Dish Network problems.
I just switched to Dish Network from Directv. All I did was buy a new receiver and re-align my DTV dish. Unfortunately, I cannot get my local stations with it(which I did order) unless the dish is aimed at a different satellite than the one from which I get the rest of my programming(the other 100+ channels). I looked on their website and saw that I may need "Dish 500" setup to be able to access my local channels. I don't know what that is. I currently have a single LNB if that makes a difference. Does anyone know what I will have to change to be able to pick up the channels I am currently not getting(short of going up on the roof and re-aiming the dish every time I want to watch my local networks)?

Dish Network programming comes from two Satellites located at 110 and 119. You will need a dual-LNB dish setup such as Dish 500. While a majority of programming is at 119, some programming and all of the local stations are at 110.

Dunno. Ask someone at http://www.dbsforums.com . Basically, one has to point to receive the 110 satellite, and one has to point to receive the 119 satellite.

I don't have an oval dish and i still have access to both satellites.
I think you just have to buy a 500 series dish. I had to have my installer come back out and provide me with access to a second satellite because some of the newer HBO channels are on a seperate satellite than the others.

The Dish Twin 500 (the LNB currently being packed with Dish 500) can also send the signal from BOTH 110 and 119 satellites to two tuners via its built-in switches - just run two lines straight from the LNB, one for each tuner.

No. The standard Directv 18" dish isn't big enough (Dish 500 dish = 20", and is round not oval) and doesn't have the required hardware for setting the skew (turns the dish slightly cockeyed). A Directv dual-output LNB also doesnt have the 2 seperate LNB elements needed to pick up both satellites; with a Dish 500 you are aiming at a point in between the 110 and 119 positions while the Directv LNB can only find 1 satellite position.

If you have more than one tuner, each dish will require a dual output LNB, and you will need a second SW21 for the line to the second tuner.
It is a bit more complicated, but a benefit of this setup is that you should get a slightly stronger signal from each dish than you would get from a Dish 500
