Tonight, on a very special "Will and Grace"

There's nothing I hate more than when sitcoms turn serious. Especially when it's a slapstick show like "Will and Grace".
I don't know what they were going for on tonight's
episode, but personally I think it failed miserably.
And the whole Will and Grace deciding to have
a baby storyline? This show not only jumped the
shark on that one. It catapulted it.

I lost track. Which gratuitous guest star was on tonight?

Oh no the next episode:

"Will and Grace do the Nasty" - Will decides he is not gay and he and Grace get freaky so they can have a child.

heh

The episode tonight was very boring, with the exception of all scenes that included Karen.

RobCA 05-10-02 12:01 AM

I seriously hope they rethink this baby idea. :thmbsdwn:
I really love this show, and I'd HATE to see them ruin it like this.

On a happier note, I'm so glad Jack finally realized he has no talent! :D

Karen's scenes were the best of the episode. (surprise!) ;) I wonder if she's going to divorce Stan. That could open up some interesting plot developments. It's a lot better than the ridiculous baby nonsense W & G have gotten themselves into.

No guest star tonight, but Cher is in next week's episode.

They did rerun the Matt Damon episode. One of the best this season, IMO.

Karen was amazing as always. I have one tiny complaint though. Why does she always do that little hiccup-y laugh at that end of a punchline? They might as well have a drummer over in the corner to hit the "ba-dum-pa" after each of her lines.

As to the the whole W&G have a baby together thing....Oh please no. I couldn't bear it. In addition to the fact that I just hate when shows add babies in general, a baby on this show would just be ludicrous. Every character on here is so self-involved and *that's* why it's funny. I beg the producers not to introduce a Cousin Oliver. For the love of God.

Is there any sitcoms where they never had one serious moment?

Seinfeld and Married...With Children is the only one I could think of.

A "moment" and the entire episode are two entirely different things. Save for Karen's bit. Which also got serious.

Hmmm, let's turn the gay lead straight.

[dripping with sarcasm] It's not like we couldn't see that one coming a mile away. [/dripping with sarcasm]

Did one of those ex-gay ministries infiltrate the writing staff this season?

Even IF Will and Grace have a child together, it doesn't mean they'd even do it the "conventional" way. And even if he slept with Grace for that purpose, it doesn't make him straight. But I agree -- BAAAAAAAAD idea. It's bad enough when they drag out Jack's son -- I'd like a child and baby-free show.

Also, anyone else expected a punchline involving the therapist's identity which never came?

Serious sitcom moments...

I know Roseanne and Newsradio(hartman's death) had a few off hand that I could think of. Of course jokes were sprinkled in here and there but for a situational comedy, both these shows had some serious episodes/moments.

mllefoo 05-10-02 08:42 PM

Do they mean special in a short bus kind of way?

TruGator 05-10-02 10:35 PM

It was funny when they made fun of florida state. :)

WNYXican, I agree with you. I said I hated it when sitcoms in general get too serious. Especially one's that are over the top like "Will and Grace". Sure, "Roseanne" was a sitcom (and one of my all-time favorites). But her show (and it's themes) always had a very serious tone throughout it's run, albeit a minor one. The way it portrayed the lower and middle class was spot on. And it did so from the beginning. It was very genuine.

"Will and Grace" (10/3)

In a word, awful. I mean, I thought the writing, directing AND acting on this episode was embarrassingly bad. And, enough with the celebrity cameos. Don't you love the way NBC promotes their shows? "...on a 'Will and Grace' that's sure to be a classic!" Or something like that. Yeah, it was a classic alright.

nightwing82 10-04-02 10:37 AM

since W&G tanked last night, perhaps that is why I thought Good Mornning Miami rocked? could be...

BDB 10-04-02 11:16 AM

It was okay, there was not much of anything going on. And I think the problem was Jack and Karen did not have any scenes together apart from the intro.

I did think Kevin Bacon was a good sport, I liked how he said that val worked with tom in top gun and that he worked with tom in ?? and that's a short one .. the six degrees thingy

Tom Banjo 10-04-02 11:47 AM

I personally curious as to whether or not it's more than coincidence that there was so many Kevin Bacon/Footloose references and Footloose comes out on DVD next week.

cooper2000 10-04-02 06:29 PM

True. The writing is lagging this season and it seems they are chalking up more guest stars than Friends which I also so thought was very unfunny last night.
I did like Kevin mocking himself though.
Karen and Jack are becoming chactures of themselves.

Next weeks looks like a super serious episode about Will and Grace having a baby. Oh Brother.

I completely agree. The bit where Kevin snaps his finger and the Footloose theme plays and he and Will are doing the footloose moves was funny though.

Patman 10-04-02 11:26 PM

Didn't Kevin clap his hands to get the Footloose tune playing? And then Jack clapped his hands to turn the tune off. But I loved seeing both Kevin and Will doing the Footloose dance, brings back memories from high school for me.

You're probably correct. I'm not great on details.

Ah, I miss the 80's too. The old high school days.
