awesome (Enrique Iglesias' "Hero"). I love that song.

Oh yeah, BTW, the kryptonite Jenny Craig girl didn't die in this episode.....

I was reminded of the part in the Harry Potter book/movie when Voldemort is sucking the blood out of the dead unicorn . . kinda creepy.

But anyway, I thought last night's episode was decent. I would like to start seeing a reoccuring bad guy appear but oh well. This series is fine as it is right now too. And there's nothing like cartoons for your birthday gift

Possibly...he did kind of hint at that....until he told Lana that he heard about the try out from her aunt.

I'm still waiting for Lex to try to hit on Lana...I mean, I've been expecting it for the past few shows where he's had any contact with her....I wonder if he'll eventually try to go after her....

That would the be most logical conclusion to make during Lex and Lana's conversation on the patio. Lex is a playah.

Don't be a playah hater. If Lex is a player, how come he didn't make a move on our cute, adorable Lana yet?

Lex is a little bit older than Lana or Clark, he appears to be around 22 years old. I think he was 10 when the meteors hit Smallville, and that was 12 years ago. Lana and Clark are around 16-17 years old. Plus Lana is better situated for Lex to use as Clark's wishful love interest (bait), rather than as a serious girlfriend for himself.

When are all of you people going to just accept that this is going to apparently be a kryptonite-villain-of-the-week show? The constant complaining about "Oh great, another kryptonite villain" is like watching Three's Company and saying, "Oh great, another misunderstanding". That's the formula. Accept it or move on. Either way...stop complaining.

Also, that Smallville Ledger website is awesome. Loads of articles relating to the week's episode, plus lots o' other stuff. Check out this classified ad:
