Buffy Question for the Brits [possible spoilers]

Okay, here's my question. In the season two finale Becoming 2, Angelus has Giles and is torturing him. Giles tells him he has to perform the ritual in a tutu and then I believe he calls him a name. To me, it sounded like Billick or Pillick.

If a Brit can clue me into what he actually said and what it means, I'd really apprecaite it. I think I'm going to ask Joss to start providing a glossary.

It's Pillock. It just means "idiot" or whatever.

Thanks! I guess I'm going to have to spend a few months over there or something so I can get the language key down. Man some of these translations are rough.

Yeah...

I'm not sure if it's exact origin or anything, but I do know it's interchangabile with idiot for the most part.

They normally do a very good job with the translations. Though I do think Welsey should say "maths" instead of "math"

I'm in Canada now. Was born here actually, but I've been around the place. My parents are from England and Ireland (born and raised) so I've lived there.

Gotta say, love the accents. Don't know why, but always thought they sounded cool. My boyfriend wants to go over there to check out the dark beer. He's a Guiness fan.

Since this is my thread and I can take it off track, I can honestly say, I can complain about Voyager for a bit, but not hours because I did stop watching the show around second or third season and most of it I've been trying to block out of my brain.

I found it pathetic that the best developed character was the hologram. Let me start with that. Your thoughts?

Well, I didn't mind the second and third seasons. I liked the second a fair bit actually. A nice arc over half the episodes ending in a cliff hanger. Season 3 was not as nice quality... but it was still decent.

It's the forth when it really went downhill. It became totally a "lets try to make a profit" show. Meaning they tried to fit the lowest common denominator. That doesn't mean there wasn't a good episode or two every so often, but it mostly was terrible. I really only watched because it was on at 3am which was just after DS9, and I do like to keep track of what's going on in trek, even when it's so bad, it did occur at the same time as DS9, so I might as well watch the damn thing... I stopped watching at around season 6 though, it just got so bad. I then watched the final episode and it was a total joke. I don't know what to say if you haven't seen it...

I mean, Ron Moore, vetren TNG and DS9 writer went over to Voyager for two episodes, and promptly quit because he thought the show was terrible. Almost all of the original writers from TNG went to DS9. When DS9 ended they wouldn't go to Voyager (except Moore who quit later.)

If that doesn't say something I don't know what does.

Ron Moore is a friend and I talked to him towards the end of DS9 and I asked him what he was going to do. He said he was going to the delta quadrent for a while. He wasn't happy. As to why he left, I think it was more than what you stated, but we never really talked about it. I hope he gets to do Dragonriders of Pern at some point.

The occassional good ep here and there was not enough to keep me watching. The characters were really very uninspiring.

I wish that Michelle Forbes would have went to DS9 as Ro. That would have been a extremely interesting character to follow. Of course, I thought she was on one of the weakest seasons on TNG (season 5) but she was one of my favorites for that fleeting moment She could have learned some 'Buffy' moves even

Tell Ron that there's a ton of DS9 fans all over the net that er very happy with what he, Ira, Rene, Rob, and the rest of the writing staff did for DS9

He's also probably thought of as the best writer of all modern Treks.

DS9 normally wins best Trek on the bigger Trek forums, with TNG and TOS close behind. I like those three all about equal.

(Of course, I don't know if you know him well, or even at all really, but just in case :P I normally never have respect for people I haven't met, but I really enjoyed what he's done for my favorite shows.)

And yeah, that wasn't the only thing, but from what I've read in his interviews he wasn't happy with how the show was made, and with Brannon Braga... though I can't remember details on that, if he said any. It was a great artical though and he hit the nail on the head with Voyager flaws.

Michelle Forbes would have been great in DS9. If I remember right, she turned it down, or was it TNG, because of a movie career.

Ron is a nice guy and definitely one of the best writers Trek ever had. Brannon is an arrogant, cocky little puppy that will probably never get a job outside of Trek. I could be mistaken, because Enterprise could do well, but he's very dislikable.

Yeah, Forbes turned it down from what I've read because she didn't want to be typecast. Well, where is she now??

I don't know if you know Ron Surma at all but he should at least be guilty of some of the casting flaws on Enterprise!

