Carter becomes Fox's golden boy with X-Files.
Carter forces Millennium down Fox's throat.
Fox retaliates by not supporting the show, show loses following.
Carter counterattacks by forcing Harsh Realm down Fox's throat.
Fox decides not to support Harsh Realm (because it was suckekeke).
Carter writes line in X-Files ep Sein und Zeit "Hey, this is pretty good." A man while watching Harsh Realm on TV.
Carter (and fan demand) forces Lone Gunmen down Fox's throat.
Fan support and ratings slip for muddled and slipshod X-Files season 8, Fox stops supporting Lone Gunmen, show folds.
Carter retaliates with final atomic weapon: an even more poorly written season 9.

That's funny. FWIW, Millennium season 2 has some OUTSTANDING episodes, in particular, the Halloween, Christmas, and Chris McCandless ones. I would agree with you on the rest, though you forgot to add that for some reason as Millennium season 2 Fox decided to renew it despite the unrenewable season finale(!) and then Carter inflicted his worst season ever on us, Millennium season 3. Though season 7 of The X-Files was close. (Harsh Realm doesn't count because it was too short to be boring!)

I finally had a chance to watch my ReplayTV recording of this episode... (snore, snore)
[Chandler voice]Could that episode BE more uneventful?[/Chandler voice]
If you are going to alienate your core audience by losing major cast members and running the show's mythology into the ground, couldn't you at least put in some action? Or story? Or yucky monsters? Or hell, how about some sex or comedy?
The way it is now, X-Philes are leaving in droves and I can't picture anyone who isn't already a fan making it 10 minutes into the show... that was boring, dry, and amazingly plot-free.

Love Millenium and think that show was not handled well and could have been so much more.
Never saw Harsh Realm so I can't comment. It was off so fast, I never got around to watching my tapes and so, never did when it was cancelled.
Lone Gunmen - another show with lots of potential that just went nowhere fast. You can't make these guys virtually geniuses on the X-Files and then have them stupid on their own show. They didn't deal with that aspect very well.
Season opener didn't really wow me, but I'll check out a few more eps to see if it goes anywhere. If not, I'll stop watching. Plenty of other stuff to watch.
