The Official I HATE FRIENDS thread
I hope it isn't just me, but I really hate everything about the show Friends: the characters are unfunny, the storylines are terrible, and it is unbelievable that it has lasted for so many years. Come on people...what's the point of watching this retarded show?

I thought the first season was brilliant, but I lost interest about a 1/4 the way through season 2 and haven't watched an episode since. Seems to be the same crappy writing every show...but it definitely has its die-hard fans.

I dunno, I like friends......but the sydnicated re-runs only. I'll watch those everyday, but I've seen like 5 episodes on its real time slot.

I lump it in with shows like Seinfeld and about anything TV Land shows these days. Can be absolutely hilarious in 5-10 spots, but otherwise drags. My favorite example is the bit on Seinfeld where Kramer drags out the set from some old TV show and interviews his friends. The coup de grace is Jack Hanna bringing animals on: "Where are the cameras?!"
I think more shows need to go to a 10-15 minute format. Just last night I enjoyed four funny episodes on Cartoon Network, instead of two mildly amusing ones.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Sealab 2021 (pioneering storytelling)
2 eps of Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Just when the joke starts to wear off, there on to the next one. This is why the SNL movies fail, they're used to 7 minute segments.

well .. friends
none of the guys i ever want to be
none of the girls i would ever want to date
i live in NYC, and know how fake the show feels
but dang .. it is funny ..
actually .. a rerun is often funnier than the current show

I too found the first season to be brilliant along with many seasons after that, but it's all just mindless rehash now. Sure I chuckle a bit when I watch and maybe laugh once or twice, but on the whole, it's no worth 30 minutes of my time. For mindless entertainment, it fits the bill, and that's why it's so highly rated. When people come home tired from work and just want sit and stare at the TV, 'Friends' comes in handy. It's not bad, but it doesn't challenge the viewer to do more than just stare for 30 minutes. For me, it's a waste of my time. For others, it may be exactly what they're looking for.

Sorry, but if it wasn't for FRIENDS and EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, I would have lost all faith in the sitcom format years ago. Admittedly, sometimes the writers go a little astray with the plots, and occasionally lose a handle on the characterizations (most notably in the terribly unfortunate softening of Chandler and the neuroticism-gone-haywire angle on Monica), but the delicious zaniness of the characters and utterly hilarity of the scripts insures that FRIENDS remains a force to be contended with...I'll be terribly blue when it leaves the air...

I watch a lot of shows that I don't particularly enjoy, partially because I'm obsessed with television, but mainly because it's difficult to get a grasp of a show with just one episode. I agree that you can't say you don't like a show until you've watched a number of episodes, which is precisely why I watch shows I don't like. I guess that sounds crazy, but I'd hate to miss out on the next SportsNight or the next Babylon 5 or the next Buffy, simply because I gave up on the show too early.

Oh, and did you have a problem at the clinic? I would think they wouldn't really want to talk about that stuff very much, but whatever!

I don't like the show, I never did. I've seen a couple episodes as one of my roommates is a big fan, she tivos it so I can't watch Smackdown. Everyone is too perfect to make the show worth watching imho.

I have no idea how this mess still draws viewers. Could they possibly find six more annoying actors? The only thing worse than "Friends" is a major motion picture that contains an actor from "Friends".....

But Matthew Perry's movies have been good.. Three to Tango, Whole Nine Yards, Fools Rush In.
And I did like Lisa Kudrow in Romy & Michelle.

No doubt that these are the same people flocking to see Corky Romano and still watching VHS tapes.....
Network TV is definitely "Joe-Sixpack" dominated.....

After the trip to London for Ross's second wedding, I think the show definitely took a nose dive. Starting with the Las Vegas episodes, with Ross's third wedding, the show has been completely unwatchable for me.

I find Friends to be too contrived and they work too hard for a laugh. I don't hate it but there are so many shows that are many times better. Watch "King of Queens" or "Will and Grace" instead. The writing and the actors are superb.

Oh, and by the way, Cox is actually good in the pre-Friends movie "The Opposite Sex and How to Live with Them". It's a bit obscure but worth finding. The more we watched it, the funnier we found it. It definitely grows on you!