Yeah, the impression I get of Braga is he's an idiot. Instead of thinking "If I make a good show, I will make money" he thinks "I wonder how I can make this show appeal to as many people as possible so I can make money" and there's a big difference between the two. I enjoyed some of his TNG episodes, but that's when he had people who'd edit his work and tell him what's crap. He doesn't have anyone anymore. Even back then he'd do weird things on occasion like turn Data's cat into a female :P

Trek forums I used to visit were filled with so many anti-Braga sentiments...

Braga Ideas

By BizRodian

Braga Idea #95: Bill Nye (The Science Guy) guest stars as a scientist who might be able to get Voyager home using a Vinager and Baking Soda warp drive. But will Janeway break the prime directive to get the fuel?

Braga Idea #102: Redo Archer's Enterprise design. We care about the fans! (URL too: http://www.bizrodian.homestead.com/files/ent01.jpg)

Braga Idea #150: Three words - Neelix meets Dracula!

Braga Idea #163: Seven of Nine finds a skipping rope, gets in a swimsuit, and decides to jump rope on the bridge for the whole show.

Braga Idea #223: When the Wildman family looses it's dog on Christmas Eve, Seven of Nine goes on a search, and along the way, learns the true meaning of Christmas.

Braga Idea #226: Worf finds out that prune juice is NOT a warrior's drink, hunts down Guinan and shoves her hat right down her throat.
The Brannon Braga Writing Guide

By Spornan

Step 1: Allow other writers to develop some characters. Be sure to step in every once and a while and make sure that they don't develop them TOO much. Audiences don't like that drawn out sappy stuff.
Step 2: Write an episode where those character blow up! That'd be so cool! And kill off a few of them before hand! But then at the end, it turns out none of that ever happened! Neato-Keen!

Step 2 1/2: Be sure to pepper in lines in assorted scripts which completely destroy the illusion of continuity. For instance, blow up at least one shuttle a week, and then have a character explain that they are fully stocked with shuttlecrafts! Audiences don't care about continuity! They want to see things blow up!

Step 3: Attempt to fire weakest actor on show, but relent when they are voted good looking by a stupid teen magazine. Instead, fire the best actor on the show, and bring in a girl with big yam-yams. Proceed to boink her after a month or two. Give her some painted saran-wrap to wear, watch ratings go through the roof! (PS: Make her a borg, audiences can't get enough of them, and they are ALWAYS scary!)

Step 4: Write a cliffhanger Season Finale where the Captain is turned into a Borg! That's ALWAYS cool! Also, put ultra-special lasers---I mean phasers on the ship, so they can fight the Borg even more! Be sure to make things blow up! Audiences get very excited when things blow up, AND when the Captain is turned into a Borg!

Step 5: When in doubt, toss in a Doctor episode. When REALLY in doubt, toss in a Doctor-and-hot-Borg-Chick episode. When SUPER in Doubt, have a Doctor-and-hot-Borg-Chick-with-a-nude-scene episode.

Step 6: Avoid unnecessary characterization and development. Steer clear of characters that even the other writer's don't develop.

Step 7: Audiences don't know anything about romance. They want the old-chick to go out with the leading man, but that's gross! Instead, pair up the lead male character with the Hot-Borg-Chick you're boinking on the side. Maybe he'll shut up, and you'll score points with the Borg Chick! Don't worry about Timing, because Audiences are really into "love at first sight" stories.

Step 8: Character Development that cannot be avoided should be introduced suddenly, and without previous inclination. Only hobbies should be developed. Spin your patented "Wheel of Random Character Stories" in order to decide who should get the new trait. You can also decide who should be the "Star" of that weeks episode that way! Have fun with such zany combinations as: Chakotay loves anthropology inside a spatial anamoly, and Paris loves sailing on a crazy water planet! The possibilities are endless!

Step 9: Write a finale where we see old versions of the characters other people developed. Then go back to the "present" and change things so that it turns out none of that ever happened! Neato-Keen!

There you have it, an easy to read, step-by-step guide to writing the Brannon Braga way! You'll be making the big bucks and boinking the Borgs in no time! Good luck!
ect. ect. etc. :P

I haven't watched Enterprise. I think I've seen two episodes, I'll tune in every so often, but it just seems like a slightly better Voyager. "Voyager trying" heh. In a few years he'll get tired of it.

As for Ro, I thought she was cool. But I liked Kira too, so I think she's fine. Ds9 is my favorite Trek most likely, so I have to like her :P
